They don't care about him as a person. They care that he, unlike Dubya, is following through with the advancement of their evil agenda. That's the benchmark.

I think many don't even know all the bad things surrounding him.

These people live in a fantasy world in every sense of their lives.

Give an evangelical a fish, and he'll eat for a day.

Give an evangelical a fishing rod, and he'll eat for a year.

Give an evangelical a tax cut and he'll forget most of the ten commandments and vote for your morally bankrupt party and its leader.

Just like Jesus would do.

Evangelicals are a cult, plain and simple. Notice their template smiles and blank stares when they engage you in conversation. It's creepy as hell.

They plainly don't care about his values, just that he'll advocate for their values. They've got their justifications all mapped out: he's either a perfect embodiment of their moral values and principles, or he's a flawed champion redeeming himself through their beliefs.

With people like this it was never about Jesus or his teachings, it's always been about what makes them feel good / what they agree with.

For lovers
But he's anti-abortion so it's OK. Can't let women have the right to choose.

Nobody is ever good enough for people on the left.

Anybody is good enough for the people on the right, so long that person will pander to their own interests and politics.

Thinking about this always worries me.

I wish liberals were as good at ignoring an individual candidate's personal flaws in favor of strategic voting to further their agenda.

The Land
It's going to be the best to watch that approval continue to rise as Trump's illicit activity is exposed (which is barely just getting started).

On the upside

Evangelicals' fervent support of Trump is not universally shared by a crucial, and rapidly evaporating, subset of the white evangelicals—their children—who are leaving the faith in droves over its anti-LGBT and anti-science positions.

Only 35 percent of white evangelicals are under the age of 50, compared with 54 percent of the population, according to the PRRI. And they are bleeding youth: Only 8 percent of white evangelicals are under the age of 30, compared with 21 percent of the American population.

"There is a complex set of factors behind the exodus of younger Americans from white evangelical Protestant churches over the last decade," Jones, author of The End of White Christian America, told Newsweek.

Many white evangelical churches have staked out positions—not just on same-sex marriage and abortion but on climate change, evolution, and other issues—that are at odds with the attitudes of younger Americans, the PRRI polls find. "These hard line stances have set up a culture clash that leaves many young people feeling out of touch with the institution and ultimately walking out the door as a result," Jones said. "Part of the reason white Evangelicals have been losing numbers over the last decade is not because of their support for the kind of rhetoric they have branded themselves with. It really is around young people and the strong anti-gay stance."

The vast majority of evangelicals are pretty ugly on the inside, and "winning" has given them the confidence to wear that ugliness on their sleeves.
With people like this it was never about Jesus or his teachings, it's always been about what makes them feel good / what they agree with.
Dominating others, basically.

Evangelicals care only about a few things. They're basically unrepentant, selfish, children that believe saying a few magic words clears the slate from their terrible behavior forever.

The Evangelicals that support Trump are the Franklin Graham variety... The ones that have moved as far away from old Christian teachings as possible, yet stay just close enough to keep that sweet, sweet tax exempt status.

Was watching the video, was waiting for the "we are all sinners" line, to deflect rebuke or criticism. Lol they don't even read the book.

They only care about abortion. You have to be born, but you're on your own after that.

Ironically, abortion is in Enoch, but I believe western theologian schools reject that script.

There was a good article about this in The Atlantic.

https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/04/the-last-temptation/554066/

He is seen as the only one that can implement policies that uphold conservative values. The country is moving away from their values too quickly.
The thing is what has he done?

His ban against transgender servicemen was blocked.

The wall isn't being built.

Israel needs to be destroyed not Syria.

Heck they didn't establish that embassy in Jerusalem.

Why is he going up when all he did was talk big and try a few things but failed publicly.

His only success is the tax reduction which wasn't a thing that concerns them no differently from other groups.

Isn't it strange how quickly people can abandon their "principles" for tribalism, and showing their true self?

Evangelicals have never had morals, they are a stain on the U.S.

If they had their way this country would be a Christian version of Afghanistan.

Same way it's always worked in history: give lip service to religious people and they'll support you. It's very easy.

Evangelicals literally scare me. Kinda crazy growing up Catholic and fearing Satan as a kid. But at least I reached the age of reason, and and now I fear those who don't.

Ah yes, good ol' "I'll ask God for forgiveness if I ever actually do something wrong" Trump, Mister "Two Corinthians", and the classic "even the Pope isn't safe from the counter-punches."

A true evangelical. Forget that "turn the other cheek" stuff. A true evangelical is all about ""You've got to hit 'em back five times harder than they ever thought possible."

Just like Jesus taught, surely.

Religious types, they'll never give up the story, any story..and as things get worse, they cling tighter and tighter to their story...their stories are all they have.
