I own one but rarely use it, I'm sure that'd be the case for most Americans when hot tea isn't as big over here. It just takes up space and is semi redundant, so just using the microwave instead is understandable.

I just use the stove. It's incredibly easy.

I also live in Texas where we favor iced tea and iced coffee cuz it's hot as shit.

I just heat it in a pot on the stove. Have never seen someone microwave water.

Almost as weird as the pissing in the shower thing, but I guess that's not an American thing.

I use a normal-ass kettle on my gas stove, it's faster than most electric kettles because one of the burners is huge.

Electric kettles don't work too well on 120V, so they're not much faster in america than using other methods of getting water to boil.

I'm American and I've never seen anyone in my life microwave water unless it was water poured into a cup noodles cup.

I've only ever seen electric kettles like the one I have or boiled in a pot on a stove.

I mean Americans just don't heat water as frequently because we don't drink as much tea. Most Americans drink coffee from an automatic drip machine which handles the water on its own. I make pour over coffee when I'm not making espresso so I have an electric kettle for that, but for the average American its pretty unnecessary.

who the fuck microwaves their water? MAYBE employees at an office without a stove/kettle option, but this IS NOT a wide spread American thing.

No, no we don't. We put it on top of the stove like sane people.

Oh boy it's this thread again, time for some rationale and non-hyperbolic discussion.
"i have an electric kettle and it does a fine job, but i'll never understand the outrageous overreaction a lot of euros have towards americans microwaving water. Like it's not a big deal at all."

It is a big deal.

With the air fryer, the Instant Pot, the Sous Vide container, and the waffle maker there's no room on my counter for something that can only heat up water.

As an Asian, though, I do find it odd if your kitchen doesn't have a device that is dedicated to making rice. Preferably one that uses fuzzy logic.

I have an electric kettle, but when I was in college I would microwave water when I was making a cup noodle.

I have a kettle and heat it over a stove top. If I don't have a kettle, I just heat water in a pot.

Love my electric kettle, also have a teapot and could use the stove but kettle is much faster.

Fuck microwaving water or any liquid. My father in law microwaves hours old coffee and it's Fucking disgusting.

I do this when I don't have time for the stove.

Honest question: why is it a problem? Microwaved water isn't going to kill me

Microwave haters all up in here

We don't refer to an entire meal as "tea" so we're generally okay without a specific-purpose electric kettle.
