THQ Nordic holding an AMA on... 8chan (UP: website linked to mass shootings in NZ) READ THREADMARKS

I’m going to repeat this endlessly until mods either respond or ban me.

Reverse your policy of allowing discussion of THQ Nordic games until literally everyone involved in the 8chan AMA is fired. No more half measures because people want to talk about Mah Vidya Games.
Agreed. If the discussions aren't banned, every thread for every game they publish should be full of people pointing out what a dispicable company they are.

i understand the sentiment, but i think it’s more important to allow the discussions and allowing the community to make sure this follows them every time they’re mentioned in the future.

this goes for pewdiepie, THQ Nordic, Kingdom Come/Varva, The Last Night etc

Don't feel too bad. It's a good thing that you made it a point to keep this story open, at the very least.
Just trying to do my part. I still can't fathom how THQ Nordic could do this. A fucking Google search is all it'd have took. As some say, maybe they did indeed know and that's even worse. :/

thank you for updating the title to whoever did it!
Aaand now I'm flashing back to all the people who told me that PewDiePie flirting with white supremacy wasn't a big deal because it's not like he's a real Nazi. I almost feel like this should be a separate thing. There are a bunch of gaming or gaming adjacent issues that have been talked about that haven't been taken seriously enough, and this highlights that.
oh but charities!!

Something needs to be done to leverage visible pressure against THQ N in an official capacity, even if it isn't banning discussion of their games (or as was more prominently discussed, banning OTs for their games, which serve as free publicity).

They could put a large disclaimer in each and every title/OP for a THQN-published game.

i think requiring a disclaimer in every OP would be best but not scalable.

They knew and ackknowlegded that already
Yeah, the "nasty stuff" would be a dead giveaway. :/

I think banning discussion will just allow people to eventually forget what THQ did. Rather keep the pressure on them.
Best idea; ban discussion of everything BUT this topic. Best of both worlds; no free publicity, and it will keep people informed about all this.

Damn it I don't want to derail but if I feel like this connection almost deserves a separate thread about the effects of letting this stuff go.

Like, remember when PewDiePie was fucking joking about his association with Nazis after a goddamn white supremacist riot:

Losing his deal with Disney is way too small of a punishment, and this is exactly why.

And THQ is trying has been trying to ride this off the same way.

Banning discussion might not be the best way to go ahead. Rather, remind anyone considering buying a THQ game that they're trash and don't deserve a penny. Hopefully all studios funded by them can detach their name ASAP and find new funding/distribution.

Well it's simple. Temporarily ban their games, only allow News Posts like this about this. Lift said ban if they actually do something worthwhile like firings and make amends. That won't make people forget, the fact that they signal boosted Child Porn, live streams of horrific massacres, white supremacy, etc should be front and center on them with threads like this.

Era should lead the pushback against this shit by holding THQ accountable. That 'website' should be so toxic that any association with it black lists you from the industry.
This is horrible. :( I actually hope major TV outlets mention THQ Nordic's boosting of the site as a way to get THQ Nordic shamed for their promotion of this hellhole. That will spread awareness of this fuck up like wildfire and it WILL force them to take action, surely, right?

Now I also feel bad for making that thread before about This War of Mine's retail release on Switch due to the presence of a new Download Required label. Granted Deep Silver/THQ Nordic are only involved with the retail release, but I made sure to put a warning of their involvement and opened the thread with a link to this thread to educate people, and also mentioned that I would not support them.
I'm going to propose that going well beyond banning discussion (which is also a fine threshold to meet), the forum should organize a letter-writing campaign.

Draw up emails to be sent to THQ Nordic, their commercial partners, gaming media, and mass media to - in the case of Nordic, that they sever ties with their staff who propagated this disgusting stunt; in the case of commercial partners, that they sever ties with Nordic; to gaming media, demand more attention be paid in enthusiast circles to decry Nordic's actions, their repercussions, and tell their readers why this shit is wrong; and to mass media, explain the situation with Nordic, link it to this massacre, and push it as a news story.

Banning Nordic from this site is fine, but we can go bigger. A few thousand people sending emails calling for the same thing is hard to fully ignore, especially if done so cordially and with strong language.

lol, the few times I did an official AMA at previous companies, I and the other participants got into a conference "war" room, where we had several people on their own devices upvoting the questions that the marketing team wanted to answer.

Before we wrote our responses, we had to submit them to marketing for approval.

The point I'm making here is that an AMA is fucking serious business; it's not just going on a web site and answering shit willy-nilly. There's an acknowledgement that it's an extension of marketing, so you treat is as serious as your marketing, which means you research the outlet, you research the interviewer (if there is one), and you exert total fucking control over the environment. There is absolutely zero chance that this guy had no clue what 8chan was.

Burn THQ Nordic to the fucking ground.

Ban all discussion on THQ Nordic games. No OTs, no trailers, no promotional material. Only this thread should remain until those responsible are fired and the greater company issues a statement. Apathy and inaction is precisely how we end up here, and we need to take a stand.

I agree with others, THQ should have no free publicity here until they clean out every person involved with this 8 chan stunt. This is the only subject that should be allowed that they are a part of. Fuck their video games.

So you're saying you wouldn't respond to images of crusaders shouting homophobic slurs, even if they were surrounded with images of nazis to lighten the blow?

