I don't know what to tell you if this is what you believe.

So the only way you think Vincent would be neutral is for him to tell people not to buy OLEDs (or sternly warn them) because of something that might happen (with no evidence to back that assumption) in 7-10 years?

And this is Vincent, the guy loves LCDs. I don't understand why you think he has any bias towards OLEDs, unless you have been watching a certain nutjob on youtube that hates Vincent.

You also skipped the fact that the average consumer is not a heavy gamer, and will mostly just watch movies and TV shows during those 7-10 years. How is that person going to get burn in without the static elements on the screen? The whole TV will just age relatively close during those 7-10 years. Just go look at the rtings test, the mixed usage TV is at 5000 hours with no burn in, the TV with a little cable channel logo is at 5000 hours with no burn in. do you know how long it would take the average person to reach 5000 hours on each specific usage? Rtings themselves calculated this and came up with 10 years and that person would still not have burn in.

The enthusiast/gaming side on the other hand are the ones most susceptible to burn in and its still is a very minimal % of people getting it.
Sometimes its just not worth repeating to those who will never accept isn't no longer a major issue.

Venom is the one Sony UHD release I haven't been impressed by regarding PQ. The movie is also a mess so that didn't help.

Man, I'm thinking about returning the Vizio P series 55" I just got. I've been playing a handful of different kinds of PS4 games, tried some 4K videos and it's just.... not grabbing me? I haven't had that "Wow" moment I was thinking I was going to have and combined with the input problems I've been having with the set, as well as issues when trying to use it as my PC monitor like HDR randomly being unavailable or not being able to switch to 4k 60hz makes me think that maybe I should just wait until the next set of consoles come out and at that point I might be able to upgrade my PC enough to play any games on that in 4K as well too since I'm only rocking a 1070Ti.
Same re: wow moment. I'm on the 65. Hoping it's just my settings but I am just not sure :/

Would be encouraging if manufacturers themselves would view this as a trivial issue and covered it under warranty.

As it stands now, they are hestitant to do so. Just as we are hestitant to go all in on oled TVs.

But they are going all in on OLED, even Samsung is getting into OLED after years of downplaying the advantages OLEDs have over LCD.

LG is selling every panel they make and is converting a lot of their LCD factories into OLED ones.

Yep this decision will come down to you, all I can say is that the way you describe what you will use the TV sounds perfect for an OLED, but if you prefer the peace of mind, then that's understandable too.

Aaand... I've just bought the LG C8 55" >_<

I could not continue with these doubts, I had to choose today and I threw myself into the void, hahahaha.

The TV will arrive on Friday and, of course, I will comment my impressions :)

Thanks a lot to all of you, mates! I hope I've made the best decision!!!

If at some point LG or Sony or one of these other manufactures decide to cover burn-in under warranty then I'll probably get another one. But it's most likely something they'll never cover because they can't control the user's viewing habits.

I would love to get an oled. Avoided plasma tvs and gone with LCD tvs.

Just when I get lukewarm on the idea of getting an oled tv, I visit a respected forum posting below pictures of defects and all of them calling it common and expecting a better screen on the exchange.

And, once again, I am left waiting for ces 2019 to see new LCD tv offerings, as I am due for an upgrade in the second half of 2019.
20180915_222404-jpg.1067125

Well that picture is not representative of the population. Sure there are some like this and I would exchange that. There's also a lot without issues that don't post or say anything. So believe what you want on how many have "defects".

Thanks for answering all of my questions lately. Bought the FZ800 today!

Everything looks really, really, really good so far. Great colours and picture depth - I much prefer Panasonic's picture over LG's. Can't complain about the uniformity either. Not perfect, but pretty good - hope it stays that way. Thanks again.

Samsung display reveal Quantum dot glass. It's their next QLED improvement.

Some specs from that thread

Resolution 8k

120FPS

DCI-P3 96%

typical luminance 700 nits

applied the FALD peak brightness 2000nits

Local Dimming Zone in 82 inch = 880

720 Dimming Zone in 65 inch

contrast ratio 1:120000

And apparently some type of wide viewing angle.

Looks like it will debut in 2019. Hopefully it finds it way to 4k sets as well.

That's great that you finally found a TV that fits your needs, post pics when you get a chance!

Got my Linker today, kinda surprised by how small it is, for some reason I was expecting something the size of a guitar pedal. Anyway, got it and goblue working fine, but is there anyway to store multiple custom EDIDs to switch easily between Gatsby and PC? I thought I read in this thread that you could but I can't figure out how to do it or find the post. Thanks.

No problem at all, glad you like it! Let us know how you get on.

I'm no expert with settings, but I did find that increasing the lower gamma IRE helped bring out some shadow detail. Some modes needed brightness +1 too. I mostly use Pro 1/2 or the Cinema modes. I left the rest of the settings as-is - the picture looked great to me otherwise.

I'm new to this OLED jazz, but every time I watch something in 4K UHD my jaw hits the floor. This thing even breathes new life in to 1080p content - I don't have much to compare but it seems to upscale really well. I guess the colour accuracy goes a long way too.

