Thinking of spending $1,200 for Herman Miller Embody chair

There's currently a 15% off sale, along with an additional 5% mother's day coupon.

What are other alternatives that I should consider before I spend $1,200 for Embody.

It'll cost $1160 after tax.

I got an ergonomic chair at work and it was life changing. If you work in it a lot, it’s probably worth it.

I'm trying to understand why a 1500 dollar chair has such a half-assed looking back.

That chair come with a hooker or something? I've been rocking the same $300 chair for the longest time and it's comfy as shit.

But hey, if you got the money go for it.

If you’re going to be spending a lot of hours in it on the daily then ya, go for it.

Steelcase makes chairs that are comparable to Herman Miller in price and design. Take a look at their site.

You might be able to find a show room with these chairs to demo. Around here there's a place called Office Designs, for instance. That's where I bought my Aeron.

So, let me get this straight.

You are thinking about spending $1200 on a chair, yet you have no idea how to ask someone out, what to wear to bed, what sheets you should have on your bed, what snacks you should have in your office drawer...you know what, fuck it.

I bought a second hand Herman Miller Aeron for $400 before.

It was okay but I honestly didn’t feel it was any better than my $60 chair from Office Depot. I actually liked the Office Depot chair more.

Ended up selling the Aeron on craiglist an year later for about the same as what I paid for it, so they hold value atleast.

Was definitely looking at these recently. I even had them send me some fabric swatches so I could see the colors. If you get it lmk how you like it.

I thought so at first too, if you look it up though it's got all these different spots where it apparently conforms to your back / spine.

There's a sale on Herman Miller chairs at Office Designs right now.

Via Slickdeals

Steelcase makes good office chairs as well, as an alternative. I believe it was the Leap?

I would buy a used Herman Miller Aeron or Steelcase Leap off craigslist LONG before I bought a brand new Embody. They regularly sell for $3-400 from closed down offices and whatnot.

I'm sitting in a $1k Steelcase chair (Gesture) wishing I bought a HM instead. Going somewhere to demo the chairs in person is good advice

I recently scored a Herman Miller Aeron chair half off and it's definitely way better than what I had before. If you're slouching a lot, having your butt fall asleep and getting back pain in your current chair, I recommend the Aeron. But you have to commit to having better posture.

I’ll be getting one of these but I spend 10 plus hours a day sitting. Definitely worth it. I say if you have the funds go for it

I must admit I don't know the reviews for that chair but I will say that if you were the person to spend $1,160 on a chair, why not spend $1,319 on the best one?

Surprised this isn't a Tabris thread.

This chair?!

Try those gaming PC chairs before you burn $1200.
You mean those dorky looking high-backed chairs made to look like their repurposed race car seats? They’re pretty garbage.

I’ve heard it’s not hard to find used Herman Miller chairs being sold off by companies going out of business or moving offices or whatever. I looked into about a year ago and there was a ton available for way under MSRP in the LA area. Might be worth looking into.

I have this chair for both work and home since 2012. Definitely worth the money, and my employer paid for the work one due to a doctor's note.

Consider saving attempts to impress message boards by having a marginal amount of disposable income. Buy the chair if you want it.
Some people just have different wants for money. I have a friend that spent 2000 on a highly detailed Iron Man costume.

My brother bought one years ago. He moved out of the country years ago, so I've used it for about 2+ years now.

Pros
+Adjustable everything.
+Comfortable, but in a different way. It's not a chair you'll fall asleep in nor is it super plush. It's not as breathable as other chairs. But despite all of that, it's still comfortable, and for long periods, your body doesn't tire out like it would in other chairs. It's a feeling you won't appreciate until you sit on other chairs.
+Subtle and superb back support. And butt support!
+Good warranty (12 years or something around that).
+Materials have stood up very well. Most chairs I've sat in start to see some wear after 3+ years. This one feels and looks in great shape still.

Cons
-I don't remember it being so squeaky when it was first bought. It's definitely noticeable though. We're not super heavy people (I'm 170-180lbs, brother was around 180-190lbs), so I guess it's just normal due to the contouring back support + some normal wear and tear. If you're doing any sound recording, just make sure to position your mic properly to get rid of the noises...
-As I mentioned, back support is good, but it's not a chair you'd want to lay back and rest in (no neck/head support).
-I love and hate the arm rests. It's a weird size. You can position it to your liking, but depending on the desk, the position doesn't feel perfect. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
-Big price tag. Worth it? Probably not unless you sit down in front of a computer for long amounts of time. If you got money to spend tho...
-So many crevices for dust to build up, if that might be a thing to worry about.

I have an Embody and it's well worth it. If you spend a considerable amount of time sitting at your desk I don't think the price is unreasonable at all especially for the warranty you get.

This is why the world is turning into shit. Spending 1200 in a chair in world where people starve to death.

Then again, is your money, do what you want though.

Test drive a few chairs if you can. When I got my chair, at a yard sale, I had been testing a few that day.

Can you afford this comfortably OP?

Like is this just a purchase as a status symbol or just cause it feels like a deal
If it's that, not crazy about a price like that

If your off living comfortable and can afford this easily then yes, you do you, relaxing comfortably and enjoying it is your prerogative

Its like my a uncle yelling he wants 4K OLED, can afford it to a point, but why, when most content he watches is like 720p
He doesn't even have a Blu-ray player for 1080p goodness
Like if that's you, it's iffy, but if my prior comment still stands before you, then go for it

The fact of the matter is these chairs don't do shit. Learn to sit properly and exercise. Sitting for long periods of time is bad no matter what chair you're in.
