Tom said not to read much into the XSX exclusivity part. Games will come to both XSX and XSS.

I can see the Xbox being a PlayStation sandwich price wise given what we know;

XSS - $349 (because X1S new version will
Be $299 according to recent reports)

PS5D - $399 (because I expect Sony to take a loss to rip us off on their digital store at a later date)

PS5 - $499 (because we know Sony are writing off $1.3billion in the next quarter)

XSX - $599 (because everyone else in the year down thread seemed to thing anything lower was impossible)

Edit: reasoning given because people don't seem to be reading the thread.

I think the chart needs to be edited as its confusing regarding xsx exclusive.

Sub 4 tf and digital only tells me 299 is happening with ms taling some loss to make back on digital purchase. Would they also take loss on xsx though? Having two sku usually means u take loss on one and breakeven on the other or even profit on the other.

We shall see. Ms is in great position for next gen . What a turn around from last gen . Congrats

I don't understand this performance target. I'm sure it can play games in 4K so it should say 4k 30fps. Is 1440p 60fps suppose to sound better or is the max display 1440p?

>250W? How is that possible with a GPU like that? How much Watt is the XSX supposed to use?

Less than half the GPU power and only $50 difference in price? Seems unrealistic. It would be DOA if it's only $50 less than a PS5.

These components must be seriously underclocked to have a max output of up to 300w.

I think

Series S - 299
PS5D - 450
PS5 - 500
XSX - 500

Mainly because of the target groups being compared to One S and One X. I also dont see a reason why the XSX is 100 bucks more than the PS5.

That's a pretty powerful box. No disc drive is a big deal for sure. If this is $299 and marketed well, it could absolutely clean up.

Enthusiast price huh...I am starting to fear the prices of both PS5 and XSX.

It simply isn't. There is no need for a PSU rated at any more than say the PS4 slims 165W IMO (and probably less) with an ~ at the wall usage of 120W max I would wager based on the current rumoured specs.

$50 difference between 4Tf and 10+Tf ain't happening

Only reason I'm saying this is because the MRSP for the One S appears to still be $299. Makes no sense for both to have that price tag attached, even if one ends up selling for less.

Yea that doesn't make sense .ps5 de at 399 means sony is taking more than 100$ loss . Not happening .

And lockhart is 299 imo

Well they're projecting a drop of profits of $1.3 billion in their busiest quarter, so they're taking a massive loss on something.

If that's true, surely that will kill both Xbox SKUs? Why would anyone pay for a Series S when for just $50 more you can get a much superior product in the PS5DE? And a $100 more expensive Xbox with no decent launch games?

Sounds like it will turn out like this:

XSS - $299
PS5D - $399
PS5 - $499
XSX - $499

Both companies would be fine, with market shares likely staying as they are now.

Can someone translate the XSX and XSS specs into PC specs so that an Idiot like me can understand it?

Yep that number make no sense .

The price difference between a 250 and 350w PSU on this kind of mass scale is not vast - economies of scale may dictate that more cost effective to ship both systems with identical power supplies versus using two. It wouldn't be the first time.

There is some interesting symmetry in that both systems may be using an identical bus configuration but one uses some 2GB chips while the other uses all 1GB chips for ram - I'm unclear if that's just a coincidence or if there's some kind of binning and overlapping supply stuff going on there.

Mods might want to change the thread title. Tom just mentioned the CUs at 1.55. Tweak town is the source of everything else.

Not shocked at XSS being digital only

I think

XSS - 399
PS5 Digital - 499
PS5 - 549
XSX - 599
Yeah I am leaning towards something like that. The price tug war silence is not just because of some genius scheme but most likely due to that the first one will get the first wave of backlash to price.

I don't expect most games to be 60 fps on that, not unless they are targetting pretty low specs...Can you even get 1440p/60 at ultra on Gears 4 on an equivalent PC? I am currently getting 1440p/90 fps on a 2070 super. I suppose they probably can at high settings.

Anyway, seems a good option for those still on a 1080p. It should hold up decently for three years or so.

Well going by these specs and target resolutions etc, we better start seeing what the XSX can do at 4k60 to see what the downgrade is like for XSS.

Also it would appear that IF XSS does release this year, Microsoft have just mandated that cross platform games will have to run at 4k60 on XSX so the XSS can run the same game at a decent resolution ie. 1080/1440? Otherwise we will be back in 720p territory for XSS.

A Series X at $599 with that launch lineup and uncertainty about their 2021 first party lineup is DOA. Surely, surely they wouldn't be dumb enough to launch it at that price.

Still thinking $499 for both PS5 & XSX and $299-350 for XSS.

The devs would ultimately decide, But 1) 1440p60 is better and 2) would generally take way less concerted effort from the dev to achieve

Given the graphics computing gap between the two consoles, simply halving the framerate wouldnt be enough of a concession to run the same games as XSX.

Because it'll be the same as XSX
