She's FIVE TWO, but I want you is what I always heard in the chorus.

It's "fine too."

Ac/D's 'Dirty Deeds'. For the longest time, the part where in the lyrics they say "done dirt cheap", I heard as "Thunder Chief". I would always wonder "Why are they mentioning Chief Thunder from Killer Instinct?" Lol

The Chainsmokers - Closer

What I heard:
  • So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover
That I know you can't afford
like that tattoo on your shoulder
Actual lyrics:
  • So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover
That I know you can't afford
Bite that tattoo on your shoulder
Bite the tattoo on your shoulder? Why? The way I heard it makes way more sense.

Disclaimer: I don't like this band.

The Sailboat Zephyr Song

Fly away on my sailboat
I feel it more than ever
And in this perfect weather
We'll find a place together

Then my friends and I would joke that it was fly away on my cellphone, which was super funny because it was obviously sailboat (it was zephyr)

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC.

When I was little, I thought it was saying "Dirty Deeds and the Thunder Chief", like two Western outlaw badasses that went around fucking shit up. In my mind, "Dirty Deeds" was the nickname of the Cowboy/Clint Eastwood type and the "Thunder Chief" was his badass, Indian partner in crime. I still hear it when the chorus chimes in "Dirty Deeds and the Thunder Chief ... Dirty Deeds and the Thunder Chief".

I just saw that you posted this earlier! I'm glad I'm not alone in hearing "Thunder Chief" lol!

Slide by Goo Goo Dolls had this line:

"Little pieces of the nothin' that fall"

That I always thought/heard as:

"A little piece is better than nothing at all."

Which is a way more sensical phrase.

"Dirty deeds in the Thunder Jeep".

Like AC/DC ride around in their own themed Jeep acting like degenerates or something.

Look at all those Starbucks lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane

Those are the lyrics, right? What else could it be?

Also, mine was always "The New Style":

What I heard:
I met a girl at the party and she started to flirt
I told her summarize and she pulled up her skirt

What it is:
I met a girl at the party and she started to flirt
I told her some rhymes and she pulled up her skirt

I like mine better.

Nope:

Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane

New York
Looking down I can see my feet now,
I've grown so tall,
I'm walking right in the sunlight
And I try to learn to love the shine,
but I find it awful hard*

The actual lyric is "hot" which isn't a huge difference, and makes a little more sense, but is slightly less melancholy.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Golden Lion

I heard
"This is a movement without a time"

But the actual lyric is
"This is the moon without a tide"

The first line made me think she was saying they were part of a movement but without anything to rebel against. Like they wanted to be part is "something" but there was nothing to be part of.

"Put up a fucking lie."

As a kid I thought they were saying fucking on the radio and was baffled.

Turns out it's "put up a parking lot" which is much more boring.

Oh... damn, I misheard a whole lot of that. Come to think of it I thought I heard "gay paradise" too. So I guess the misheard version was about sending the fucking signal in gay paradise.

They knew what they were doing.

Oh I have the perfect example.

The Black Panther trailer used the Run the Jewels song Legend has It which has a line that I heard as "step into the spotlight, woo!" Which was a perfect line considering the context of the movie. But the actual line is "step into the spot like woo!" Which I don't like as much.
Thanks for ruining this for me.

Iron Maiden - Flight of Icarus

Heard:
Fly
On your wings
Like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your wings, like an eagle
Fly, touch the sun, yeah
Real:
Fly
On your way
Like an eagle
Fly as high as the sun
On your way, like an eagle,
Fly, touch the sun, yeah

"On your way"? Pffft no. I'll continue singing "wings", thanks.

Never happened. I'm hard of hearing in the frequencies that overlap with human speech, so its more rare than not that I miss a lot of what is said, to the point where I only pay attention to the lyrics after the 15-20th listen of a song. I do hear things mostly correct if I can read the liner notes while listening.

I don't understand a single word in this song. I looked at the lyrics once and didn't care for them, so I just instantly forgot about them and went back to not understanding anything.

Actual lyrics:
Thinking, counting, all the hours you wait.

Actual Line
"I'm in the black, can't see or be seen"

What I thought for years
"I'm in the black, can't see your blue seam"

Once I finally heard the correct line (heard it live).. I was sorta let down as I think my original translation was dead on..

What I heard:

I am now burdened with this knowledge

What the fuck man

Even in the context of the RTJ music video spotlight makes more sense

I wish I'd never entered this thread
Thanks for ruining this for me.

All of these are making me lol hard

Maybe it's because I've listened to Legend Has It like 200+ times since it was released way back when, but I can't ever remember thinking it was spotlight.

I'mma BUY you a drank
OOOOuuuuuEEEEEuuuuuoooo
I'mma take you home with meeeee

But this one, wtf T-Pain nobody is buying that.

Had to read your lyrics about three times before I figured out what that's supposed to be. Joe Biden, indeed.

When I was young I use to think the lyrics to that one line of All-star was:

"With her finger up her bum and the shape of an L on her forehead"

Still makes me chuckle every time I hear it

Bagbak by Vince Staples.

I mistook "We on now" for "We own you". "We own you" sounded more impactful to me. Also this is very embarrassing to admit so cut me some slack.

This one is kind of embarrassing but the Bloc Party song Like Eating Glass, I always thought the second line was "open mouths swallowing arse". I thought it was a very crude but provocative reference to gay sex, since the lead singer is gay. Nope.. it just "Open mouths swallowing us"..

It does sound like he says arse, that's how I hear it lol.

Micheal Jackson is the king of mishearable lyrics for me

No moustache could've been any clearer
More metaphorical and artistic than the actual lyrics

You're dignified by baby, it don't matter if you're black or white
He doesn't even say the right number of SYLLABLES for the actual lyrics

It's supposed to be come on.

What I thought it was for 10 years:

I like the one I thought I heard, it has a much more visual impact.

John Legend - All Of Me

"Head's underwater but I'm breathing fire."

And it made complete sense to me given the context of the song.
