Oh when Kiryu hops on the bike and starts riding it?

BTW in 5 how often do you switch characters? Should I worry about doing everything with Kiryu right now or progress first to get a taste of everyone.
Characters swap round ever 4 chapters, and I think? you get point of no return prompts before the climatic battles (at least you do before the end of the game). You can either do everything in one run or just hit stuff up in premium adventure mode. You will gain the ability to switch between the guys at the end of the game and also share all your items so if you want you can leave stuff to later if you'd like. Keep in mind though:

Haruka doesn't get a shared item box, at least in story mode. I'm also unsure if your supposed to do all her stuff before the end of the story or can do it later in premium adventure mode (to be on the safe side I wrap everything up before the story ends with her)

Also, due to item box sharing - DO NOT pick up locker keys as Haruka, as that means you can't share the items obtained from said lockers with the guys. And since there are lots of modding items and Casino cheat items to be had, you really want to leave that stuff to Akiyama.

Lastly, I tended to stop doing side stuff after I hit the level cap (20) for each of the guys. This is because you limit break in the final chapter if you meat a certain trainer, then I loop back and do the rest of the content to get the EXP (its just easier to hit max level this way rather than wasting the XP, especially if your planning on doing the arena you'll want to be as close to max level there as possible)

Thanks for the heads up! Thankfully I didn't sell anything, I just put everything in my item box.
Also, completely forgot that Haruka also has a missable trophy. At one point you get an option to keep on going or to give up. DO NOT GIVE UP! If you do it locks away one song in Karaoke, which again makes the 100% completion list impossible to clear.

Straight numerical order in my opinion (0-6) is perfect.
I also believe in this, it's how it's going to release on PC i believe. Release order is for people who will persevere no matter what and don't need convincing to start the series anymore. Slightly less committed people and yet unsure about the series should start with quality and a good story that easily serves as a jumping on point for new people.

Thanks for that too! Although I would never give up in any game if there's a choice haha

An look at this lil critter! Its just happy to be here! I'm keeping it!

Rikiya was harder than I remembered, but I'm also dumb an playing on normal despite forever swearing to only play these games on easy. I like how the first two chapter bosses tear their shirts off. Why save that for endgame when ya can do it whenever?!
This was a fun post, kudos lol. That gif and the blowfish love.

put in a few hours of Y3. I played 3-4-5 in the past 2 years so it hasn't been too long.

the leap between Y3 and Y4 is freakin huge. like Assassin's Creed I to II big, Uncharted 1 to 2, etc.

they used to have recap movies for 1 and 2 included with Y3 i think (i checked in Y4 too) and didn't see them, you can still watch them on youtube though.

the running animation in Y3 looks pretty bad to me. i can't stop looking at it haha.

for yakuza 4 and 5, if you are getting a bit burned out, which is very possible, take a break when you switch characters. it's like a fresh start for the game when you switch characters so perfect time to take a break. i remember taking like a 2 month break during Y5 on a character switch.

I see the games are individually on PSN now so grabbed 3.

Beaten 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 with platinum expecting a big step back going into 3 quality wise (graphically, animations, mini games etc)

So the substory straight to the top - does that one take a long time to finish?

I looked up a guide, because I'm not particularly worried about spoiling the rest of it for myself (but also spoilers: there isn't really anything to spoil).

The substory ends when you train a single hostess up to #1. You can accomplish this before leaving chapter 3/4 if you wish. I'm not sure how many shifts I've done, but I think it's no more than 12-15 (I haven't unlocked all the outfit items and categories yet; I only just unlocked hair accessories and a second set of earrings, for example).

Right now my hostess is stuck at #2, but I don't think it'll be too much trouble to get to #1; it's pretty clearly a matter of getting the outfit right at this point, as her skills are already maxed and her motivation is constantly high/stress is constantly low, plus she's triggering the Super Service cutscenes every time I step out onto the floor.

So it's grindy, but honestly not as grindy as I feared; I've only spent seven hours total in the game and I definitely didn't spend all of it on the hostess minigame. I'm going to guess maybe an hour, no more than two? I could see getting into a rhythm of doing a normal substory, then doing a shift at the club, then doing a substory, then a shift, etc. etc. If you need/want to, you can do consecutive shifts at the club no problem, though if your hostess ends a shift fairly stressed out, there's a chance she won't show up next shift.

Now, if you're going for 100% completion, there's four other women you'll need to recruit and take to #1; THAT'S the part that sounds hella grindy, but at least by that point you'll have unlocked most if not all of the outfit items, so it's just a matter of improving her skills. You don't need to do more than one to mark the substory as completed, though.

12-15 is not too bad if I decide to do it like you suggested. So the rest of the accessories all come by doing the hostess stuff? I was checking a guide and I didn't have half of the stuff they were talking about.

Yep. Apparently every three shifts or so, you'll get new items. This doesn't kick in immediately, though; I suspect you have to reach a certain rank before you become eligible for new accessories.

