Turn 10 Studios has expanded its art team with lead developers and veteran industry personnel who've previously worked on top-tier gaming projects such as Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games, as well as Madden NFL and Star Wars Battlefront from Electronic Arts and Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft – all bringing their expertise and strong opinions on the Forza franchise to Turn 10 Studios with one main ambition, to create the biggest and best Forza Motorsport game in the history of the franchise.
Right now, the Seattle-based developer is bigger than it's ever been in its history, and together, they're working on their most ambitious Forza project yet. Turn 10 confirmed in March that it would be finally "shifting its weight" onto the next all-new installment into the Forza Motorsport franchise, and on the latest edition of its Forza Monthly broadcast show, the developer shared its "first news" on the upcoming game as it undergoes conceptual stages.

"I talked a little bit about adding talent to the studio. Right now, our team is bigger than it's ever been in our history, and again, we've gotten a lot of support from the studio to build the kind of team that we need to make this ambitious project – and I'm going to do some name dropping," Lee says, excitedly. "Just on my art team alone we have veterans and leads from Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead 2, Assassin's Creed, Madden, Battlefront 2."
"You can imagine what they bring with them, and it's not just their technical expertise, but they have more efficient work flows – they've done this before," he continues. "They hated doing it this way and they'd like to fix it, and they're bringing great practices with them, they're bringing their creativity with them, and they're bringing their very strong opinions as Forza fans with them – which I love. I came in to the studio a couple years ago as a fan of the game, never having worked on a racing game. But knowing what I really, really wanted from the game, and I feel like we need that. Our development process is kind of coming from a fan's perspective as well, which is I think a really cool thing."

Looks like those devs are for art. Intresting hires.

I question if we're going to get a traditional Forza Motorsport title again or something a bit different. I could see one game being launched next generation as a GaaS that's iterated upon, especially since it'll be launching into Game Pass. That factor makes the prospect of having Forza Motorsport 8, 9 and 10 in the service a bit strange, no? On the topic of Forza, I'd also like to see the Horizon franchise drop numbered titles and just use locales like "Forza Horizon: Japan" for example.

Driving MMO :o

Out of car experience where you setup your races and have mini games show & show off your avatar. The driving world would be like Forza Horizon mixed with closed circuit races from the mainline game.

I hope they keep the driving physics GTA5 person far far from their studio. ;)

Interesting stuff. Can't wait to see what they are working on. It's also so good to see MS investing so much into 1P. :)

Mainline Forza really needs it. Time to move on and bring something fresh or do people still dig those sort of games ?

I hope the Motorsport games start introducing more custom tracks based on real world locales as opposed to having primarily real life race tracks.

A bit like how PGR3 and 4 had big 1:1 city maps and just blocked off intersections to create circuits?

Side thought: I wonder if they're getting GTA and AC people to scan and model more real world buildings?

Unless the series sees a major overhaul, from car collector sim lite, to something actually deserving of the Motorsport name, I don't think I much care.

Who am I kidding. I'll buy it for the car porn regardless.

Would love to see a whole career mode in it. Like a big one.

Yeah, I found the career mode in 7 pretty decent but if they doubled down on that mode with further finetuning/refinements, i'm sure they could nail that.

FH4 definitely felt like that. The skill trees for each car in that game definitely felt like something that we'd see more in future Forza games.

The talk about how they are designing the next Forza game during their last livestream was really interesting

End of last gen Forza schools Gran Turismo in the sound department. So Polyphony goes head hunting and hires sone of Turn 10's sound engineers.

Fast forward to this gen and the opposite happens but this time Gran Turismo shitting all over Forza in when it comes to art. So Turn 10 turns around and hires Madden and GTA artists?

Forza may not be as pretty as GT but it's a damn sight prettier than those games listed.

Lmao, what? Besides the fact that rockstar has some of the most talented artists working for them, you can't make direct comparisons between Forza, GTA and Madden when it comes to art/graphics... like, jesus, that's not how it works. And besides, "shitting all over"? I think the hyperbole could be turned down a notch there..

I'm hoping for a drastic total overhaul of the lighting, the handling model and the steering wheel/FFB implementation. Because currently Forza Motorsport is way, waaaaaay behind on all these.

I'm counting on T10 not to disappoint. I want this to be my favorite racing franchise again.

Let us choose which cars we race against, like individually like I could in Forza Motorsport 4 in private lobbies. PLAYER CHOICE

Thanks!

There's not much point in continuing numbered Forza games, which is why we're not seeing FM8 this year. Next generation I fully expect to see a "Forza Motorsport" on gamepass that is continuously updated with cars added. Meanwhile Playground games will transition to "Forza Horizon: Location".

I wonder if T10 will decide to include one of the biggest parts of racing which add's a strategic aspect and is a major part of real life racing?

I am of course talking about Pit Stops. Yeah, for those not familiar with the FM Series, T10 seems to think Pit Stops are not part of racing as their implementation of this aspect has progressively gotten worse with each version. The best representation T10 has done is the original FM on the original Xbox. Yeah, it is that bad! Hope they do it right this time...but after 7 mainline FM games I am not holding my breath.

I hope they do something other than just driving the same(ish) group of cars around the same tracks. They are quite talented, so I'd like to see them get creative. Make the next one a spiritual sequel to PGR or something different that is still unique from the Horizon games.

Qualifying and flag rules would be nice too.

I've always wanted this, like the Toca game that released years and years ago. At least a story career mode that allows you to develop a rival or two and attempt to leave behind a legacy. It would be somewhat cool.

I also hope it's a new engine, Forza 7 looked phenomenal but I feel as if their physics engine has hit its peak.

I'm excited about them taking more time on the game. This and Halo being given time to breathe is pretty amazing.

I spent a lot of time on every Forza Motorsport game (bar the first one), so I can't wait for the next one. I hope the generation skip and the extra development time means they are going full ambition on this one, as the one big fault of this franchise is how aimless the progression system and career feels. In every other aspect it's leagues beyond any other simcade racer, it's not even a contest.

I'd like to see a new ambitious Career mode that resembles the dramatic, story-driven modes seen in sports games this gen. One that's so big in scope that it lasts 20-30 hours.

But I'd still like an option to move through the game's content like 3 and 4, too.
