I've been asking for PS4 performance for several days now as my physical copy should be arriving next month, so I'm glad to see DF uploaded a video today about this game:

Summary:
  • Switch (docked): 1080p and runs between 30-40ish fps
  • Switch (undocked): 720p with similar and slightly better performance than docked mode in some cases
  • PS4/PS4 Pro: Both run at 1080p and while base sometimes runs in the 50s, Pro sticks to a locked 60 fps most of the time
  • PC: 4k and Ultrawide support. No mention of problems the PC version currently has, hopefully they work on that later

Yeesh, Switch runs pretty poorly. That's a shame. I'll grab on PSN, I don't need to play handheld

Glad I went with PS4 version then. Was very close to getting the switch version but I play 99% docked so. I wonder if my laptop can play higher than 1080p 60. I got my steam code but haven't installed it.

fairly disappointed by this Switch port, what's the point of going 1080p if it results in performance on par or worse than Wii U ? At least put a performance mode at 720p docked.
Seems like a really barebones port overall.

I mentioned this in the other thread but it's a shame they didn't at least play until Operation 002-A where the first Vorkken fight happens. Those boss fights are infamous for how hard they tanked the framerate on Wii U so it'd be a good point of comparison with at least one version.

Though it's understandable since they'd have to push past the first Operation on 4 different versions.

Honestly I would've taken a resolution hit if it meant a better performance on Switch. It's kinda baffling that it runs worse than Wii U in parts. The game more or less looks like a straight port rather than a remaster.

The game is probably Platinum's best but the port has been handled extremely poorly, from the KS to the final result.

They promised 1080p/60fps on Switch (it's still in their KS page for everyone to see) and I hope they have the decency to patch the game for a more stable performance.

I wonder why it's so unstable on Switch, wonder if a dynamic resolution would have been a better choice in hindsight?

Can't watch at moment. How does Switch version compare to the Wii U? Do they compare them. From comments it's sounding like it's worse which makes the kickstarter feel a little scammy. At least I got a digital code for the Steam version out of it.

I really need a gaming PC lol.

4k support sounds delicious.

I can't see myself ever playing this on anything other than Wii U, but I'm glad this game will be played by more people. It's one of the best action games around.

Probably, compromising resolution would've given much better results for sure even in handheld mode. I guess it would suck going below 720p in handheld mode given this is a "remaster" and the Wii U version runs at 720p, but I'm sure most people would've preferred a much more consistent framerate. Hopefully they consider patching the game.

I'm curious why they did this myself. Bayonetta ran at 720p on switch so you wouldn't think they'd be against such a tactic.

The PS4 Pro version has been much better than Wii U, which is good enough for me. Wish they would have went further with enhancements, but honestly it's good enough for me to just have the game on something I still have hooked up to the TV

How is this not 60fps on everything, even base PS4?!

Glad I got a free Steam copy. Guess my physical backer Switch copy will just be a shelf piece.

Wow, so the Switch version runs worse than the Wii U version? I think I'm actually going to cancel

I'm disappointed with the PC version. Doesn't look great and I wish it wasn't locked to 60 fps (well in my case 59).

First game I backed on KS and probably the last.

Resolution is actually pretty important in a game like this with the amount of detail one needs to keep track of during a battle. I'm finding myself having a much easier time playing the game on PC than I ever did on Wii U, thanks to being able to actually see what's going on and just where I need to be in order to respond. With the performance issues the Switch port has, it would have been beneficial to have a quality/performance toggle, but at the end of the day, bumping the resolution up is a good idea in practice for a game such as this.

Why the hell didn't they go for 720p on the Switch for a higher frame rate? The WiiU performed about the same at 720p, would've gladly stuck to that for a more stable 60fps...

glad I got a steam code with my switch backing lol

my laptop has been running this thing buttery smooth and I think I can bump up the graphic settings too but I'm waiting for the game to get a little more bonkers before trying that out. I was very impressed tbh, I wasn't even going to download the game because I just assumed my laptop couldn't handle it at a reasonable resolution.

Right. Bayonetta 1 and 2 stuck to 720p in both modes to prioritize the framerate in docked mode (and I think it's roughly 1:1 with the Wii U versions in portable mode then). Graphically I think only the shadows were cutback, but funny enough Vanquish on PS4 and XBO also had its shadows cutback, and those are far more powerful, though those went to 1080p on base consoles IIRC.

Platinum's games must not be shadow-friendly. :P FYI Platinum did Bayo 1 & 2 on Switch themselves, while Armature (formed by ex-Retro Studios leads) did the PS4 and XBO versions of Bayo 1 and Vanquish.

the whole way platinum did this "remaster" and presented it and the kickstarter and all of that, it leaves a very very bad taste in my mouth. i hope their next self-published title, whatever it is, is handled better.

No mention of the terrible frame pacing on PC? Video mentions AA on PC, but I didn't notice any for the short time I played. I'll have to check again...

Really underwelming remas... eh, port.

Oh damn, just thought to myself, they didn't even analyze the Vorken battles. Holy hell, the Switch will have so much trouble with that! :(

Yeah, I don't know if a lot of people in this thread remember how the Wii U version looked. 720p without AA with W101's shiny plastic look was an eyesore and actively hampered playability.