Even with just the starting set, I found it pretty easy to make an outfit that was really good for three out of the four attributes. I'm not at my PS4 right now but I think it was this:

Sexy Dress
Ponytail hairdo
Simple earrings (the cylindrical ones with a pearl on the end, should be the first one in the list)
Heart necklace
Gorgeous nails
Heart ring (not strictly necessary)
Designer? watch (basically not the most basic watch but not the super-expensive glamorous one either, also not necessary)

Then follow the makeup tips as outlined by most guides. Basically, don't use the sparkly stuff or colour contacts, but put on everything else. I'm not sure if it actually matters which options you pick; I chose different options/colours from the one listed in the GameFAQs guide and it doesn't seem to hurt a ton if it does in fact matter.

That's good enough to get everything close to/at max besides Gorgeous, which makes it good enough to get you to #2 pretty quickly I think. If you do need to shift to Gorgeous there's enough stuff in the starting kit to get you close (though at the cost of other stuff, mainly Cute), but the first wave of additional accessories really helps there.

Oh, one additional thing: while it's tempting to stick with a single outfit once you've hit on a good combo, it is still worth changing up one or two small things every shift if your hostess needs a little motivation. Any outfit changes that change her stats at all will lead to a small motivation boost. Usually I'll just do something small like change the necklace or something. This is also a good reason to have two outfit combos you rely on, even if they do largely the same thing. But that's getting a bit into minmaxing territory that's probably not super necessary, especially as you get into the later stages of a hostess's run and you don't have to train her skills anymore.

USPS screwed me over with an Amazon order yet again. I got an email stating that the game couldn't be delivered despite the fact that the time when the person deemed it unable to be delivered, I was home and family members were in the living room. The lazy person probably didn't even bother ringing the doorbell to be buzzed in.

I requested an alternate redelivery date for today but I'm not holding my breath that happens. As such, I'm probably going to have to spend another hour on the phone waiting to speak to a USPS customer representative to get it sorted out. I don't think I'll be anything ordering from Amazon in the future if the couriers are going to be lazy. 😠

Yakuza 3's hard difficulty is all over the fucking place. Every single enemy keeps guarding, the chases are a chore... Did they tone the whole thing down after that episode or is my memory just flimsy? Throwing is definitely an unsafe move and I keep having trouble just hitting someone down on the floor or picking up certain objects.
Regarding the new localization, I certainly miss seeing the kanji introductions of enemy groups. Also that cabaret mini-game was just better off cut.

Yakuza 3 is the last game in the series to be have a difficult hard mode. All the games that came after are much easier.

Yeah I guess you're right, I don't recall having such trouble in Y4 and definitely not in Y5. You can most certainly feel a gap after Kenzan/3 and the subsequent PS3 episodes.
Yeah, Kenzan has some challenge too.
Although if I remember correctly, an exception to the post Y3 slope might be Ishin. I think that game can put out some decent challenge if you don't do side content.

Which guide ya using? I spent 2 hours on this thing last night using a gamefaqs guide an my hostess was all over the place bouncing up an down between 10th & 30th ranks, treating customers like crap, skipping work 3-4 days in a row. I know I've gotten REAL unlucky with training failing waaaay more often than not so I dunno if its that or the guide doing me wrong.

edit: oh gawd I gotta relearn pool all over again. nope, gonna stash that substory for much later on!

Thanks for this, that's way more in depth than the guide I had found on reddit. I might even max out all four girls now. It's kinda dumb that you can't see your stats until you fully dress up your girl. That would've made the mini game a lot easier to get through on your own.

Ishin is really only hard in the beginning on hard mode because of your small health bar (and no health drops in long fights on hard mode). A few level ups and your ok, and if you actually do any side content you'll be overpowered in no time (aside from the battle dungeon that is, where enemies deal insane damage!)

Likewise 0's first long fight in chapter 1 could be seen as challenging due to your low level but from chapter 2 up its a pushover. A damn fun pushover, but a pushover none the less.

I miss challenging Yakuza... 3 actually forces people to do something more than mash out Kiryu's default combo to win, and I personally loved that. But evidently by the brain dead nature of difficulty from 4 and up, I'm in the minority here. I heard chapter 12's boss in 7 was supposed to be hard, but again, if you do side stuff in that game, its anything but!

I've never failed a training session, that might be why I'm having more success. The only things I've failed were Free Time sessions (which I guess is still training but you get my meaning).

If I had to guess, the treating customers like crap part is due to high stress (I've seen this happen once when I let the stress get a little high). The skipping work bit is DEFINITELY due to high stress. As for training, you can't repeat the same lesson twice in a shift; doing so will automatically cause the second training session to fail. So my advice would be to let your hostess chill more via Free Time (with the caveat that you can't do this activity twice either), and mix up your training. Ideally, especially at the beginning, I think you should be aiming for Training 1 --> Free Time --> Training 2, where Training 1 and Training 2 are about different subjects.

Once you unlock more training options, Relax will also be your friend here. It reduces stress a lot more, at the cost of a bit of motivation. I've never seen motivation be a big problem and you get a free (but small) boost every time you tinker with your hostess's outfit, assuming her stats change as a result, so motivation isn't a huge concern for me.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much about trying to get skills up ASAP; better to have a few relaxed nights at lower skill, which will still bring in some useful income and hopefully keep your hostess less stressed, meaning you don't have to skip shifts because she decided not to show up.

