I don't get why anyone would say the people responsible shouldn't be fired. Do those of you saying it even have jobs?

The PR guys' only job is public relations. Thanks to their actions, the entire company's public image is in the fucking toilet. They literally did their job as poorly as humanly possible. In any line of work, when you can't do the job, you don't get to keep it. It's not like they're being laid off after a merger, it's their own fucking fault.

People simply hate ResetERA for some reason.
Note, by my knowledge this is quite literally the only gaming forum where typical "gamer language" isn't allowed. For example, the casual homophobia, racism, and sexism that is prevalent in online gaming communities and defended as "just gamer culture." This includes language like the kind shown in the stuff the AMA guys specifically responded to.

I understand where you are coming from and I agree to an extent. This excuse that the PR guy didnt know what 8Chan was is ridiculous. He is in PR. I dont think they intended to normalize pedophilia or child abuse though imo. This was poorly conceived edgelord bullshit which needs to have repercussions but do all the studios under them deserve to get affected ? Game devs are already having a hard time holding on to their jobs.
By being a big name company and agreeing to an AMA on that site, they lent that site credibility. You can try and claim they didn't intend to all you like (despite them knowing the reputation of the place if you look at their numerous posts) they still did it.
As for the rest...just quit it. You're a dev, I get it, but it's not your place to try and guilt people who are choosing to forego supporting a company with an upper structure that'd wilfully support a site like 8Chan. Yes, devs are losing jobs, thanks to corporate mismanagement and greed...it's shitty to use that situation to try and guilt people here.

Make a burner account, wait months or even a whole year to use it just so they can get banned after a few minutes. I mean, it's not like we're all recoiling in horror when we see this trolling bullshit, it's more like, "oh look some trolling. Bye."

I hope this incident triggers more corporate responsibility from companies around. This passes the lines of being ignorant and moronic into something much more horrific. How the hell did someone think this was a good idea, giving exposure to that hell hole in any way. :(

What corporate responsibility you wish it will happen? From whom?
THQ CEO himself washed his hands over the subject.

They could have just taken the day off and it would have been 10000% better PR for THQ Nordic.

Unless "When you google the name of our company, you now find lots of references to white supremacy, and discussion of images of child abuse" was an intended goal of their PR arm.

I can not imagine a human person, much less ones with the titles of PR & Marketing Director and Business & Product Development Director at a sizeable company, being able to exhibit such an incomprehensible level of incompetence that they did not take 10 seconds to google "8chan". Or noticed any of the blatant red flags that were then put in front of them, some of which they responded to. It is inconceivable.

The only logical explanation I can think of is that this was an attempt to leverage Gamergate engagement on social media, get a bunch of retweets.
"Those angry shitheads are good for making numbers go up, let's use that."

I can imagine marketing assholes thinking that's a good idea, especially since this happened with Play-Asia and Direct2Drive, and those cases didn't blow up like this. It would be a highly stupid plan, considering 8chan goes beyond Gamergate, but at least it's not just complete goddamn nonsense.
So, are we contemplating the idea that maybe some people wanted to sabotage THQ from the inside?

Because nobody can be this dumb.
Or this.
The one guy, Pollice, has a bunch of shares in the company though, so that would still be very incompetent.

You know how easy it is for me to say I browse and post on 4ch knowing full well of the content that's hosted on there, and still feel relieved that 4ch of all people are capable of fucking getting rid of CP content on their site

why do you have to make a burner account to defend 8ch

"It's just shitposting" yeah nigga I shitpost too but I'm not defending CP

I really hope folks don't file this under "PR blunder of the century!!!!"

They knew what they were doing. No half hearted apology is gonna make me forget that. Never buying a single game from these garbage humans.

Which sucks because I doubt "we're disgusting nazi pedo pieces of shit FYI" was in the LOI's THQ Nordic sent out to struggling developers.

Talking more industry wide. At this point, I don't see how THQ can recover, not care to know.

We've seen the industry over the last few years increase corporate responsibility and awareness in regards to many social issues (diversity, equality, work life balance, and more), but unfortunately stupid stunts like this and offensive parties and what not are still happening.

What I'm trying to say is that companies need to be much more responsible about who they work with, including who they partner with for publicity purposes.

It should be more wild that a company's PR could turn to the worst avenue possible on the public internet. But there are some stupid folks out there and they somehow found work.
If at least one person knew who and what they reached out to someone would have slapped the keyboard away from them.

Wow, looks like the CEO isn't going to leave a crater in Vienna where Brock/Pollice/Neubauer are standing.

Let's see what Nickelodeon and shareholders think.

Don't forget to boycott all their games. Yes, I feel bad for the devs but there is no way to give them money without also giving some to THQ.

And they did this AMA on purpose. They curry some favor with a crowd they seem to align with and hope the wider audience does not notice or forgets about it next time they buy a game. *Don't forget.* I had a few THQ games on my Steam wishlist and they are all purged and Ignored now so I do not accidentaly re-add them back next time I check my discovery queue.

Doesn't 8chan have even less moderation than fucking 4chan? And that site is already a goddamn mess.
Who the hell approved this? And WHY did anybody think this was even a good pitch.
It's honestly so bad it's fucking hilarious.

Holy shit. People need to be fired over this. Everyone involved. What an insane disaster to okay something like this.
That guy is Director of business and production development, board member, and shareholder with 115,681 class A shares and 655,524 class B shares in THQ Nordic AB (publ), Reinhard Pollice. One of the most powerful people at the company, just below Lars himself.

Not someone easy to just fire

Update 2:

When asked for comment, THQ CEO Lars Wingefors said the PR and marketing manager at THQ Nordic GmbH had already commented on it through Twitter.

Are you fucking kidding me??

This whole company is rotten. I foolishly expected more.

Are they ALL gator nazis? The Warhorse acquision takes a whole new light now.

Oh my god I feel so sorry for the decent devs who work under this publisher.

I'd be happy to support a dev working on THQ Nordic games if their management went on the record condemning this stuff and calling for firings/resignations.

Given the weakness of the response so far, the willingness of the people involved to directly engage with 8chan shitposters (and not just willingness to engage, they were comfortable engaging them), and the fact that the THQ Nordic corporate Twitter page contained a direct link to 8chan and still contains it right now, there's really only one conclusion that makes much sense, which is that promoting 8chan was part of the intent all along.

They knew what they were doing. Watch Hbomberguy's video on 'Woke Brands' -- this is THQ Nordic taking the same approach but from the opposite direction.

They believe courting the alt-right while feigning ignorance to everybody else is a winning strategy.
Yeah, but they could've just done that by going on Reddit or 4chan's /v/ instead of a known CP den.
