As we get closer to the launch of Disney+ the more we learn about it. The THR article goes into a lot of details including the Marvel shows"

Disney is sparing no expense on programming, projecting a 2020 original content budget short of $1 billion. The Mandalorian is said to cost $15 million an episode, for instance, and a source pegs Marvel entries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Hawkeye at as much as $25 million per episode. Rounding out the high-end projects are unscripted and shortform series like Encore with host Kristen Bell, on which adults will restage their high school musicals, and One Day at Disney, which will follow employees in various divisions at the company.
This puts the Marvel shows on the budget level of some of the non-avengers movies.

A dumpster
Good, Netflix MCU shows always looked so cheap. I don’t Jessica Jones ever flew on screen.

That honestly sounds like an absolutely ridiculous number. That's far higher than late series episodes of Game of Thrones.

You mean Netflix MCU shows. There are a ton of amazing looking Netflix shows.

Hmmm, maybe an all-CG She-Hulk is not out of the question then.

25M per episode is insane honestly though. I don’t see how they will be able to justify more than single seasons of anything that doesn’t catch fire.

I'm down with that. Bucky had better get back to Winter soldier status during the show. They neutered the hell out of my favorite MCU avenger.

I don't think the plan is to do multiple seasons of all these shows. I thought the point was to do content that they don't have time to show in theatres but still give it the same effort as MCU titles

Also while I was pretty impressed with Daredevil at the time of release compared to the CW schlock, it felt like the budgets progressively got slashed as each new show came out.

Seems like a waste. I don't have data but I don't think people in general rewatch entire series as often as they rewatch movies, aside from stuff like The Simpsons or Big Bang Theory that is always on and people love to catch an episode anytime. Not only that but these series will definitely target the relatively hardcore fans of the MCU, so only a fraction of the people who went to watch Endgame will actually bother checking out these shows. We'll see, Disney certainly has money to burn.

They have to spend a lot. Maybe it doesn't need to be 25m per episode, but still. After Game of Thrones viewers expect fantasy/sci-fi shows to have production values on par with most films. On top of that Disney isn't cash starved, so they can't use that as an excuse to skimp on these series.

This looks like a dagger thrust into the heart of #TeamGreenPaint.

#TeamCG storming the field.

I always wonder does this mean they are paying another firm $25 mil or are they paying employees that much? Does this include hardware/software costs

I don't think the plan is for more than a single season of just about anything. I think in most cases they're looking for big-budget short series that allow for interesting stories that add background to things like the MCU or Star Wars, can sit on Disney+ for years or maybe decades, but also have a definite ending that lets the actors move on to other things and makes space for Disney to create other new stuff.

When I read the budget per episode for the Netflix shows (which I don’t remember offhand) I was completely floored. It made no sense. There was definitely some kind of skimming off the top there. Did Jessica Jones or Luke Cage scream “big budget” to you?
