i dont understand your problem.... seeing something with your own eyes, experiencing the game yourself is totally different than watching a video of it on youtube.

Blurring isnt just caused by the low res tho
Perhaps I'm just in the minority here in have done enough research into something as high profile as this that I'm paying £50 to not be surprised at how it looks and performs.

The internet is stupid, and I personally feel stupid for wasting my breath trying to articulate these thoughts.

It looks great on my led tv 46".
The fact that the switch struggles with open world games (according to tech people) makes it even more a miracle that it looks like this.
Imo the switch is once again punching above its weight.
My only complain are some textures (armor etc) which look better in skyrim imo. But that could be an art thing

But I just fail to see what the benefit in stating the obvious is?

"I bought a red cup that was advertised as being red, was shown in pictures being red, and was described in detail by professional 'cup' outlets as being red. I am now sat at home absolutely fuming that the cup is red."

We know what the Switch hardware is capable of. The developers showed footage throughout development as to what the game looks like docked and portable. Sites like Digital Foundry and GameXplain have pulled it apart technically to show it at its best and worst. Anecdotal evidence here, given the overwhelming information already out there, seems a total waste of time to me.
They're not fuming though. They're posting a message on a forum, in a relevant thread about the game. This constant attempt to paint people with criticism as being overly-emotional shows how mundane it is. You have to portray them as someone raging to validate this need for you to come in and protect the game from criticism. Since "the user posted something negative about the game" doesn't really work.

People are posting their impressions of the game, you don't have to see a benefit. Go enjoy the game!

Which again, seems crazy considering the exact pixel resolutions have been widely circulated for quite some time now.

Which is why I said that some of the vague "it looks incredible" posts could be a little bit misleading. Not saying it's wrong or anyone's fault but it might be way some people expected more.

Looking at screenshots of cutscenes on a phone is pretty far off what the general gameplay looks like in person too.

General question, are the expansions standalone experiences? Like I can't start the expansions and then use the experience I gained in the main campaign?

Did anyone see this?

Someone managed to get the graphics settings over to Switch and with a few adjustments it looks quite a lot better.

Yes, it's been circulating around the forum. I won't hack my Switch (yet; I will if a more powerful model releases) but I hope that the devs will include toggles on the AA and possibly the sharpening filter (though I won't use the latter one).
I already find that the game looks great on my monitor, but I really don't mind some jaggies if it means an overall sharper image.

The game is already being discounted around here in multiple places. Maybe I'll grab it for novelty's sake if it continues to plummet. (I've already played the game on PC).

I'm absolutely happy with the quality *shrug*. I'm playing it in handheld only but honestly, for a handheld I don't expect it to be super good (and I never thought Witcher III looked that great in the first place <- played it on PS4 when it came out). Tbf I also found Borderlands 2 on Vita to be playable and actually finished it on Vita (but that one I noticed the issues, they just didn't bug me. I'm not really noticing Witcher running badly on Switch).

I think it's pretty fucking amazing that they put it on Switch and it runs like it does (as I said, wasn't impressed with graphics on the PS4 but it's still amazing they managed to put it on a handheld... even if it is a powerful handheld that's also trying to be a weak console).

I'd guess that you're mobile a lot more than you are stationary? Or perhaps there were other games on PC/PS4 that were grabbing your attention at the time.

Nonetheless, enjoy it. Witcher 3 is a fantastic game and replaying it recently has me so amped for Cyberpunk next year.

Can I set a marker on the map and have it give me a path on the mini map? It does it for quests but I want the mini map to show me a path, or at least the general direction. My mini map doesn't show it until you are close. I don't want full Skyrim icon overload but at least the custom makers would be helpful. I'm checking the areas around the first area, before I take on the Griffin.

Edit: sure, you can give your impressions of the visual quality of the game. But as a new player, I'm following this thread to see other's impressions, interesting findings, cool things and it's clogging up the thread to read the 4000th person who discovered the game's visuals are not to their liking.

Maybe we can make that the official title. 'yes, well if your eyes are bleeding, go to a fucking doctor, we don't care.'

Yeah, removing AA makes a world of difference going by those videos. If they patch that in I might bite, because right now it looks a bit too rough for me.

After seeing that it's possible for the game to look better and run a bit after I'm hoping we'll see a patch. Even though I've already double dipped before I may go for a third round if patched and price reduced.

So youtube videos and screenshots of the game aren't representative of the actual quality when played in person?

It looks got to me on videos and pictures. TW3 is my GOAT and how i know myself i'll be buying it just out of curiosity.

Bit the bullet. Played it on pc when it released so even though I wanted it (pc doesn't get used since having a child) I was quite reluctant due to the blur as I only play docked.

Been playing it all afternoon and though it is blurry it is just about acceptable and after a while you get used to it. I also played about with motion smoothing on the TV to see if it helps and it actually makes it look much better. There is artifacting but the low iq masks it enough not to be noticeable and the game is so janky I don't really notice the lag at all.

So I'm pretty happy with it overall. Do wish some of the blurryness could be reduced a bit more but it's such an engrossing game it becomes a non issue.

Only problem is wanting to play it all the time but can't nowadays so will take an age to finish!

While I'm happy overall, seeing that there's hidden settings to remove the blur I just wish they'd include them instead of having to hack your Switch.

Yeah I won't be doing any hacking but would be nice to simply have those options to mess around with. I don't see why not.

