I really doubt we are going to get a sequel which is a shame because the sessions make for probably my favourite JRPG battle system.

Just played this (to take a break from Super Mario Odyssey) and i loved it!

This is why i'm not getting rid of my Wii U.

I'm not huge fan of ports, but porting this to the Switch would pretty much guarantee a sequel. It would do great, I think.

I wouldn't mind SMT V getting a battle system kinda like the one in TMS. It was great.

I have this but I would buy it again on the Switch. It really needs a second chance to sell.

My thoughts about this game were pretty varied before and after release. I went from "huh looks cool" at the initial SMTxFE reveal, to "uh what... ok? nah" when it was revealed as TMS#FE, back to "huh looks cool" when they showed off the gameplay, to "hey this is pretty fun" as I started playing, then finally "GOTY". I stand by that. I'd love to see a sequel.

This game also has one of my favorite battle BGMs of all time:

I have yet to complete this game as I've been pre-occupied with new releases. But from the time I have put into the game I have absolutely loved it. Between the battle system and the stylization in the art style among other things. Everything just melds so well. I was actually playing this right before P5 came out and got burnt out from how long P5 was. Definitely will be returning to turn-based games soon and this will be my first revisit!

One of the most fun JRPGs of all time! Don't forget to import the art book from Amazon JP, that thing is glorious!

So, how feasible is it for Atlus/Nintendo to do a port for the Switch? Has Nintendo said anything regarding porting stuff from the Wii U to the Switch?

I enjoyed this game a lot, but unskippable sessions ruined it for me. Such a huge oversight. I eventually gave up in last dungeon because My desire to see the end didn't outweigh my lack of patience every battle.

Hope we get a port that adds a skip button. Also game definitely deserves to get a sequel but think that is unlikely. And I would definitely rather get smtv over #fe2.
Good thing we're getting it, then.

That doesn't mean that TMS doesn't deserve a second chance, especially since it was really up against some huge obstacles the first time (being on Wii U at the end of its pathetic lifespan, for a start)

feasible? sure...

I don't know if it's likely though. I don't think the game sold well even by Wii U standards (shocker)

edit: having said that, maybe as more of the Vita audience inevitably makes its way over to Switch, Atlus will consider it

This was the best RPG of last gen.

Better than Persona 5 honestly.
I'd agree with this.

P5, despite having some of the best presentation of the whole 2017 Golden Quarter (the period of PS4 games from Febuary to April, I mean), felt like such a chore compared to TMS.

I was too busy with Zelda to revisit it though. My bad.

Played about 15 hours of this game when it released, really enjoyed it but I got sidetracked by other games. I would definitely double dip on a Switch remaster.

An underrated little gem. I really enjoyed the battle system. It's a shame it didn't do better, but I guess the themes put a lot of people off. Amazing OT btw.

It's not without its fair share of issues (I found it a bit grindy and repetitive towards the end, and the side missions are completely throw-away), but its characters, presentation and combat system (stringing together sessions and duo arts is ridiculous in all the best ways) more than make up for those. As much as I love seeing support for Nintendo systems, it's a shame that the number of people that could potentially experience it was limited by the Wii U's low install base. Considering the FE elements, it's highly doubtful we'll ever see this on a non-Nintendo platform, but I'd love for them to re-release it on the Switch, if only so more people could come to appreciate it the way I did.

Also, to all those that do own a Wii U and have the opportunity to play it, don't let the idol theme put you off. At worst, you get used to it after a few hours, and at best, you begin to embrace it in all its campy glory. Either way, the JRPG that's underlying it is more than worth the effort.

It's a fantastic game that celebrated its 2 series while still building its own identity. Truly one of under appreciated gems of past few years. And it's still surprising it was made in the first place.

My game of the year last year. I still don't understand those that prefer Persona 5 to it— the freshness of TMS is just so engaging and unique. The gameplay loop is super solid and the battle system much more enjoyable. The bosses are the highlights, I love that it really tested out your understanding of the battle system.

Would love a sequel with localized music.

One of the best gems on the Wii U. One thing that this game did definetely better than Persona 5 was the messages

Yup. It's interesting how Poorsona 5 has mostly been forgotten about, yet TMS continues to INSPIRE passionate discussion.
No, don't get me wrong. Persona 5 has what I think is the best presentation out of any current-gen RPG, Japanese or otherwise - art, music, character design, they all hit the absolute right notes. If the game were more focused on battles rather than socialising, if the story were more focused period, if the game was shorter...then it would have been up to the same heavenly standard as Persona 3 and SMT: Nocturne. But, as it is, it's just too much grind, too much busywork, and too much Morgana telling you to sleep, which knocks it down quite a distance from its predecessors. It's not by any means a bad game, though, and as long as you take your time finishing it, and don't get distracted or bored by it in the meantime, it can be a great experience.