I know, right? I feel like that's 100% intentional because otherwise it'd be too easy to pick the optimal outfit and never change it, but it's not like you couldn't do that anyways once you do enough trial and error (or look up a guide like most people will end up doing). The way 0 and Kiwami 2 handle this is WAY better.

Started Y3, and oh god those sound effects. The 'swoosh' sound when you quicken dialogue is doing my head in.

Does this continue to Y4 and Y5? I don't remember it being this bad in the Kiwamis. I can't see a 'text speed' option either.

Thanks, guess there is some hope!

There is plenty of hope. PC versions of the franchise typically aren't announced until a bit after the game is localized for consoles. Considering the collection just released it isn't even expected that they would have announced a PC version at this stage.

I suspect PC will get it late this year or early next year.

My copy finally arrived so I'm happy. While I'm tempted to dive into 3, I'm still doing some trophy hunting in Kiwami 2 so I won't burn myself out playing the series back to back.

Hold R1 while buttoning through text and it will immediately display each text box instead of doing it letter by letter.

Quick update: did one more shift at the club and that was enough to get my hostess to number one. I changed her outfit to line up as best I could with this guide. I didn't really touch the makeup, though most of my selections were already the same or close. Honestly, I think just changing her hairstyle was probably what did it, which makes me a little sad because it implies I need to make every hostess look exactly the same.

So yeah. 13-16 shifts, I think. Subsequent hostesses should go faster.

You mean Lau? He was the one I had the most difficulty getting a Tiger Drop strategy for due to his badass, yet hard to read movements. In the end I figured out that he'd always attack on getting up, so I threw him/grabbed and knocked him down then Tiger Drop'ed him as he attacked me after getting up. Super satisfying.

Now if you want a real nightmare situation, just try the VR fight against him where you
fight against 3x of him, in a time limit, limited health, no heat moves... I still don't recall how I managed that... of course you can just leave it until premium adventure mode when the game forces the difficulty down too normal for some reason, and then it becomes way easier.

Taxi Driving in 5 seems fun.

From my experience watching Yakuza 0 the main "minigame" (Real Estate for Kiryu) was the best way to quickly get exp and money, though in that game it was combined. Is that true here? Focusing on taxi missions will help me quickly get exp and money for the main plot fights?

I was referring to the earlier fight against an Officer and three minions who keep respawning. I totally forgot about the Tiger Drop - for some reason I thought it was a late game move, I don't know why, thanks for reminding me of it. Had to beat Lau without it, certainly was a grind.

XP is earned just through mini games (including Taxi stuff). You'll hit top rank (level 20) before long with each character. Just keep in mind you can limit break each character to 25 at the end of the game, so in my case once I hit level 20 I stopped doing side stuff to conserve the XP rewards until I limit broke. Plus late game fights give a pretty decent amount of XP all things considered.

Gambling is still the best source for money though. Getting cheat items like the Roulette Zero Jewel means you can make millions really quick. Saejjima's hunting is also a decent source of income earlier in the game.

Yeah, the Tiger Drop is a bizarrely early move to learn in 3 - makes earlier fights (Kanda especially) way more fun as you can parry anything he throws at you. Super fun. Its why I love 3's combat so much - if you level up Kiryu early, its a blast. But if you miss the Komaki missions, I bet its an entirely different story.

The best way to get money/exp in 0 was farming mr shakedown not real estate.

Finished Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2 last year, just bought Zero and the day one edition of the remasters in the past few days. Now I'm just need to buy 6 and 7 when it releases. Might juggle Bioshock and Yakuza, so I don't get burned out on one or the other. Can't wait to finally dive into 0.

Do you mean find or catching the Tuna? There's no actual trick here except trying to keep the show from getting empty or full. Remember to keep following the movement of the fish with your stick - that's the most important part, as it keeps from straining the line. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to reel the mf in.

Find. The only fish I catch at this moment was a parrotfish or something like that at 120cm.

Well for the side story you can just take the money given to you and buy a Tuna (I forget exactly where you purchase one from) but just buy the bait from the market (each bait has different areas of effectiveness, you need the one that highlights the last 50m or so when fishing) and just cast off as long as you have a fish icon in the 140-150m region (basically, if a fish icon is at the far right of the screen when casting off). Sometimes you get no bites, but sometimes you will get bites - just be aware that the prompts only appear for the briefest of seconds, so be ready to smash the X button.

So i just started yakuza 3, the only one in the serie i didn't do yet and...

is the fishing broken in the remaster? Like does 60 fps pose issue like some other games? I just can't manage to fish a single one after many tries... the lines break way too fast, so i press L1 to remove a bit of the pressure on the line, but then the fish goes way too far and i can't find a middle ground at all... the fish always goes away too far and when you try to reeel it in the line goes way too fast in the red so i don't gain any distance....

I just don't get it

No, fishing is fine in 3. I've cleared the mini game master trophy in the remaster, never had any problems myself. Can't comment on the issues your having, but I have managed to catch every fish fine so its definitely not broken.
