Just watched the last episode of the season for AP Bio. I really hope it gets a second season. There is a ton of potential with that set up at the end of the episode. I think I would enjoy watching a reverse "My Name Is Earl".
It's pretty amazing how out there CBS All Access is compared to its broadcast brother. And so far they're 2 for 2 on the drama side with Star Trek Disco and The Good Fight. Hope this delivers.
Auntie Beeb, pls. Of course it is exclusive, it's your goddamn show. But I digress, there is a murderers row of talent attached to this Stephen Frears (Philomena, Florence Foster Jenkins) is directing, Russel T Davies (Queer as Folk, Doctor Who) is writing, Ben Whishaw (London Spy, Spectre), and Hugh Grant (it's Hugh Grant) are starring. Not to mention that the real life events that this is based on is an amalgamation of things I'm into. No definite word on when it's airing, just "soon". Well, "soon" can't come too soon for me.
A little disappointing that it isn't Katey Sagal singing the cover.
I had, uh, opinions on it when I caught it in February:Is Britannia worth watching? I want to know because a sexy full figured woman, with big hair on the Prime page caught my eye.
My odyssey of new shows in February that started airing in January continues with Britannia. It is every bit as competent as you'd expect from the people who decided this would be an appropriate theme tune to the show:
Whereas Mosaic was intentionally breaking convention and creating a less linear narrative Britannia does it through ineptitude. For a show that wants so badly to be Game of Thrones it learned nothing from that show introductory episode. Specifically the bit about it being introductory as in supposed to introduce you to the characters, setting, and plot. Instead the opening episodes spends 30 minutes jumping from location to location, and character to character spending so little time with each that you do not know who or what you are supposed to care about. And I didn't care about anything.
Adding to that is a rafter of decisions that are just downright terrible; let's shoot a good quarter of our first episode with vaseline on the lens, let's have terrible editing not just structurally but also moment to moment (e.g. in action scenes), let's have terrible dialogue, let's have a terrible child actor as one of the main characters, let's use that terrible child actor and try and create a mis-matched road adventure like Arya and The Hound with the two "bantering" with aforementioned terrible dialogue, and then you have how the show handles nudity (only objectifies the women).
It is trash.
It is nonsense.
It is incompetent.
It is worse than Starz' Camelot
And I'm probably going to binge all of it.
Wasn't all wrong.
Update on:
It's airing on Sunday May 20th at 9pm on BBC One so this:
Wasn't all wrong.
Any thoughts on Handmaiden's Tale?
I loved Elizabeth Moss in Mad Men though I had less-than-stellar feelings about the foreign film The Handmaiden (I have no idea if they are closely related). I feel like adding another good drama right now. I'm watching Westworld Season 2 right now, which while I'm not thrilled with as a show, does okay as a filler.
I'm at work tonight, but it's DVRing and I can't wait to watch it tomorrow. Love Cumberbatch and love most of what Showtime puts out.I think I'm gonna watch Patrick Melrose on Showtime tonight because it's been getting good reviews. Anyone else?

And luckily for me HBO Nordic has it. Well I say luckily, HBO Nordic's Mondays (i.e. day after US airing) right now are fucking insane:Will Watch:
Patrick Melrose - I'm a simple man, if it has Benedict Cumberbatch in it I will most likely watch it. Luckily for me it looks like pretty good show.
The Handmaiden is completely unrelated. The TV series is based off of a classic book of the same name.Any thoughts on Handmaiden's Tale?

Somehow my plan to re-up Amazon Prime so I could watch Diablo Guardian has resulted me in watching (so far) two and a half seasons of Bosch, which is a compulsively watchable series with reasonable runtimes, season lengths, and an unfortunate affinity for using the phrase "off the reservation" which I assume is a holdover from its roots as a book you'd buy in an airport in the 90s.
In fairness, The Handmaiden is also an adaptation from a book by a fairly noted feminist. Incidentally the book also got adapted into a rather good BBC TV series that retains the book's name; Fingersmith. The Handmaiden is completely unrelated. HBO Nordic's Mondays (i.e. day after US airing) right now are fucking insane:
Westworld
Fear the Walking Dead
Trust
The Arrangement
Silicon Valley
Real Time with Bill Maher
O Negocio
Barry
Billions
Killing Eve
Wyatt Cenac's Problem Areas
Last Week Tonight
and now Patrick Melrose
Thank christ I gave up on Westworld.
I think someone actually exclaims "but he gets results" in either season 3 or 4.
I'm so thankful for them putting The Good Fight on Sundays. So sure the US has #MurderLadySundays*, but we have #MurderMeWithTVMondays
All of the discussion I've seen around Patrick Melrose on Twitter has been about whether it was soup suds or toilet paper up Cumberbatch's ass
It's just one of the best tv shows I've ever seen. Top quality stuff.
Patrick Melrose was wild. Cumberbunch was great (maybe just a tad over the top) and I liked the way it was shot. Not sure if I want every episode to be quite that manic, but it was a very interesting start nonetheless!
Yeah, Cobra Kai is great. I need to find some time to watch the last three episodes of the season, but there's so much stuff airing right now that it's a struggle.I just watched the first two episodes of Cobra Kai and instantly purchased the entire series. I didn't expect it to be as good as it is.
Directed by the guy who did most of Deutschland '83!Patrick Melrose was wild. Cumberbunch was great (maybe just a tad over the top) and I liked the way it was shot. Not sure if I want every episode to be quite that manic, but it was a very interesting start nonetheless!
Patrick Melrose is legit as hell. Pretty stunning physicality to the central performance of Benedict Cumberbatch, the writing is sharp, and top tier direction and editing work.
Directed by the guy who did most of Deutschland '83!
Always happy to see more people discover this show. Best thing I've watched all year, and wouldn't be surprised if that holds true throughout.
Well episode 4 of season was top tier episode of the whole show so i would continue if i were you.
Haven't watched it yet, but given the quality of the other 13 episodes of the show that's some mighty weak praise.
