As the prospect of a government shutdown hangs over Washington, Donald Trump will travel to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Friday, where he plans to host a one-year anniversary of his inauguration that costs $100,000 for a pair of tickets.

As Bloomberg's Jennifer Jacobs reports, Trump wanted to throw a year anniversary of his victory last November, but was instead on trip to Asia.

Trump is expected to arrive in Florida on Friday afternoon, just hours before a government shutdown will be triggered if Congress fails to pass a spending bill. Meanwhile, the White House doesn't even have a full-time director running the agency responsible for coordinating a government shutdown.

Again this is probably Trump's biggest reason for becoming president. He will suck people dry.

Will this cost taxpayer money?
Yes, every trip to Mar-a-lago is crazy expensive. There's sure to be added costs of some sort for any type of large social gathering. He's already ran the secret service broke.

New: Government official says White House alerted them within the hour that Trump's trip to Mar-a-Lago is canceled – reflection of rising odds of shutdown. Official says the trip is off, period. (@jeffzeleny)

RNC official said they are determining what will become of fundraiser gala at Mar-a-Lago -- Trump could be beamed in via video or event could be rescheduled, but many people are already in or en route to Palm Beach

How does the government shut down when the GOP control it all? They can't negotiate with....themselves?

Twitter doesn't work at many people's place of work. Can you please copy/paste the text?

Thanks.

Thanks everyone.

Mindblowing that they would even try setting up something like this when they had a deadline looming with a possible gov. shutdown if nothing passed.

How stupid are these people?

CNN is also saying his trip has been cancelled, though the article itself reads more like it's just up in the air currently.

This quote in particular made me laugh, roll-my-eyes, and become annoyed, all in one package!

CNN's Jim Acosta reported Thursday that White House staffers were mulling the idea that Trump could use Twitter later to signal that the federal government will not close down.

The idea is that if the Senate passes the continuing resolution to keep the government open Friday, the President could then tweet that he will sign the continuing resolution. That would be an indication the government is open, even if he signs the actual bill at a later time.

Oh boy, Trump could swoop in and save the day with a fucking tweet, what a brilliant, novel idea!

2/3erds majority.

They were using special rules in order to only need 51 votes, but that has a time limit which expired in December.

even with the special rule, they don't have the votes (just the gop). Graham won't vote on a short term bill (and I think also 2 other persons), from what I read yesterday.

How much money does a trump make on every mar-a-lago trip with officials and other government people renting rooms and such?

Anyone ever make some calculations?

their spin is that the democrats won't play ball, when it is in fact they won't play ball. when you're the majority control of all 3 branches of government, the onus is on you to compromise if need be.