I may despise what THQ did big time (and will still not let it go especially after tonight) but I think banning all discussion on games they publish is utterly stupid. Stuff like Ori, Giana, etc had nothing to do with THQN outside of them publishing the physical versions and not allowing people to talk about those games would just be dumb. Rather, condemn the publisher at every possible chance and make absolute sure to not let it go. But don't punish the devs who had nothing to do with their shit and clearly do not like what they did. I'm even willing to bet that the folks behind stuff THQ fully owns like Darksiders absolutely hate what THQ did and want nothing to do with it. Buy used or wait for firings if you need to, or just don't buy them at all, but don't ruin it for those who end up wanting to play something that they only publish at retail (and not for download) like Giana sisters on Switch.

I'm in agreement of at least temporarily banning all discussions of THQ Nordic except for this topic, or at least a new Sticky topic that explains everything in a precise manner. They knew exactly what they were doing with this AMA.

The Ban would be lifted when THQ cleans up their act and the community feels it's ok.

Just to be clear, this isn’t the THQ that released that tablet for Wii and was laughed at when they were announced as a developer partner for the 3DS at E3 2010, right?

fucking hell, this is not what I expected when I saw this got bumped. This is horrid
Seriously, what the fuck.

The users of 8chan are cheering on a shooting. This is precisely why the employees responsible for the AMA need to be fired. This wasn't just some fucking "oopsie". Until they are let go, I will not be buying any THQ Nordic products. I will not financially enrich a company where people who support this kind of website work and act as the official PR representatives of the organization.

Speaking of idiots in the industry...
Fucking hell. I knew Pachter was an idiot, but I didn't realize he was a scumbag too. Great "joke" asshole.

No, that company is gone (bankrupted, incidentally, by mountains of those shitty unsold tablets). This is a different company wearing its skin, like the modern "Atari". And like "Atari", they have acquired some of the rights to THQ's old catalog (like the Nickelodeon games).

Count me in for a ban on discussing their games at this point. THQ Nordic needs to go out of business. They already deserved it, but in light of recent events, the less eyes we put on them, the better.

THQ Nordic fucking did an AMA on a terrorist website and barely apologized for it. Fuck them and their games

They didn't even apologize for the content that was posted during the AMA. I'm in complete agreement with not giving them free advertisement

I think this is past the point of being reasonable to do something as little as ban talking about THQ Nordic shit until this is sorted out. The only discussion about them that should happen is calling them out on their bullshit

whatever the site decides to do i'm not sure how any solution is "ruin(ing) it for those who end up wanting to play something". no one stopping them from buying it if they want to.

Oh so even though I flat out made my stance on this very clear a few pages ago (being VERY against this whole thing and still pissed nobody seems to care about the situation due to how reactionary YTers ignored this but bitched about anthem for the thousandth time) because I actually worry about the developers who have zero to do with the shitty higherups and PR group, I'm somehow bad for not wanting the smaller companies THQ bought in their massive tidal wave of purchases to be blocked from discussion in case someone wants to enjoy whatever new indie game they just so happen to publish only at retail? (Ori is published by Microsoft digitally but by THQN physically, as one example) I'm pissed about the whole thing as well and THQ are fucking responsible for pandering to the hellhole group of 8chan and not backing down because of it.

I'm fucking pissed about this whole thing as well, believe me, but I think it's an absurd overreaction to just flat out mute any discussion remotely related to the entire chain of companies that THQN has bought in hordes. There's a reason why the mods haven't done what people are suggesting, and that's because it's absurd, even though I certainly won't buy anything with THQN's label on it after this, I'll try to buy games from some of the devs they work with like Black Forest directly from them, to support people who aren't shitheads. And I also think that every thread announcing a THQ game or mentioning it should have a very big reminder of this shitfest so people know what their morals are and to not have anything to do with them.

This also reenforces some points people have made about how people need to contact folks like Nick and such that they license stuff from ASAP, since I certainly don't think Nick wants to be associated with these awful people nor any other devs they may try to acquire or license stuff from, and they need to be aware of what they're responsible for

how about knock this "but the devs" shit out. There is pretty easy out for THQ if they want it
Of course THQ can easily fix this, I'm not denying that and just a few pages ago I mentioned how fucking stupid it is that they just are sitting around doing nothing but hoping it would blow over. but that doesn't mean the people who they bought and have zero involvement and are as pissed as all of us should be punished too and even followups with some devs that THQ have bought prove that they are equally pissed and uncertain about their future due to being associated with a bad company with awful values.

let’s get something straight. the only people punishing the devs are thq nordic.
10000000% agreed. They basically damaged and ruined the careers/reputation of tons of devs they bought under their wing, and that's another thing I've been pissed at since this whole thing broke out. That's just one of dozens of reasons why this whole disaster shouldn't be forgotten or let go of in any way shape or form.

Yet.

But, in the actual topic about the shooting it is very clear that any links to the shooters' manifesto, video, or even 8ch itself will be removed immediately due to all of those things supporting the views and actions of 8chan and its adherents.

Which frankly ought to include THQ Nordic. They disseminated links to 8chan, inextricably linked themselves to it. That makes those who did so, and by extension their company, a supporter of 8chan. And we ban those.

I didn't think I could be more for the ban than I already was, but here we fucking are
