I just saw this pop up on my Facebook memories that I warned my friends against seeing this after subjecting myself to it. Can't believe it's been 4 years already (March 25, 2016). That review thread over at the old place was legendary and a thrill ride watching the numbers come in.

It's crazy how things for the DCEU have changed since then for better or worse. I saw that I did say Wonder Woman was the highlight of the movie and I think that still stands-and I also said that I had no faith in Justice League but that I had high hopes for Shazam (which I liked). Foolishly apparently I still held out hope that Suicide Squad was going to be good.

It's absolutely bonkers how this movie of all movies has refused to fade into nothingness. There's no better evidence of a divine power punishing us all for our sins than the fact that I've been hearing about this movie almost non stop for four years

We're going to hear about the "Snyder Cut" until the day we die.

It had potential but that end product was woof. This was probably one of the most anticipated movies ever. Just the idea of batman vs superman with that cast and then wonder woman in the mix. Fuck! But they botched it and now we will never see this line up of actors again as these characters in a single movie that's decent. Let's disregard justice league.

The only good thing about the movie will always be Affleck's take on the character. So much wasted potential...
The rest of the film was the movie version of a 2 and half hour facepalm.

I had been waiting my whole life to see Batman and Superman together on the big screen. Out of all the failings in BvS, it's still baffling how little the titular characters actually interact.

One of my biggest disappoints ever.

I enjoyed the debates around this movie more than the movie itself. What a beautiful mess of a movie.

I wish we could have seen Batman v. Superman in daylight. All the setpieces taking place in the dead of night was just meh.

I liked it. Even more the extended cut. Loved the premise of the movie and how would we indeed react if a Superman would appear under us.

Love this scene.

When you put the 2 iconic superheroes in a movie, and manage to make a shit movie it's gonna be talked about for years to come..
BvS isn't just bad it's among the worse comic book movies ever made, it's up there with Cat Woman..

God, don't remind me. I saw that on a matinee right before it was pulled out and I still felt ripped off. Just a bad time and nearly single-handedly killed my interest in that universe altogether. I really should've seen it coming after Man of Steel.

Thought it was really bad to be honest, I don't remember much other than that really nicely shot warehouse scene, you can't deny that was pretty good but it doesn't a film make.

The way the studio butchered the theatrical cut really opened my eyes at how important editing is.

The TC is mindblowingly bad, while the Ultimate Cut is, at the very least, interesting, and at most, the most transgressive, vanguardist comic book movie of all time.

Was it ill suited for a wide release? Absolutely. Is it a valuable piece of comic book art and study? You bet it is.

It's also gorgeous.

Just like comic books, this wasn't for everyone. Movie is fucking art. It's just so beautiful and weird to look at. Extended cut of course.

I really try to be selective with the movies that I watch, but I saw all the Snyder DC movies just because of my love for the characters and the comics. Good Lord, seriously, they're among the worst movies I've ever seen. Man of Steel is watchable, but BvS, Suicide Squad, and Justice League are beyond awful. Just disgraceful and incomprehensible, inexplicable writing and pacing. We would all be better off if we could wipe them and the memory of them from existence.

Why couldn't you post about this Batman/Superman crossover movie?
latest

It beats the Snyder movie in every way possible.

The Doomsday fight at the end is so ugly, visually and VFX wise.

Worst part of the movie until Wonder a woman arrives. Then it's passable. His design is attrocious, that's true. A zombified Zod would have been a much better choice.

But the message/artistic statement of the movie remains intact.

It is an impressively terrible movie which is better than being just normally terrible, so that is something.

The movie came and went, but my god the MESS that it left behind online before it's release was stuff of legend.

It's a truly hilarious movie. I love how Snyder fans on Twitter continue to post screen caps of Supes in a t pose talking about subtle filmmaking.

Such a shame this is what we got for the World's Finest, though. Those characters deserve so much better.

Oh to have a real Clark & Bruce on the big screen...

The extended cut is great, Snyder is the best comic book director that we will ever have and it's a shame (some) people can't see that.

the ultimate edition is even worse than the normal cut because it's just as bad but takes up more of your time

One day we are going to get a real Batman/Superman team up movie.
Hopefully where Batman isn't a murderous lunatic and Superman isn't a miserable bastard.

It's a smarter movie than its detractors will admit and a dumber movie than its defenders will admit. At the basest level, It's at least interesting.

I enjoyed it.

This is what I want. I look at the totality (no pun intended) of the DCAU and wish that had been realized on screen in live action. Instead we got this. We got a movie with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Fucking Luthor and a plot point about his urine in a jar. And then there are people here saying "Great movie!!" Frustrating as hell.

One of my faves. Theatrical cut is better than Ultimate Cut btw

TLJ has summarily replaced it in the public 'hated pop film' discourse. So it doesnt even have that legacy anymore

At least it's not as bad as justice league

that's the only good thing I can say about it. The plot makes no sense. Wonder Woman is literally just thrown it with no back story. The emails about other superpower people was stupid af. Lex Luther was neither imposing or intelligent. Everything is dark. And Marthaaaaaaaa.

Terrible fucking movie but the reactions around it gave me life. Unfortunately, it came at the cost of the DCEU. Member when people thought they could compete with the MCU if not surpass them?

Out of all the Snyder DC movies, this was probably the best one imo but it's still a huge mess. It's interesting at least but it was definitely ill-conceived.

One of the things not very well explained in the movie is why Lex hates Superman. When he was a child, he was abused by his father, he prayed to god...nothing happened until Lex took the matters into is own his own hands.

Superman comes along and people see him as a god figure, in his twisted mind, he says you're not god, 'I prayed to you and you did nothing...people shouldn't depend on gods' And sets on his eyes to destroy Superman.

Nah, it makes sense. Lex's childhood shaped his worldview. He does not believe a benevolent God can exists, he thus sees Superman as a fraud. He seeks to expose Superman for the fraud that he is and thus defeat him.

Superman cannot be all powerful and all good.

What a tremendous mistake this movie was. Not even that the idea of using Batman as a representation of humanity's angst towards Man of Steel's reckless destruction porn is inherently bad. I get it. That opening from Bruce's POV is extremely good. But everything is so poorly motivated, nonsensically structured, hilariously self-important, and flaccidly dramatic. We could've had a halfway decent DC cinematic universe right about now, with the Justice League hangin' out, etc.

Instead, we're in the universe where Zack Snyder's vision just shat all over any hopes of that happening again.
