Well, I agree, he needs to be charged with something in the first place to be pardoned. Either he won't be charged, or if he is, he'll be pardoned.
Then state charges will be filed in NY. As noted above, Tish James will make her name going after Trump and write her own ticket.

He's not getting off scott-free. He will be charged and tried somewhere, at some level. Unlike other presidents, a lot of his crimes were committed before he entered office and have just come to light because of it.

"An 18-year-old Dallas-born U.S. citizen has been in the custody of U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement for more than three weeks, his attorney says.

Now his family fears he may be deported.

DEPORTED?! To fucking WHERE?! He's FROM America, you can't "send him back" to some place where he's not actually a citizen. UGHHHH.

And nothing will come of that.

Can't his lawyer go to the county courthouse and obtain a certified copy of his birth certificate?

I mean, I don't have a crystal ball.

But since serious money laundering/corruption/whatever charges have never been filed against an ex-president, at the state level or otherwise, maybe it's a bit premature to pronounce the whole endeavor fruitless.

I mean when you're ignoring all due process under US law and his rights as an American citizen it's a small thing to just dump him wherever is convenient and ignore the laws of other countries or international law.

You do not need to be charged with anything to be pardoned. Nixon was never charged and his pardon was a preemptive one in case charges later came relating to the Watergate break in. It basically can be a blanked pardon based on all past conduct with any range of time in the past.

Anyway, ICE sucks and this admin along with all of their supporters are racist trash.

It's not gonna effect his base though, the kid is brown.
some of them will have trouble with the fact that he's human and doing the things they identify with and seeing him surrounded by the imagery of their lives of which they are quite protective. SOME of them will have a hard time disassociating with that and will at least have to deal with some emotional turmoil.

To Guatemala with the rest of those dirty ass mexicans, that's where!

Seriously though, this got me thinking. Would a Mexican/foreigner traveler with a valid visa get detained indefinitely by ICE?

Hopefully they successfully sue the government to shit and make a huge, massive fucking stink about this. There's no way to half-ass "justify" this one. There's no "border security" here. There's no "bad hombres". There's nothing but "we arrested a guy because he's brown and kept him against his will because he was brown and ignored his birth certificate because he was brown."

You know that's not how elections work. Democrats would just vote Democrat again so that Republicans won't win.
These days elections are about turnout and enthusiasm. I'd expect a Dem President who pardoned Trump would lack both, and thus be poorly positioned in the next election. Democratic voters wouldn't vote R, but they'd stay home in disgust. Not all of them, not even most, but it only takes a few percent to flip.

So this was always about racism?

Trump voters associate their socioeconomic status with their white privilege, however little they may have.

And they're convinced that more immigration and socialist policies etc will make them feel less special. So they'll gladly burn it all down.

Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven type deal.

Why would you think that this would happen under any circumstances? This meme has been popping up a lot from leftists lately.

Horrible, just posted another topic didn't see this one.

Makes me so angry, this is clearly not for dealing with illegal immigration but instead to terrorize brown people.
