There's no way the Trump presidency ends without him attempting to incite violence. Cohen was right - there will not be a peaceful transfer of power.

There's s reason the gop is trying to circumvent the people by stuffing the courts and gutting many governmental offices. All dictators are truly cowards at heart.

This is obviously a terrifying and dangerous thing for the supposedly democratically elected leader of any country to say, but please remember that Trump is fuckin coward and has never ever in his life backed up his tough talk with actions.

if only we could say the same about his followers. thats th point isnt it? to rile those mindless fucks up?

How much support do you think he needs? I'll be he just needs a dozen high ranking individuals to maintain a hold on the direction of the military.

While many service members may lean right... I don't think any of them have any desire to go against the constitution, which is what they're sworn to protect. There have already been plenty of chances for the military to "fall in line" with his bullshit, and it hasn't yet manifested (to my knowledge).

The military's families would be caught up in such a conflict. There's no fucking way they would chance that for some dude who lives in a gold tower eating 10 scoops of ice cream while they're in fucking deserts eating powder out of bags or worse. The country would crumble in an instant

The Secret Service escorts him out of the White House once the new President is sworn in.

Trump is a coward and will always fold in a direct confrontation.

Yeah I'm curious if some people think we live in a Tom Clancy novel or something. Trump loses the election, says "military come stop them" and then what? The US Army just decides we're going to march on the capital and start arresting Democrats? He calls his biker buddies... and... what?

Does Trump think hes Brad Wesley or something?

that's sweet that you'll think it'll be that easy. he's going to drag it out and won't accept the outcome if its not in his favor.

No he won't. And none of his "tough" supporters will do shit. Could a stray crazy pull some shit? Sure. But thats the extent. Stop giving this dipshit and the right wing more power than they have.

This type of talk is bad and people shouldnt downplay it no matter how cowardly you think Trump is, because all this is is a fishing expedition for another MAGA bomber, and they are out there.

From a historical perspective, is this worthy of congressional censure? I feel like it is, but I honestly don't know what censure has been used for in the past.

Time to take the fucker down. Impeach this wannabe dictator, this shit is so far out of control. He's passively throwing threats at citizens. The fuck is this president? Get him out of there, an embarrassment this country shouldn't be able to live down for hundreds of years.

You know.... that the American people haven't taken to the streets in fully armed riots demanding the Presidents impeachment quite surprises me, since the whole stick of owning all that goddamn firepower that they have and is so fuckin' proud of that they wont stop banging (often literally) on about it was to "fight over-reaching/fascistic governments".

And yet here is one and instead of wanting to fight it, lots of those gun nuts wanna join it.

He'll leave if people vote his ass out -- Secret Service will ensure that. But this type of thing does definitely rile up individuals to do things like Charlottesville or send bullshit in the mail. Incredibly reckless.

People act like Trump will drag his heels if he loses the next election.

Personally I suspect that he didn't want to win the first one and would be delighted to get the hell out.

The oval office is the only thing stifling the dozens of investigations into him, I wouldn't be surprised if he plans to die in office to avoid charges and potential punishment.

Just what I was going to say. Leaving the presidency means becoming a citizen again. Once the GOP is not around to pull the levers of government to protect him and themselves in turn, he has a higher likelihood of genuinely answering for his crimes. The reason he's saying this and the reason Cohen said what he said is that within Trump's inner circle they know that they owe Republicans for desperately protecting him from the consequences of being a scumbag and to lose that protection will be devastating.

The secret service is sworn to protect the president of the United States. If he still is it, why wouldn't they just wait it out when he demands his infinite recount instead of performing some kind of rag tag coup?

This is honestly extremely worrying. He's pretty much saying point blank that if anyone tries to remove him from power that he's not going down without a literal fight.

In theory, this should be possible. However, I think why the Dems are on eggshells is that they're not sure how far to push him before he does something everyone will regret to spite his enemies. They don't want to make things worse or allow him to become a real dictator.

It's very concerning what he'll say/do if he loses 2020. If the vote is in any way close he will definitely not concede. He's also got from Nov-Jan. to try to pull something once he realizes he's lost.

On Jan 20 of 2021, the secret service will be protecting the next president of the United States - not Trump, if he loses the election.

The inauguration is just a ceremony. Power switches to the winner of the election regardless of what trump (assuming he loses said election) says or wants.

I.e. doesn't matter if he concedes or not. If he loses the election, he loses.

Sounds ominously dictatorial. But, honestly, I think Trump is ultimately a coward. So it would depend on how scary the circumstances are for him.

You need powerful people to believe the election was fairly lost. If there's one thing that Resetera should've learned over the last two years, it's how powerful self deception can be for a Republican. I feel like you guys are really underestimating how fluid the rules are and how fragile democracy can be.

If Trump says the elections were fishy and that we're going to take some time to make sure everything's squared away, now it's the Democrats that are being emotional and hot headed when they take to the streets. Of course they're angry, we're looking into their election fraud. Is this how an innocent party acts? Etc

While the threat is there history has shown it's a very low risk of occurring. Americans are docile and complacent, including Trumpers.

That's the bad thing. Maintaining power isn't hard, you just have to stand around with some big guys with guns.

It's the other side that has to be more than a passive observer.

Like I said, the US does not act like that. If it did the Socialists and Anarchists wouldn't just be saying "revolution" we'd be seeing it, but nada. The drive isn't there.

Huh? The man is the commander in chief, if a handful of high ranking military officials side with him, the revolution has to come from the other side. And you're right, it's not there.

Well, ok I don't see many people dying for him, there will always be some unhinged idiots out there.

There's been a pretty decent chunk of unhinged idiots out there, tbh. Right-wing domestic terror has been on the rise for years now. Before Trump even. Fox, talk radio and right wing politicians know what they're doing. And they're happy to radicalize their base. The end goal is to stall America down entirely and create their specific vision. They do it through scapegoating minorities, dehumanizing them and leftists and encouraging violence. They do this knowingly and frankly the right-wing as a whole is the biggest threat to America.
I'm not even a Nationalist, hate Nationalism. But they are an active threat to the future livelihoods of millions of innocent people and frankly the world itself given how fascism behaves. Not even getting into the danger they pose on an environmental level.

It doesn't matter how he meant it. Have you ever said something stupid to your wife or girlfriend? You didn't mean it the way she took it, but you still apologize anyway because you care about your words. Trump doesn't behave that way. He'd say "well, she shouldn't have taken it that way". That's the insidious factor here. Trump does what so many people that are scum bags do (like how we see people with huge twitter followers that attach people online), he talks in a way so he has deniability. So if someone acts violently based on his words he can say "I didn't tell them to do that."

I'm tired of people always clutching their pearls when he does things like this and asking "Where is the bottom?! What will he do next?" There is no bottom. This is who he is. My mom always used to say when someone shows you who they are, believe them. It seems like every day I listen to the radio or watch the news and you can see how Trump has broken most peoples' brains. Most news organizations can't seem to grasp that this is WHO TRUMP IS. And to an extent I can't blame them for that because even the idiots that get elected still have some respect in regards to what their position means. Trump doesn't.

Also, in regards to his threat of violence,I know plenty of gun owners that are liberals. We have guns too. lol