Still not as good as TMS though.

I really enjoyed this game on the Wii U. I loved the visuals, dungeons and especially the battle system. I think it's probably my favorite battle system last/this gen. I hope they port it over to the Switch so more people can enjoy this little gem. I would also pay 60 again to enjoy it again.

Excellent JRPG. My only issue with it is that thanks to the unskippable battle animations, it tended to drag a bit towards the end, which killed my idea to replay it to unlock all achievements.

Aside from that, excellent battle system, wonderful music and a decent story. It will be one of the hidden Wii U's gem in the future.

The only reason I haven't and never will finish this game is because it doesn't have off TV play. But my god did I love every second that I was preoccupied with it. Might emulate it one day or something. No subtitles for battle words was a bummer too.

The battle system is just so refined and customizable. Something about leveling up weapons I'm just weak to.

I love this game, and it's easily my favorite Wii U title. They really had a lot of fun mixing FE and MegaTen together in creative ways that I really appreciated.

It's just a shame that a lot of what's fun about the game was drowned out on social media by idiots screaming about the localization and even going out of their way to try to make the localizers look bad.

Awesome!

Though I didn't quite finish this game last year ( I can't recall why, I feel I hit a strange place where it was difficult to progress..... I'll have to check) I enjoyed this game very very much.

So much that I'd certainly pick it up for Switch if it ever makes it over.

I maybe would play this again, but only if they made a vastly extended port ala Persona 4 Golden. I really had fun with this and the characters really grew on me (especially Yashiro, who is just a clumsy, antisocial dork at heart) but it felt like the devs ran out of budget on every corner. I don't think I would enjoy a second playthrough as it is now.

One more switch port beggar here. Really, the one game that almost made me buy a Wii U. Never did since I was flooded with the 3DS and the PS4 but I'm ready for that Switch purchase.

The battle system in this game was sublime. The dungeons felt like a bit of a slog sometimes, but combat was a joy, leading to a great experience. If it gets ported to Switch I would like to see a more convenient way to unlock carnage and skills, to reduce backtracking. Also, let us switch out Itsuki. Battle subtitles would be cool too. They could also include the DLC. Not sure what the localization changes were...? But if that's something that bugged people maybe they could look at that for the port. No region locking would probably make this less important I guess.

I'm sorry for adding this into the mix but I also wish this was ported to the Switch. I have a WiiU but I barely bought any games for it since the console bore me quite quickly so I missed some of the best gems from the system. JRPG mixed with a few Fire Emblem elements should be something special.

Another reason why I want this on Switch is because the touchscreen from my gamepad is not working anymore. Weird, is the first time that a Nintendo console dies on me, says a lot about the system I guess.

Do you remember the 2nd or so dungeon with the photo model stuff as a theme? In the original the models were something that resemble a borderline pornography kind of thing. I don't think this would fly so easily in the western hemisphere so it was the right call to change that.
The story still works regardless, even if the reactions of the protagonists on this topic make more sense in the original.

Also there were some fanservicey, optional hot springs scenes as a DLC which weren't in the localized version, if I remember correctly.

Ah, ok. I figured it was probably outfits and ages type of changes. The ending to that chapter was a bit odd, so that makes sense. I would be happy to see it ported regardless. Fire Emblem seems to have leaned in a bit more with regards to fanservice lately, and maybe Nintendo too given the WSJ report about them wanting more "mature" games. But, it sounds like it wouldn't be worth undoing localization changes for a port, especially since they were well reasoned. I do think it'd be cool to get a darker game if we got a proper sequel though -- not necessarily fanservicey, just a bit more like Persona.

I really hope this gets a Switch port of some kind. More people need to play this game especially Persona/SMT fans. I really could not finish Persona 5, but Tokyo Mirage Sessions had me hooked from beginning to end. The session system was the best and I would love it to return in other Atlus games. A sequel, though a huge longshot, would be amazing.

Very solid RPG. Really hope this gets ported over.

They could at least outsource the port. It doesn't even really have to have extra content. It just needs on a more mainstream platform to thrive. And the Switch needs software at this point so its win win.

Really glad to see an official topic on here. I hope someone does Summon Night 6 next. I really like seeing the JRPG love on here.

Man, I love TMS. What a shame it was trapped on Wii U and released in the last year of its life. I'm sure licensing and low sales potential will keep it off Switch, but this game really is a gem.
