Trump addresses the nation on border security (1/8 9pm) |OT| I. DECLARE. EMERGENCYYYYYYY

If it's a national emergency, then why did you not declare it on your first day in office? It's such an emergency, but it could wait two years?

Now you see why they needed Kavanaugh on the court so bad. With him, you have three rubber stamp votes alongside Thomas and Alito. Roberts is a rubber stamp about 95 percent of the time, and the jury is still out on Gorsuch, but he's probably similar to Roberts.

Well, that's sure to show up in court when they challenge the legitimacy of it being a national emergency... Trump once again foiled by his arch-nemesis, Donald Trump.
To be fair, in the Supreme Court, there's at least one judge, who likes beer, that might agree with his assertion.

No of course not, that's only part of it. The shitbag constantly is causing instability within the country by not being even capable of doing his presidential duties. From further dividing the country by egging our very racist underbelly also being a racist shitheel himself. To anytime opening his mouth causing our economy to worsen from the microeconomics of directly lowering another companies valuation, to the macroeconomics with not understanding necessary global trade partners causing damage both here and elsewhere in the world; which further causes our economy to worsen because the market hates instability and as it stands where on cusp of a recession thanks in part to his orange ass. He is so ineffectual and stupid that he wasn't able accomplish shit (other than highly illegal and immoral, so negative policies and actions but him accomplishing "that" can be contested.) with a stacked government in his favor; the other part of the blame for that belongs with the GOP as well. As well as everyone around him appears to be just as corrupt and/or opportunistic from his family to politicians, with few exceptions. I guess to end this off the government let alone president should largely be operating in the background to where it's citizens can go about their days and lives in peace (of course I mean in the positive aspect of this idea as it can be spun as negative, but I could be wrong and/or naive about my interpretation about part of what makes a good and successful government.), but unfortunately we don't get that, every single fucking day we get to spin the wheel of shit to see what emotionally and mentally drained ideas/policies shitbag and his ass suckers think of next, go us! I'm just going to end this here because if I don't I'll be here all day because his list of shit is never-ending, and I think I summarized/painted the picture of his and this administration's negativity and evil well enough about what it is currently like in this country; there is more and certain points that can still be espoused further however. Anyway, hope this explanation was satisfactory for you, cheers!

Holy fuck.. this is legitimately scary in its relevancy. Is the rest of the show this level of quality? I haven't seen it since I was a kid. I would totally watch it if it is
It's one if the best shows ever made. It holds up phenomenally well and remains scarily relevant.

Wow, opening narration has Trump down to a tee.

Portrait of a bush-league Führer named Donald Trump, a sparse little man who feeds off his self-delusions and finds himself perpetually hungry for want of greatness in his diet. And like some goose-stepping predecessors he searches for something to explain his hunger, and to rationalize why a world passes him by without saluting. That something he looks for and finds is in a sewer. In his own twisted and distorted lexicon he calls it faith, strength, truth. But in just a moment Donald Trump will ply his trade on another kind of corner, a strange intersection in a shadowland called the Twilight Zone.

Asked by a reporter why he didn’t declare a national emergency during his Oval Office speechon Tuesday night, Trump said, “because I think we might work a deal, and if we don’t, I may go that route.”

“I have the absolute right to do national emergency if I want,” Trump added.

The reporter followed up by asking the president what his “threshold” will be to declare one. But instead of citing the possibility that conditions could deteriorate at the southern border, Trump cited political considerations — rather than anything that’s happening on the ground.

“My threshold will be if I can’t make a deal with people that are unreasonable,” Trump said, alluding to Democrats who thus far have shown no sign of caving to his demand that more than $5 billion in wall funding be included in a government funding bill.

Sadly, all of this is consistent with current Republican world-view and is, in no way alarming to them; reality really IS whatever Trump decides it is, and they'll go along with it. They're okay with this new interpretation of the world.
This is why he was telling reporters at the private lunch that the speech and border visits are a waste of time. He honestly believes that he's winning this and the public is behind him. How do you negotiate with a lunatic?

I guess the bigger question is, "In a sane country, a lunatic wouldn't have been given all this power. So how do you fix a country willing to vote for a lunatic, and how do you fix a political party willing to indulge that same lunatic?"

None of this would be happening in the first place if reason and sanity had prevailed in the country as a whole. Trump didn't take the Presidency, it was given to him by voters and the Republican party.
