Honestly, why the hell cant people put their fucking phones down for 5 minutes?

Movie theaters, plays - it's fucking ridiculous and this guy bragging about it just just an asshole move.

Its rude to the performers most of all-but you're also causing a distraction to the other people in the theater. How can people consistently be this oblivious?

Half this forum defend whooping and yelling like toddlers in movies when they're excited because they cant help it.

I think it's a generational thing where people like to be noticed and recognised. Egoism rules.

There's a difference between live theater and excited cheers during sections of a film meant to elicit that type of reaction.

characterizing clapping during the "CLAP NOW" moments in modern blockbusters this way is something.

Comparing reacting to a movie with using a bright ass phone in a theatre.. really?

Dude seems like such a little brat. Jesse has the right of it - don't get your fucking phone out in a theatre when the actors are performing. The glow is unmissable from the stage - they will ALWAYS see you.

That tells you something interesting about movies vs theatre, based on who you're disrespecting by using your phone

Movie = participation with fellow audience
Theatre = participation with actors

They're both social gatherings, but theatre is more like playing.

I'm sorry that people ruined your Tyler Perry cinematic experience by having embarrassing human emotions during the film.

LOL like this is the same thing. It's culturally accepted in the US to clap and cheer during big blockbuster type movies. Literally not the same situation at all as the OP.

didn't even realize this is that "movie guy" and he doesn't get that? ha!

I'm just kidding though man. what do you mean by it's just a generational thing? Haven't people always wanted to be recognized?

JFC, what a fucking chud.

Do people actually put up with assholes constantly lighting up their phones, talking, or fucking clapping during a theater experience?

If you don't give a shit about your own experience, at least respect the people who paid just as much as you and expect to be able to actually see or hear the show. If that's too much I am just going to toss shit at you until you leave or make a further ass of yourself in public.

How the fuck is that even the same? Like, what!? Imagine equating feeling emotions through an artistic piece of media and showing those emotions with your own body and language to being on your screen during a play, being called out for it and tweeting about it. What!? Seriously... WHAT!?

Reminds me of the time years back when Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig broke character during a play because some jackass's phone kept going off during an emotional scene.

Wow, I'm surprised so many people are defending cheering, yelling and applauding in movie theaters. Is this an American thing?

Imagine being a teacher trying to deal with this shit.
I am a teacher and it fucking sucks, cant take the phone away because they slip it in their pocket, cant lay a hand on them because then they yell the R word, send them to office and they back in their seat in class after 5 minutes back to pick up where they left off on fortnite trying to get a chicken dinner

Both are distractions that will cause a reduction in your ability to enjoy the entertainment being presented. Just because you feel an emotion invoked by a piece of media doesn't mean that you're compelled to express it to everyone present. Self-control is a thing. Loud and obnoxious emoting during films might be part of why total box office ticket numbers are down while home entertainment options are soaring, because people may prefer to enjoy media in their own way without the imposition of accommodating others' need to not keep their reactions to themselves.

I saw Endgame with one of buds and dude is a loud mouth New Yorker. He had his phone out for a lil while with brightness way up. Some dude behind him told him to put his phone away and he got mad. I was like dude, you can't be doing that shit just leave if you can't keep your phone in your pocket.

My phone and watch are always on do not disturb when I'm at the theater. Don't even wanna have it on vibrate.

Does your district have explicit policies against short-range cellular jammers?

What's ironic is that these people who claim to be expressing an uncontrollable emotion when clapping or cheering will be the same people to complain about others bringing babies into the theatres. Absolute zero self-awareness.

If you don't think people laughed, cheered, and clapped during Star Wars in 1977, you're massively mistaken. Cheering and reacting during movies goes back the beginning of the goddamn medium. In blockbusters I'm specific it is largely the direct intent of the filmmakers.

It's wildly different from being the douche using your phone in a play.

I'm surprised they weren't escorted out of the theater. Plays are no joke when it comes to this shit.

Unfortunately, it can be more disruptive to kick people out for such behavior sometimes. If someone is in the middle of a row, an usher has to climb over 20+ people sometimes to tell the person to leave. And that's not counting if they refuse or get argumentative/confrontational with the usher.

We both know there's levels to that haha, it's impossible not to expect event films like Endgame to come with people
Exhibiting such emotion, it's part of the experience imo

Yeah, I totally get it. There are moments you are expected to gasp, scream, jump, holler...but they should be short and infrequent.

I was in a theater last month and some dude was puffing on a vape, checking his phone and got seriously upset when someone called the usher. Like, stood up all Stan Marsh-amazed that people didn't want to deal with his douchebaggery.

I don't get being like that at the theatres either but this is much worse. There's live actors in this situation
