I know this is a new season/adventure but will I miss out anything skipping straight to this, based on season 2? I'm still (very slowly) working my way through Amnesty, but it'd be nice to be able to follow the show week to week for once while I continue to power through.

Doesn't seem that way! I could see them making random remarks that could potentially spoil a prior season, but otherwise you should be fine?

Oh, amnesty is finished? I better get on that. I prefer to binge TAZ and other story podcasts.
