There are many many people who are unapologetically racist. Some hide it behind “it’s just a joke lol!” Or so called “irony”Christ, just saw that Twitter post and I cannot even begin to wrap my head around why exactly people are siding with nonces like him. Like you cannot even argue that this isn't blatant racism at this point. Using the wrong shade? "Uh, it's just color theory!" Blatantly drawing the darkskinned character as white? "Haha that's just to get back at you smelly liberals for policing other peoples' art!" But then how can you possibly defend this shit? "Uh, it's just a monkey, what are you even complaining about?"
I want this drawing to haunt this guy for the rest of his life. Every job he applies for, whatever this fuck does, I hope this is front and center. Let him be rejected and scorned everywhere he goes. Until he's penniless, with nothing but a box on the side of a road to call home. The amount of artists getting ticked off about genuine concerns of whitewashing that they resort to doing shit like this is hilarious. Like the seethe on play here is fucking palpable, lmao. Bless Nintendo and Game Freak for getting a bunch of folks to show their asses.
Patreon porn money can be some really good money. There are folks who have started projects that had people shelling out thousands of dollars and then abandoned them running with the money.
Indeed. Sadly some people are too selfish to think about potential ethical ramifications. So they end up empowering the wrong people, like that racist idiot, to do stupid shit.
I usually roll my eyes when I see people on here say "Yikes" to some pretty subdued stuff, but I said "Yikes" outloud when I saw that. That's gross.
Honestly surprised it took this long to devolve into pure unadulterated racism instead of the "I'm not racist BUT" racism variety.
Yeah like homies out here like " way to ruin your chances of a job " chances is , he may make so much patreon and commission money he may not need one. You want actual consequences you gonna need to go after how he does business.
Yeeesh, what drives someone to draw that

This is the best comment on the whole thing tbh, it is good that people are talking about it even though some of the criticisms toward the original artist have been a bit harsh. It doesn't make anyone an SJW to be upset, though. That one person definitely shouldn't have downloaded the original art and changed the colors then not taken it down when the artist asked, that was disrespectful imoI find it kinda weird when people say things like this. Maybe because I'm black, but I've always thought about how fanart of black characters is whitewashed fairly often. Back in the mid-2000s, I wanted to make an avatar of Meredy from the game Tales of Eternia. But of course, it was tough for me to find suitable art of her that wasn't whitewashed, and that was very disappointing to me.
At the time, I wouldn't have even mentioned my disappointment to anyone, because I didn't really feel like anyone would care. But now, I'm very happy that more people are actually thinking and talking about these subjects. Except, suddenly other people are yelling "everyone's offended" and call people SJWs when it's brought up for some reason.
I mean, I'm not even offended by this particular fan art — I like it, I appreciate that they drew it, and I even go as far to understand how a well intentioned artist possessing less experience with (drawing) black people might run into trouble. And they didn't pull a Mr. Popo or a Chocolove McDonell or an Osaka Brown. But at the same time, it raises the age-old question on whitewashing dark skinned people, and it's just as worth talking about and exploring as it's always ever been.
