They haven't said anything aside from a generalized "We did an AMA with 8chan sorry" because of course they're not going to claim any specific post from that mess, but considering how everything went down during the AMA and THQ's non reaction during the AMA it's pretty obvious all those posts were from actual THQ employees.

I'm with you on everything but that last part, I'm not familiar with 8chan but I'm assuming it's like 4chan and I'm operating off of that. I don't see any kind of trip code or anything next to his name, so I don't agree that it's pretty obviously THQ saying that. While admittedly that would make the story "juicier" for drama if they were, I don't see how that couldn't be some anon just shitposting and impersonating them.

They deserve to get lambasted over deciding to host there though, guy should lose his job, but I don't think the homophobic comments that were made can be linked back to them with 100% certainty.

ZzzzzzZzzzZzz...
Had they done this on 4chan that would have been borderline shady enough and not an intelligent decision. But yes, let's go to the place with the child pornography, doxxing, and "parody" snuff films (please don't ask, though I'll be entirely fair and say this was years ago).

I have no idea how this could be topped for Fail Of The Year unless, like, EA or Ubi does the same thing tomorrow?

Because it's something we hear every other week, and I don't know how many people actually enforce the boycotts they announce on the internet, but I don't see what's the point.
I like how you're literally more concerned about the idea of someone boycotting a company then the very well laid out reasons why someone would want to boycott in the first place.

Dear God, I swear you'll get apologists for anything. Gaming side was a fucking mistake.

It's like 2% of the people in this thread. Let's be fair. The vast majority of the gaming side understands how vile and serious this is.

You get the same kind of thing here and there in EtcetEra in other serious topics. Those posters either get bounce or get banned.

Look, they may have posted on a forum notrious for hosting child pornography, so notorious in fact that it is banned from Google, and yes they responded to homophobic memes and it IS true that they...BUT

I'd like to consider myself internet savy and didn't know 8chan was that bad, I simply knew it as the 4chan where anyone could make a board. I think MOST people dont realize that 8chan is that shitty (probably on it's fringes) and if I'm reading right they came to THQ asking for the AMA, so it's not quite like they chose the website specifically.

Though of course I understand the feeling that companies and PR should be held to a certain standard and should have looked into it further. But it's not like they defended the website at all, I think they gave a pretty satisfactory apology for the situation. If I'm going to join in on cancel culture I'd at least like there to be a more easy decision to make than doing it because of some PR mishap with some naive or stupid individuals. But I wont judge how much others can take offense to something, I just kind of expected to be more infuriated than I ended up being. Just disappointed.

I'm right next to the social media team at my corporation. Your ignorance of 8chan doesn't mean shit, people get in trouble for far less working these accounts. When you represent a company in this capacity, it's exactly your job to know when you promote it or mention it.

Also, get outta here with that cancel culture shit. No one's telling you what to do.

I'm not going to defend anybody, but keep in mind they're located in Vienna/Austria and it must have been between 8 and 9 pm local time when the AMA started. Not a whole lot of people in the office around that time, I'd assume.
Journalists were able to reach the office and they confirmed it was real and on purpose.

The link is STILL up!

Kinda makes sense that THQ would hold an AMA there after they bought Warhorse Studios, a developer that created a game with the explicit aim of being "anti-gamergate".

Just a small factual correction there - Dan Vávra is a massive shithead and alt-righter, and Warhorse as a whole is at least suspect for not having a problem with letting him speak for the studio, but there is nothing toxic in their game as far as I'm aware.

No. 8chan is literally all pedophiles and racists. You can figure it out in about a second with a Google search.

Please actually read a thread if you're going to post in it.

They knew what this was.

It's not just the fact that he didn't look into it,
Let's go over what happened, he announced, preceded to go in despite some people telling him about what the site does, reply back to people talking about loli's and slurs , paused at one point to assure people that the nasty stuff will not matter, go back to the site, retweeted people saying that people were whining then only 2 hours later apologized.
It is unreasonable to believe that this was a mistake.

I recommend this with utmost sincerity, even though I'm sure it's condescending, sort your life out. Seriously. Look into child trafficking, slavery and child pornography, and learn to empathize. This is where most of us are coming from. You are so quick to be so cynical about how nothing changes anything. That's no way to live. This shit ain't right and we're discussing it on a message board. Not much more to it.

It's child porn, if you don't think that's infuriating perhaps your account should be canceled.

How did you morph that logic into me not finding child porn reprehensible?

I'm working under the assumption that they werent aware of that website's history/policies regarding it so them naively doing an AMA there isn't as infuriating as them going there knowing that.

Ah yes, MOST people didn't realize 8chan was such a shit hole. The front page of this forum thread and THQ's twitter post are obviously just internet Ph.Ds in a sea of GEDs

Because there is clear evidence that contradicts your assumption.

I just can't with some of you guys.

it's amazing how you could swap the posts from banned members in this thread and half of the posts from that thread in etcetera where people are whining about the op being upset at homophobic/transphobic jokes in Friends and they'd somehow fit perfectly

like, there are people display the exact same level of aggressive disinterest to companies supporting nazi child pornography websites as with people who think old television shows didn't age well

Speaks volumes about the company culture, the posts made by the THQ people are sickening.
Might be a good time to investigate if any more serious shit is going down there?

Guys. This is a site known for child porn and other heinous things. Child porn. Blacklisted. Actually hard to even get to if you have no clue of it.

They knew. This isn't some "disappointment" or "overreaction". They literally not only advertised such a site, but they also posted in it and did similar vile responses. They. Freaking. Knew.

So before you start wagging your finger at "drama queen Era", maybe take a minute to think "Is this REALLY the hill I want to die on?"

You don't believe a word of the horseshit you're saying. You don't care about it being horseshit.

And that's shameful.

They've saved their accounts for years for this moment.
