Where do you guys say the series took the ultimate downhill turn? Currently rewatching (finally have all of S1-13 minus 2 episodes), and there's clearly a drop in quality in season 9, but I'm currently on season 10 and there are still high high, despite the overall quality lowering.
At what point do we enter modern era/not-good Simpsons?
edit: I know the popular opinion is Season 9 being the beginning of the end. I'm just curious how much further you guys put up with.
Let's ask the Uber Arbiter what he has to say.*waves to Nerdkiller *
Is the new season any good so far? I tried jumping into last season but couldn't get past the first two episodes.
I wouldn't say that so much. Nelson was pretty much trotted out here as a love triangle plot device for Tim Long's miscast celebrity guest fodder du jour. He acted completely out-of-character - and, while sympathetic, continues to come off as a bad fit for Lisa. I think the writer's room has more or less settled on Milhouse while the Nelson thing gets its gas pedal pumped repeatedly as the simmering torch that both he and Lisa always wonder about but never follow through on.I heard they did another episode where Nelson was the jealous love triangle character for Lisa again. The writers room seems very split on whether they like Milhouse or Nelson more in this role.
I wouldn't even say that myself. I'm literally tracking episodes in the Season 29 OT based on their consensus NoHomers rankings. So it's the entire Simpsons enthusiast fan community that is doing the curating here. That said, my own personal rankings more or less mirror the ones served up here outside of having Springfield Splendor up a spot ahead of Al Jean's "Barthood w/ Lisa" future episode. I actually think the more interesting take away from that ep is that it more or less locks in when and why Homer gives up drinking for good as he noted in Holidays of Future Passed.Maybe the key to modern Simpsons is to let UberTag be the expert curator.
I doubt very much that tonight's ep will wind up in that illustrious company but I'd love to be proven wrong on that assumption.1. Gone Boy (S29E9 / XABF02) | Writer = John Frink | Director = Rob Oliver | Showrunner = Al Jean
NoHomers Consensus Score = 3.97 out of 5
IMDB Rating = 7.2 out of 10
2. Mr. Lisa's Opus (S29E8 / XABF01) | Writer & Showrunner = Al Jean | Director = Steven Dean Moore
NoHomers Consensus Score = 3.79 out of 5
IMDB Rating = 6.8 out of 10
3. Springfield Splendor (S29E2 / WABF22) | Writers = Tim Long & Miranda Thompson | Director = Matthew Faughnan | Showrunner = Matt Selman
NoHomers Consensus Score = 3.62 out of 5
IMDB Rating = 6.4 out of 10
what are your favorite jokes that are not super known/remembered by everyone?
for example I love the rehearsal scene in the barbershop episode where Jasper sings "Theme From A Summer Place" which is originally an instrumental piece, so he just sings the title over and over again... cracks me up every time.
Great line from an otherwise garbage episode in a mid-teens season...what are your favorite jokes that are not super known/remembered by everyone?

'Snot my photo.
Haha, that's it! I had a feeling it was at Bart! I could picture the pan, and the guy's voice almost perfectly, but couldn't remember the line or situation at all.
Is this what you're looking for? (It's from Bart's Girlfriend, of course.)
I'd probably tell you to contact John Swartzwelder, but he's fairly reclusive, so your best bet might be Bill Oakley, who showran that episode.when Marge wants her personalized license plate how do you spell the names offered to her? I always thought Mitsy and Nitsy, but Frinkiac says Mitzi and Nitzi... I googled, but the internet seems undecided on the matter.

Yeah I still like season 9 as a whole (there's lot of holdover episodes from season 8 that keep it in line, including the much-maligned Principal and the Pauper) but Scully taking over is a pretty fair marker.A lot of the more hardcore fans seem to argue around season 9-11, or whenever Mike Scully took over.
Glad they didn't go with this, it's a lousy ending. So, uhhh, wait...how come I've never seen this before?

Is this even an extra on the boxset?
Grimey's ol' rant about how they can seem to get by is actually starting to ring true this time. He's not wrong about that. Reality changes even if the Simpsons timeline keeps floating right along posturing this as a plausible scenario. Good thing the Simpsons have been the benefactors of great fortune over the years to afford them this now unrealistically lavish lifestyle.
Jims has uploaded his latest Simpsons Mysteries video... tackling the classic conundrum of who is Rod and who is Todd Flanders.
Reposting from the Season 30 thread
So I never actually watched this series. Even as a kid when we had access to channels that showed US stuff like Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, I never cared for Simpsons as a kid because I didn't like the artstyle :P
I recently started going through it, watching eps. at my own pace, and it has been a great ride. LOTS of great humor and lovable moments.
Among my fav. episodes are 'Lisa's Substitute', 'Homer the Heretic', and 'Lisa's First Word'. Off the top of my head.
This scene slayed me
Anyways I'm going through Season 5 and the casino episode had a scene from Rainman, and Homer yelling out when Dustin's character does felt really...off.
