One year ago when this project was first announced, this is what it was announced as:Until we get to see more of what's actually under the hood, not sold on it being an "RPG" like Fallout, or an RPG at all. Just having a three branch dialogue tree doesn't make it one. Probably going to get it regardless though, since I'm not against another Borderlands.
Studio Partner: Obsidian Entertainment
Game: Unannounced RPG
The role-playing veterans at Obsidian are using their Private Division partnership to reunite original Fallout creators Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky for a new game set in a new universe.
"It was the opportunity to work with Tim on a new IP that we were creating from scratch again, because we did it on Fallout and Arcanum and those were great experiences and I just missed doing that, says Boyarsky, who most recently worked on Diablo III for Blizzard. "I missed working on single-player, in-depth RPGs with a lot of choice, consequence, and reactivity. I like making other types of games, but there is something special about the kind of games we started with Fallout that really appeals to us and speaks to us creatively."
The duo plans to reveal more about the project at a later date, but Cain says "If people have liked our previous RPGs they're going to like this one in terms of how we make reactive worlds and especially our style of humor."
Whats this about mods?
I would say more like rip starfieldRIP Cyberpunk
The real masters of the RPG are back making AAA games
High frakking five on the praise for BioWare's best villain. :3
I wouldn't assume this will be easy to mod.
After first ME and DAO, the rest were barely RPGs. Some were good games (ME2) but overall, Obsidian got better at dialogue/skills/etc... vs late Bioware.Bioware:
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate 2
KOTOR
Jade Empire
Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age 2
Mass Effect 3
Dragon Age 3
All real RPGs (sort of). But yeah, it's totally impossible to think Obsidian is making a non RPG, especially when they aren't the only force behind it now.
The production values look great for a 'AA' game, but I do wonder how the budget will impact the scope of the game.
So which is it?
Pretty sure many are going to still want a new RPG a few years after both of these have been out. It just needs to not be Fallout 76 in space.
*Vomits* Very disappointing...oh well...
I mean, it looks a better - visually - than Fallout 4, and that was definitely a AAA game in - sorta, let's not get into it - the same genre.
Yeah, that I can agree with. I hope the Borderlands-like, in-your-face humor will not be the main vibe from the final product and it's mostly there for promotional purpose.but this... I don't know, kitsch? Yeah. Kitsch is the word for it, I guess.
the intentional cheekiness of sorts, it's never really my scene
I've had enough of your nonsense"You're powerful free with that tounge of yours."
What...? That's not a proper sentence.
