Trump Ads Will Take Over YouTube’s Homepage on Election Day

They should be neutral as in not showing either party imo. But they certainly have taken a side, they've shown us time and again which side.
There's no equivalent service. :( I certainly don't openly endorse or recommend Google products though. And I'll do everything I can to elect progressives who will limit their bullshit.
I haven't seen the homepage for youtube in years. Still, pretty shit of them to take the money for this.
People can and are probably thinking of ways to game the recommendation algorithms for the weeks and days leading up to the election. This is probably part of most political organizations' digital strategy with respect to video based platforms like FB and YT.
Looking forward to a books/news articles written (assuming we live that long) with them giving interviews like, "We thought we were doing the right thing." trying to re-write history because of how villianous they will look in those books. At when the big banks fuck with our way of life they aren't trying to sell us on how they are a force for good.

Probably not. Trump has raked in 100's of millions of $$$ every quarter for awhile now. During impeachment, he received $154m for the 4th quarter 2019.
I know Trump barely knows what YouTube is, but how does he manage to keep people on the payroll who do know what YouTube is? Isn't his basic approach to anything tech "You're a nerd! That's loser stuff! I don't work with losers! Go find me some jocks to stuff this nerd in the locker, nerd!"
I'm not sure Google has ever disclosed if YouTube is profitable. Rumor was it was break even or approaching profitability. So not sure that's the argument you want to go with.

That's ridiculously low for something they compare to a Super Bowl ad, on a website that three quarters of adult Americans use, for a whole day. 30-second spots during this year's Super Bowl cost 5.6 million dollars. For a 30-sec spot during the bathroom break, versus 24 hours for something everyone visiting the homepage will see, and something that will help decide our next president. Google is being bought for the rich people equivalent of peanuts.
Watch them find a way to disable it by Election Day because this world sucks.
Profit seems to be a perfectly legitimate motive. Even if YouTube is operating at a loss, they want to achieve profitability.

I don't regret a single moment ad blocking Youtube, Twitch, or any other of these shitty companies sites. Fuck them.
1 million dollars to plaster ads on Youtube's front page for a whole day during election day is chump change and a steal. Youtube is one of the most viewed websites on the Internet and most of the populace does not use ad blockers. It is obvious Google wants to Trump to win and is only charging him a token price so they don't seem biased.