So far highlights have been:

Blade Runner 2049
Forza 7
Altered Carbon (not a great show but it is a UHD showcase that feels almost designed for OLED - lots of dark scenes with bright highlights and colours)

If you want some more OLED porn, checkout "The Expanse", sci fi space show, really good. Amazon offers it with a Prime subscription, available in 4k, just have to search for the 4k version via the web and add it to your watch list. I hate how Amazon hides the 4k versions of show via the app lol.

Only the first two seasons are free on Prime...sucks, I love the show but I have WAAAAY too much to watch and way too many subscriptions to pay for those seasons

Ah, The Expanse was in my queue due to other recommendations, but I had no idea it was available in 4k on Prime. That's just bumped it up to first place, thanks!

I just bought the first season on blu ray :). I have only watched the first episode but that convinced me to buy the blu ray and not watch anymore episodes before it arrived. It should be here by the weekend so I know what my weekend leisure time is.

I also have the 2nd and 3rd Avengers movies to watch in 4K. I watched the first one this evening in 4K and was really surprised by how much of an upgrade it was over 1080p. I hope Disney don't take too long to bring out their other movies in 4K. I have the Hulk and Thor Ragnarok but the Iron Man and Captain America sets plus Doctor Strange in 4K would make me a happy bunny.

First Avengers is full screen no black bars, it looks amazing on OLED.

Hopefully they release the rest of the movies in 4k UHD, even if it just upscaling.

Mainly use for netflix/blu ray and gaming. My budget is around 4500 monthly

For mixed usage and with that budget you can go all out with an OLED.

What size were you looking for? With $4500 (assuming you're in the US) I think you could even get a 65" Sony A9F.

A 65" LG C8 is around $2700 now if you want to save some money tho lol.

Well looks like my ancient TV is finally starting to really drop dead. I'll be in the market for a new TV soon but I should probably just wait till the time before the Superbowl as I believe some of the better sales go on in that time period. Any nice 55" OLED's for around 2 grand now?

Just a heads up, Best Buy has the 55" C8 on sale right now for $1700, you probably won't get a much better deal than that even during Superbowl week unless LG does something crazy with their pricing.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-55-...rt-4k-uhd-tv-with-hdr/6202832.p?skuId=6202832

Your other option at that price range and size would be the Sony A8F, but that is priced much higher for a TV of similar quality.

I'm looking for a 60" and something that will read my hard drives. Only tv that has ever been able to read them so far is a Samsung.

After what felt like an eternity I have now joined the 4K crew! Bagged the following A/V bits...

Sony KD43XF8096BU (ONLY size I had space for).
Panasonic DPUB820 BR player.
Sony STR-DN1080 A/V receiver.
No need to replace my Q Acoustics speakers.

Chuffed with everything!

Got the Sony 65" A8F for a week now, and I love it. IQ, sound, everything is amazing.

Like many others, I could never go back to LCD.
same here but 55". very lucky with the panel with zero issues! i still have to try 4K contents but i'm already amazed by the p.q. of the blu ray movies and games.
a question. is it ok using hdr on 1080p games (like Switch)? i've tried but colors are to strong!

It does indeed :). IIRC it is a 2K source upscaled to 4K. They did a really good job. Ultron tonight and Infinity War tomorrow night, if I can stand to wait that long.

So, funny things on the last page, "console war vibes" was the best.

Just to be clear, I did not shout the loudest I did not bash your oleds, I don't have to "own" a set to speak about technical limitations/differences and I did not write about Burn In. I'm sorry if it was written poorly. But i wrote it extremely cautious because i knew what will happen, and it happened nonetheless.

But I hope it's possible to discuss diffrences between brands and with that, problems or limitations between them. Without the need to defend "your" set, to see it objectively.

Static_Void Just called them, they are returning the money.

There is not a single peron here, OLED owner or not, that will try to say OLED is without faults.

Samsung wants to charge 3500 for an LED LCD? LOL good luck bros.

I think we're at the point of diminishing returns with LCD tech. LCD's have gotten incredibly complicated, the cost, and Samsung prepping for OLED production seems to reflects that.

Anyone know the requirements for HDR/DV over HDMI? Would like to try and use my 2018 iPad Pro to stream iTunes content to my C8. There are loads of USB C to HDMI cables on Amazon but none that explicitly mention HDR or DV support (just 4K @ 60Hz). The only adapter that seems to list compatibility is the Belkin USB C to HDMI adapter but £49.99 seems a little steep

It needs to be HDMI 2.0, but I wouldn't count on it working. Some of those adapters are actually converting DisplayPort to HDMI internally and the version of DP it is dealing with is not new enough

I'm not sure what the point of this post is, to be honest. It's like you're continuously calling out OLED owners for being defensive but every single one of us has mentioned that we recognize its flaws. I am a very happy OLED owner and I have issues with the tech (like I have issues with my LCD and with the Panasonic Plasma I own as well).

Yeah, all I see is people trying to dispel FUD around OLEDs. Nothing wrong with that. Just making sure that people know the facts when deciding what TV to buy

Thanks. That makes sense and it's probably why the Belkin adapter is the only one that works right now. Will wait for the Chinese knock offs to trickle out so prices start to come down
