On the topic of other things in this image, I really need to get that NMH CE for my Suda set. Weirdly, I don't recognize it. I've seen the Hopper's Edition for NTSC-J, hadn't seen this PAL CE(?) before.

Its a promo copy. A friend that worked for Gamestation (I think) way back when had a ton of them and gave it to me for free. While the screen tearing is a little annoying, its still NMH so its still a blast to play! Plus the optional boss rush mode with stuff from NMH2 is a pretty neat extra. On the topic of other things in this image, I really need to get that NMH CE for my Suda set. Have you seen some of the Heat actions? Kiryu is a stone-cold murderer in every fight he gets into.

I think I saw this suggested on twitter once, but I like it and it's my head-canon now too: The fights in Yakuza aren't really happening this way, we're seeing the fights as described by the people who get beat up in them, who are making Kiryu out to be a bigger badass than he really is, as a way of sidestepping the embarrassment of having lost a fist fight.
Nah, gotta disagree with that. Kiryu is as bigger badass as he's portrayed and its actually covered in game canon, that is if you play the PSP games - as in those its referenced that gangs/Yakuza family new recruits have to take on hazing which boils down to fighting, and inevitably getting their asses handled to them by Kiryu. He's not called "The Legendary Dragon of Dojima" for nothing!I think I saw this suggested on twitter once, but I like it and it's my head-canon now too: The fights in Yakuza aren't really happening this way, we're seeing the fights as described by the people who get beat up in them, who are making Kiryu out to be a bigger badass than he really is, as a way of sidestepping the embarrassment of having lost a fist fight.
Yes, 60fps. However, particularly with Yakuza 5, one big improvement i noticed comparing both the PS3 and PS4 versions that they actually went back and updated a lot of the textures with higher resolution ones, so a lot of work went into the game. Not sure if its the same with 3,4. Gotta take another look. What improvements do these have over the PS3 versions? Do they run at 60 fps?
3 benefits way more with the res bump and textures in my opinion. 5 still looks good on PS3, but there's definitely several textures in each city in 5 that looks way better than on the PS3, but I find 3 looks way better compared to the PS3 version just due to how damn low res the game was. Its a night and day difference in Okinawa especially.Yes, 60fps. Here's the free theme. For some reason my PS4 won't let me save a native recording so I apologise for the phone footage.
Seems to only be available to those who bought the collection on the PS Store, which is pretty awful (as usual) for those who got the physical version. I'm hoping it becomes available to all eventually.Sooooo how do I access this theme? Can't seem to find it in the store :(
Makes me excited to start it in a month or two just did kiwami 2 and 3 back to back 3 Thus far being my least favorite aside from the worst English dub known to man.The finale of Y4 is one of my favorite parts of the whole franchise. It's so darn good.
The order of the games is:Never touched Yakuza in my life. Where should I start. With 0 or Kiwami?
0 is probably the better starting point. Generally I recommend release order over chronological, but in this case Kiwami is more of a budget release and 0 is one of the best ones so 0 does a much better job selling the appeal of the series.Never touched Yakuza in my life. Where should I start. With 0 or Kiwami?
Y0 is the best starting point for most people. The alternative is if you dig older games you could start with Yakuza 1 on PS2.Never touched Yakuza in my life. Where should I start. With 0 or Kiwami?
I've played the remastered 3 and 4 so now I am ready to play 5.. But I also have Judgment to play so I am a bit torn which to play first. I imagine I'll want a break before starting the next game as it would be Yakuza overload to play back to back.
Shame, I cannot fathom why can't they include for physical version digital stuff. Not just for Yakuza, but for other games as well. Oh well...Seems to only be available to those who bought the collection on the PS Store, which is pretty awful (as usual) for those who got the physical version. Those times sound slightly off for me. 3 took me 100 hours to hit all side stories complete and get the mini game master trophy. But if you just want to do the main story/side story stuff then you could probably get it done in 40/50 hours. I guess it depends if those hostess stories are tied to Amon or not...So I guess I might as well ask, considering 3 & 4 are gonna last me until P5 Royal & FF7R, if I do most of the stuff (i.e. all the side stories and almost all the trophies but not 100% completion because oh god even I don't have the drive & patience for that), how long will those last me?
I'm seeing 3 can take up to like 70ish doing everything while 4 can reach 100. I think 5 can take 120+ & I was at 100 hours but still didn't do all the stuff like the casino, mahjong, etc. & just the main mini-game for each character (i.e. hunting, baseball, rhythm games), but got almost all the trophies aside from Extra Hard & Ultimate Battles.
With the way the studio sees Kiwami 1 and 2 as the canon versions of 1&2 now that's never happening :( Its such a shame as well, Host Kiryu will be condemned to the minds of those that got into the series on the PS2 ;( Its one of the reasons I keep my PS3 around, because I still love those original remasters of 1&2.Very curious to replay 3. I didn't like it a decade ago, but with a more complete game in terms of side content and a better translation I'm curious how I'll feel about it. From what I've seen the enemies constantly guarding is still an issue.
Now if we can just get that 1&2 HD Collection localized...
No, there's no need and no point. Remakes get hit with the budget stick so there will invariably be some corners cut - and that means 5 would get content cut somewhere down the line. And I'd be pissed off at that, because the ton of content in that game is part of the fun. Not to mention the dragon engine combat not being anywhere near as satisfying as 5's combat is, they'd probably mess up one of the best fights in the entire series with Kiryu's inferior DE based move set. Not thanks.Wait so are they not going to do a Yakuza Kiwami 3,4,5 after this?
I mean, 3 came years and years before 0, Kiwami 1 and 2 (which are most likely the ones you played), 6, etc.Starting 3, but the combat seems to be more sluggish than 0, 1, 2,, 6. etc. Is it just me? Either way, more Yakuza is always good.
3's combat shits all over 6's and Kiwami 2's and its not even close. Kiryu might be bad in the beginning of the game, but once you start leveling him up and get all the Komaki counters he's an infinitely more versatile version of himself than the Dragon Engine games - especially 6 because they took away several key moves of his and nerfed his tiger drop through the ground. Plus 3 is in 60FPS, and unless your playing on PC for Kiwami 2, the DE games are 30FPS and nowhere near as smooth. While those later games do some fun stuff (physics based hilarity and fighting in stores) I'll always attest to the older games having the superior combat when its all said and done - 5 especially has perhaps my favourite version of Kiryu in any Yakuza game, he's incredibly powerful with a load of badass heat moves (several that never return) and then Kiwami after that (better than 0s only because of the way you can fast change stances mid combo etc.)Starting 3, but the combat seems to be more sluggish than 0, 1, 2,, 6. etc. Is it just me? Either way, more Yakuza is always good.
