Mitt Romney
.@POTUS has put forth a reasonable, good faith proposal that will reopen the government and help secure the border. I look forward to voting for it and will work to encourage my Republican and Democratic colleagues to do the same.

really think these racist mother fucking pseudo-Nazis are going to offer permanent protection? I want what ever you're smoking.
Way to miss the point.

The politically savvy move would have not been to frame it as *adjective* protection right at the start. Of course they wouldn't offer it, but they'd get gullible media types to proclaim the virtues of the deal.

Of course they are, but they also influence gullible low information citizens, which happen to comprise the vast majority.

In going for this method, they aren't going to get much out of this ploy at all.

Fuck no, I don't. But it shifts the public discourse in that direction. Suddenly, talking heads everywhere are saying "Temporary isn't enough", weighing in with all kinds of inane takes proposing their notions of an acceptable compromise, instead of sticking to the correct narrative of Republicans continuing to hold the nation hostage over a wall. (See this thread, for example.) Subsequently, the voters lose the narrative too and lose track of who is really responsible and what's most important here.

It does Dem solidarity on this issue no good at all to give President Shitbag's disingenuous offers the satisfaction of discussing them. NO is all the response that is needed. Glad to see Pelosi determined to keep the narrative in focus on this.

Hahaha Romney. Look at him sucking up to the clown who shamed him. Also "good faith", that's hilarious. Trump hasn't done anything in good faith in his life, ever.

The Democrats shouldn't make any counter offers. "No negotiation until the government is reopened." is a good message, as it says that the shutdown itself is unacceptable.

Pelosi preemptively said no and now Schumer is doing the same, also there is no reason to think that any of Dems would break rank even when Trump asked them to.

NBC News
Senate Minority Leader Schumer on President Trump's new proposal: "It was the President who singled-handedly took away DACA and TPS protections in the first place – offering some protections back in exchange for the wall is not a compromise but more hostage taking."

Wasn't Buffoon offered $25BN a year ago for similar concessions and he turned it down? Now he is begging for $5BN. The art of the deal, indeed.

It'd be hilarious if this so called "compromise" didn't even pass the republican controlled senate lol

It won't and Trump knows it. This dog and pony show today was all for headlines and to try to put the ball in the Democrat's court. Now we will see Fox News with the headlines "Democrats reject Trump's deal to open Government; Dems hate working people"

Actually, if Ann Coulter is a predictor Fox News may start crying about how 'Trump caves, offers amnesty to illegals.'

Trump destroyed DACA and TPS for some countries. His offer is to return them without fixing them is fucking joke. Now if he offered a permanent solution where there is a pathway for DACA and TPS holders to get citizenship or residency, that's another matter. I wouldn't be upset if they give him the wall then. But it would still be a big fucking waste of money. But I would rather people get to stay here safely.

So Trump slashes DACA / TPS protections and expects Dems to cave when he offers temporary solutions to fix the messes he created? Fuck this guy

Yamiche Alcindor @Yamiche

NEW: VP Pence, Mick Mulvaney, Sec Nielsen & Jared Kushner held a meeting w/ reporters to make the case that the president's proposal deserves a chance & that Dems should take it up. They say Senate & WH is working on wording of the bill and McConnell plans to bring it to a vote.

Yamiche Alcindor @Yamiche

VP Pence pushing back on conservative backlash: "This is not an amnesty bill….There is no amnesty in the president's proposals. There is no pathway to citizenship." He added that that President Trump's proposal is a "sincere effort" to make a compromise.

Stirring more shit.

He thinks framing it as sincere will help it pass muster? With anybody?

So Pence is telling the world that this "compromise" is meaningless. Thanks, idiot.

When their base consists of ignorant racist assholes there shouldn't be any surprise that they are facing backlash from their own.

lol @ Pence saying that Trump's compromise is literally nothing to calm down the racists. Democrats should definitely consider the "deal."
