Mod Edit: https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/21/17888162/telltale-games-layoffs-the-walking-dead
Telltale Games, creators of episodic adventure games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and Batman: The Enemy Within, laid off a large number of its staff today. The company will retain a small team of around 25.

Original Story:
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/...ead_developer_Telltale_Games_closing_down.php

Just twitter reports so far, nothing confirmed by the studio

Seems like there are some murmurings going about. But it's certainly come out of nowhere. :O

I suppose why it's kind of shocking is because of all the games and contracts they announced and were supposedly working on and all the IP they had gotten. But I guess maybe they weren't actually profitable?

Update1:
The Verge saying Mass Layoffs and only 25 employees remain
I checked this again, and they were at 400 before their previous layoffs, and went down to 310 in that layoffs, so around 285 people laid off: https://www.pcgamer.com/telltale-games-lays-off-nearly-a-quarter-of-its-staff/

Seriously? Man I always had an issue with their awful engine but it always seemed like they were raking in the dough.

NYC
Uh what???

I thought they were making bank and expanding if anything. They get huge IP licenses and are constantly putting out games.

Feel bad for the employees.

I get that they weren't making a lot of money, and had a ton of staff, but I'm surprised they actually burned so much despite existing contracts that they couldn't continue.

Going out of business without ever experiencing a flop is seriously impressive mis-management.

Wow. That's insane considering it seemed like they had a new project weekly

What the hell... they have done a bunch of games that sold well, and don't tell me that they were expensive to develop, 20 games on the same engine...

My 13 year old daughter is going to be heartbroken. Telltale is by far her favorite developer.

If that's the case someone severely mismanaged them after the success of TWD.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