Yeah it's odd that they'd just hide them, I'd understand if some reduced performance dramatically, but having options to customise your experience to your liking should be available.

Please just make sure you look at some videos at pictures before you do we've had a couple people go buy it just because of the thread hype then come back 1 hour later hating on the game because its way too blurry for them

Other impossible-port games received image quality patches after release, perhaps this game will too at some point.
My stance on this game right now.

Anyways, back to gameplay: Potions do more healing than food? Potions make you OP? I can barely find the ingredients to craft potions, despite all the entrails I've collected.

I'm at a crossroads. I enjoy the slight bump up in difficulty in the harder ones, but hate that I can't heal while meditating. Having to go into menues constantly just to heal can be a drag and slow shit down. I don't find myself needing to heal much in battle.

I'm torn on lowering the difficulty just so I can heal on meditation.

Potions are better and faster sources of health, yes. But spamming them takes a toll on your alcohol reserves so when you know you will be just roaming around without danger of lethal combat use food to heal over time instead of spamming healing pots. Especially when using pots do increase toxicity level which leads to its own penalties and may prevent use of pots when you need pop one or two most.

On Switch you can't add e.g. food items to quick use slots and pop few loafs of bread after done with combat?

You need to skill a certain perk in the combat skill tree in order to unlock iframes on your dodge. To get money just loot every weapon from enemies and sell them to merchants also don't buy swords or armor.
Yeah food is pretty terrible and slow for healing. Early on you should be able to make Swallow (healing) and thunderbolt (damage) pots.
Wait, so don't waste money buying swords/armor and upgrades? Also don't buy food? Feels like the in-game economy is pretty harsh...

As for portions, I have a hard time collecting ingredients. Guess I need to go out of my way to farm them, huh?

I'm not sure where to find these healing pots. I admit I need to invest in using potions more as I've never really utilized them. Been mostly counting on armor and weapon upgrades.

Purchasing gear is waste of money, 100%. You should be able to get by with world loot, also do witcher gear treasure hunts. Those sets are best gear in the game, but they are crafted gear so they come with hurdle of their own. Purchasing food is also waste as you can loot 99% of things that aren't nailed down without it being stealing so you should have more food than you can consume in decade pretty fast. On my Death March run I stopped looting food around 100h mark because I was getting more than consuming.

About getting ingredients for pots really comes down to how you play. For me I ran on foot most of the time so I picked herbs and snuffed out enemy packs regularly leading to natural and plentiful ingredient gain from them, combined with looting every barrel and cabinet for alcohol etc. bases.

If you don't have recipe for healing pot yet I would google recipe location to be honest. Purchasing them from those far and between vendors that sell them is super expensive.

this game looks GREAT most of the time... cause most of the time you're in conversations.
It looks serviceable the rest of the time. It's fine.

I'm really digging the lore already and It's only been an hour.

Put in 300 hours on the PC version. Tried the Switch version just to see how it would look, ended up getting addicted again.

This game is just incredible. I don't know how anyone could not like this.

This is how I play too. Pick up anything that isn't nailed down or in eye shot of a guard in a big city, pick every plant, kill every mob. Constant mats and stuff. I just now left White Orchard and I already have 3 bombs made, 4 potions (swallow being the first one I aimed for and of course the gimme that they do for you with Thunderbolt) and a bunch of other stuff to sell off when I get to a merchant that isn't going to give me 2 gold pieces for a gold ring haha.

It's really weird I had so much money because of my NG+ playthroughs on PC it's odd being back at the bottom but it never leaves ya

You can add food, but I never seem to have a ton of one or two items. I've been farming hares, sheep and wolves for raw meat.

The is one skill in the general tab that makes food OP as a health item. I think each food item lasts you 20 min

No most of the time you are in the world traveling from one place to another and fighting enemies and that is where it looks like a blurry mess in docked mode. Yes, it does look ALOT better in conversations, but the majority of gameplaying your are not in conversations...have you even played the game?

I am not shitting on the game, I think it is a miracle it is running on the Switch and I am enjoying it. Even though I watched videos/screen shots it still did not prepare me for how blurry the game is in gameplay. It is serviceable and definitely playable still and the world is still the world of Witcher 3.

Maybe they have done some loot / economy rebalancing (I hope they did...), but water should be suuuper plentiful while heals pretty much as well as other food items.

Also look into getting this perk, Gourmet.

I dd the quest with the naked witch I met in the bath and it was great. This game is great!

I'm only level 5, but already wish I had more slots to equip unlocked skills because there are so many I want. Sigh.

I literally finished The Witcher 3 yesterday on my PS4 Pro (got the best ending on the hardest difficulty). I started the New Game + to hunt every trophy but... this makes me feel like I want The Witcher portable.

How would you personally rate the 100% trophy completion difficulty compared to the other challenges in your PSN library? And approximately how long was the experience?

Thanks!

Hmmm... I played on Death March for 120 hours and only suffered against three or four bosses. In terms of difficulty, since the combat is so lame (rolling and striking resolves anything) I would rate 4/10.

But in terms of length... that may take around 150 hours. Could be more, could be less. The main problem here is the missing trophies and Gwent.

I wouldn´t buy anything except gwent cards, repair tools and maybe alchemy ingredients but you get a lot of them just by playing. Witcher gear is better than any sword or amor you can buy and they also look very good. Also the secondary form of quen replenishes health on each hit you take so running out on healing items isn´t really a problem.
