The problem here as I said yesterday is that THQ Ceo seems to be the dame guy for both companies and this guy owns Koch Media is very hard to boycott THQ because in Europe as I said Koch distribute almost everything, from Bethesda to Square.

It's weird that you can (apparently) make a joke about somebody raping a user's cat, and then that user gets banned, for calling you out for making that joke?

Good to know, I guess? Doesn't really make me want to participate in discussions here, but oh well

It makes no fucking sense at all.

Definitely encouraging to see people can come in here and bait arguments by posting in bad faith and making comments about raping a cat and get nothing for it.

Yeah, I hope the mods realize how fucked this is and you know, fix it.

Seriously. This is pretty damn egregious.

It would be super great if another mod or admin would come in here and re-check the situation, because I'm not certain that the mod responsible paid very close attention to what they were doing. Weltall may have been a bit aggressive, but considering what he was responding to, it's not a surprise. Hecht BronsonLee

WTF mods...

On-topic: I can't believe there are still people in this thread not-so-subtly minimizing what THQ Nordic have actually done. No one cares if you think there will be no consequences. Did it ever occur to y'all typing that is actually part of the reason that companies get away with this bullshit without any consequences? If you aren't OK with THQ Nordic's actions, then stop saying shit like that because you are actively helping them out. If you are OK with their actions, then I honestly feel 100% uncomfortable being on the same forum as you people and I hope the mods take that seriously.

Looking at the discussion, it appears that while AOPM *may* initially be coming into the thread to start something, it's not always the case, like the other instances have been prior in this thread. Unless something is particularly egregious, we'll take a moment to assess the situation and decide whether or not to take action. However sometimes people are asking questions without JAQing. AOPM had several posts responding to other users that seemed to be fine. It was only Weltall that was going for the throat.

Based on previous bans in this thread with people coming in to cause trouble, and the situation as a whole, we understand that people can be on edge and unwilling to be forgiving if someone makes a statement that hasn't completely caught up. We've taken action on a few drive-by posts of that nature in this thread. However this doesn't appear to be a drive-by.

In this case, we're inclined to remove both infractions and leave the modpost with the understanding that going forward, hostility is still against our rules. If you feel someone is coming in to cause trouble, report it. We'll take a look at it like we have so many other posts in the thread.

Yeah, removing the infractions and just asking people to be civil is probably the best thing.

Now, hopefully this thread can get up to speed again.

That being said: A polite reminder that there is significant evidence to show that the people at THQ knew what they were doing. Please do read the summary before posting.

Also, even when things are tense, "someone raped your cat?" comments are never okay. Don't bring that here.

For what is worth, I didn't even report the other user so I don't know what's going on. I also don't want him (?) to be banned since he has me on ignore and we won't be continuing our little rattle. Also apologies to his cat, if he owns one :-)

He was extremely hostile though. I didn't bait troll, I was genuinely expressing my opinion and I never justified or promoted what those people did.

I will say for a last time that it - through my experience in the industry - still baffles my mind that this immense PR fuckery could be considered as strategic move from THQ but maybe I'm too naive. It seems thought that I could be very much accused to be a company apologizer soon, so I will exit the discussion before it makes me feel appalled.

This is a tough situation because we are so used to random mysterious posters. I appreciate the breather actually.

Fuck outta here. Just saw the initial post. They knew exactly what they did and they endorsed child porn and hate crimes

This is the new paradigm of corporate marketing

It's rather rash but it's absolutely believable that it would be a strategic move from THQN

Honestly wouldn't surprise me if THQ took the calculated risk of being seen as edgy with a group of consumers as they have gained a lot of goodwill from the community for quite a while. They took a calculated risk in being seen as edgy and it backfired.

User banned (permanent): Inflammatory thread derail, history of infractions, suspected troll account
They removed the warning and the ban. It's good to know that dog whistling bad faith arguments and beastiality jokes (?) are accepted here.
Don't forget child abuse is okay here too with all the posts cheering on videos showing police brutality against children

It's shit like this that rally highlights how garbage the "journalism" for games is and how most game journalist sites (outside of Kotaku, Waypoint, etc) are essentially just advertising sites that don't care about covering important news, or actually asking important questions to publishers.

So, to be clear, is implying an aggressive posters attitude due to that certain user's cat (or substitute any animal really) getting fucked off the table now? Will it result in a warning or will it be a harsher ban if someone else does it now?

To be crystal clear, I'm not advocating or saying that we should accuse such things of other users, just genuinely curious so as to not step on any toes.

Thanks! :-)

About what I expected. They'll try to bunker down until it's over.

I fortunately missed the whole thing about being banned and then unbanned. I will keep my opinion about the whole deal to myself, but I want to thank everyone for their support, it means a lot! :)

For whatever is worth, it was not my intention to "go for the throat", and if anyone checks the whole chain of replies, the first thing I did was to explain why we, the people that find this kind of thing disgusting, cannot complacently sit idly or excuse them with "I'm sure it's a mistake", because that only encourages companies to keep doing this shit; a point I've repeated several times since then, and hopefully if there's any takeaway from all of this, it's that. Plausible deniability always favors the alt-right; don't fall for it, for we are the only ones that can make courting them a net negative for companies.

Some of them didn't even remember key pieces of information to begin with and are putting the main focus on THQN's apology, letting their bullshit be the narrative.

So far Waypoint, RPS and PC Gamer seem like the ones that might actually do their job and not just let this pass like a fart in the wind. Kudos to them.

I think Gamespot, Kotaku and co will have forgotten about it by the end of the day. Non-gaming outlets and a couple of people like Patrick Klepek will do better.

Gamespot's article on the issue might as well have been "this thing happened, they apologized. Now, look at this awesome Darksiders 3 video". They are pathetic.

Publishers have all sites by the balls, meaning they can get blacklisted easily. Not saying it's OK, but if you're paid to bring coverage and you don't get the games ahead of time/invited to events, it sucks. It's always been like that. So the silence is partly due to the intimate relationship between publishers and writers.

To all of the staff who looked it over, thanks for doing so!

Now we can all go back to being depressed that THQN will not be held accountable for this by the industry at all.

Maybe THQ could hold a AMA here too in the future? ;)
