I see EthanBot is making a mess on twitter this morning, or best I can gleam from the stray tweets and retweets I see from Phil and Greg.

Yknow, after looking at Ethan's tweeties, I think I've come to the conclusion that he actually doesn't believe what he says, because he flip flops so much, I can't buy his arguments anymore. Maybe I'm missing something crucial, but it sure does appear that if he likes a game, he makes their "sins" as accepted.

Someone refresh my memory, but is LA Noire so old that it even predates Mike on the show?

Nope. I'm pretty sure we did a Spoiled in 60 Minutes episode on LA Noire.

First!
Shall we get into a conversation about how Yoshi's Island is really fun and that it doesn't matter where it ranks among Mario games? No, Ok.

I wonder if Ethan still cares about completing the Vita collection now. I don't think he's talked about a Vita game since the Switch came out.

I like Ethan, but I honestly cannot wrap my mind around wanting a complete library of games on any system. At least 50% will be awful, so why waste the time and money? Who cares if those games get lost in the void?

Also, having never played LA Noire, was it really that awful?

It's great up until the arson section.

Then it falls off the rails hard.

It was interesting for the time, but I think there's a reason why no one bothered using the technology for face capture again and why no one bothered making a sequel either.

I did this with the Dreamcast and while I love the DC, it was a mistake.

CJ, please, I beg you, don't ditch the piano music at the end of the show. I understand changing the artwork, the theme, and even stopping the looping of it at the end of the show like you used to do, but don't cut it entirely. :(

By far the two parts of the last podcast where

1. Greg flatout saying he didn't want to hear whatever fanboy bullshit Ethan had to spout about doom switch
2. Phil baiting the lootbox talk

I hope the show doesn't shy away from talking about all the controversy going around with loot boxes/GaaS and some of the recent news. It does gets annoying when the hosts repeat the same points or throw the same jabs and the discussion goes in circle but the show should still cover the current news

I give you guys props for covering this topic though, the show has been at the forefront of the discussion about loot boxes/gambling/regulation and I think some of the points Ethan has been bringing up are important, it's nice that he was never shut down and that you all had legit debate about the issue.

If we do talk about any aspect of this I'd prefer to focus more on EA's bizarre blunders with the situation - really bad messaging/explanation of a complicated system, changing the values from the review event to the final release, and doing a price cut but zeroing out any goodwill it may have brought by changing another parameter in the game.

I don't want to re-debate the existence of loot box systems in this or other premium games, whether it's pay to win and isn't that bad, or the question of whether it is or isn't gambling, etc. - those are questions the market will decide (spoiler: they did already, see: Overwatch, Ultimate Team, etc.).

Star Wars is strange because it's their BioWare system of lootboxes applied to a competitive game - a gacha that provides gameplay items instead of cosmetic items.
The idea of having a gacha fund maps like in Overwatch is a good one and one that I can get behind, since it's how Japanese games thrive. But most Japanese gachage also isn't competitive (yes, there are leaderboards, but you are usually just playing against the game itself, not other players).

Communicate this to your hosts too :P

I'd like to hear more from the aspect of how to successfully run that shit, and how all of you except Ethan would have structured it.

Surprised Ethan never played Rocket League. Thought he would've tried it with his kid. (I dunno how old his kid is)

Great episode and discussion, interesting to hear you guys' feedback from a game dev perspective (I wasn't aware of this 'mock review' process that developers have).

It's gonna sound odd because I started listening to the show because of the jokes and banter but a lot of the points that were made in this episode are things that Ethan brings up but he is sometimes ridiculed and it kind of kills the discussion and prevents it from taking that next step like it did during this last episode.

With the Battlefront backlash, I am really curious to see where the industry will be in 3-4 years with the "pay-to-win" trend. Maybe it works best with mobile users because that audience is more 'casual' than people who buy dedicated gaming machines.

Its def. funny how Ethan was always the one pushing for regulation in the era only to get shut down because of his other more extend viewpoints - but at the end of the day he is still right. We saw what happened when these type of issues are being discussed in the public and are treated as gambling and predatory ..there will be a push back and some laws will have to be implemented to have some sort of guidelines for those type of transactions

Japan has the biggest mobile/gacha market and even they have guidelines devs have to follow if they wanna have a piece of that gacha money. So thats the least that can be expected for full price console games with such mechanics.

and also this of course. Good job.
You guys did a great job this week with just two people.

CJ has always been great about letting every host express their thoughts honestly, while ensuring that no voice over-powers another.

I've never felt shut down... though I appreciate that some listeners feel like I've been ahead of the curve on the loot box controversy.

CJ has ensured that P1P has given listeners a range of perspectives on this and other issues, which I appreciate. I thought last week's discussion was terrific. Exactly the right tone, with useful insights shared. I wish I could have been there. I'll be back this week!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

It's too bad about Rime it seems like the devs rushed the port to get it in for the holidays. It might have been better for them to wait since there are a lot of options out on Switch this holiday.

Phil always has at least one comment per episode that makes me literally laugh out loud to myself like an idiot....Today was "I don't think we should set the mocking aside"...or something like that. It was pretty good anyway. Kudos Phil.

Ethan used the past tense when referring to his job at the VR place in the last episode. I wonder what he's up to now.

I can't tell if Phil is actually playing something he can't talk about or if he's parodying other podcasts. Didn't he leave the industry? Don't let it suck you back in!! Maybe he's on the consulting gravy train like Jeff Green.

I enjoyed Ethan's Aliens jab at himself this week :)

Yeah, I work for the Pokémon Company International these days. One of the stipulations of me continuing to be on the podcast when I got the job was that I can't talk about Pokémon on the show.

But yes, I've been playing a ton of Ultra Sun!

Really would have pegged you as an Ultra Moon player.

I feel I must deliberate intently on this development, all assumptions are starting prove unclear.
