And then, another huge shock shows up at their front door: they have an older sister, brilliant geneticist Macy, whom their mother kept a secret all these years! Macy is new in town and doesn't know a soul. Macy is eager to connect with Mel and Maggie, but Mel can't handle another shock, and shuts her out.

With the emotions of all three sisters running high, each of the girls suddenly exhibit impossible new abilities: Mel can freeze time, Maggie starts hearing others' thoughts, and Macy has telekinetic powers. But don't worry, there's a perfectly reasonable explanation... or so says Harry Greenwood, when he gathers the three sisters together to reveal they're actually powerful witches, as was their mother. And he's not really a professor, he's their "Whitelighter," a witch's advisor and guide! Not only that, but Mel was right: their mother's death was no accident - she was murdered by unknown dark forces. It's a lot to take in, but ultimately the sisters accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones... and their new duty to protect humankind from the demons that walk among us... one of whom killed their mother. Set in modern-day New York City, the first season of this serialized drama interweaves "The Three Little Pigs," "Little Red Riding Hood", and "Hansel and Gretel" into an epic and subversive tale of love, loss, greed, revenge, and murder.

Manhunt - ITV (TBD)

5lkBr23.jpg

"Manhunt" is the real life story of how the murder of French National, Amelie Delagrange, on Twickenham Green in August 2004 was eventually linked to the murders of Marsha McDonnell in 2003 and the abduction and murder of Milly Dowler as she travelled home from school in 2002.

Walking home following a night out with friends, 22 years old Amelie was savagely attacked and struck several times on the back of the head with a hammer.

Although relatively experienced in murder investigation, DCI Sutton was assigned to the case by London's Metropolitan Police. Hard working and instinctive, Sutton dedicated himself to finding Amelie's killer. With very little evidence, his painstaking approach and the diligence of his fellow officers gradually led to breakthroughs in the case.

Not to be underestimated, Sutton never ruled out similarities to the murders of Marsha McDonnell and Milly Dowler in the same southwest corner of London.

I'm not sure what I'll be checking out. I'm feeling a bit down, and have felt this way for some time, so the only sure-fire watch is Daredevil S3.

I'll get around to Riverdale, Titans, Making a Murderer, Legacies, Star Wars: Resistance and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. But they'll be added to my queue as I won't get around to them right away.

New stuff I'll be checking out.

Star Trek: Short Treks (CBSAA) - Not exactly "new" since it's an extension of Discovery but I'm in for anything Trek
I Feel Bad (NBC) - I liked the first 2 episodes I watched well enough that I'll watch some more
All American (CW) - The trailer from the Upfronts looked good
Titans (DCU) - Comic show, kinda have to
AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth's History of Horror (AMC) - I love docu-series like this
The Conners (ABC) - I really want to see how the dynamics change without Roseanne
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix) - Hopefully it's enjoyable like Riverdale S1 and not bad like Riverdale S2

EDIT: Oh god I just watched the trailer of Zombie at 17 and it looks so bad. Thank you Ratsky for bringing this into my life. lol

Will Watch:
Star Trek: Short Treks - Disco was very good, and these are going to be short. Ergo, absolutely no reason not to watch them.
Doctor Who - ...Eventually, I did get a bit burned out during the Capaldi years (more from having followed the show since series 2 than any noticeable drop in quality).
The Bisexual - Desiree Akhavan has earned my attention with The Miseducation of Cameron Post, and Appropriate Behavior. Hoping this is good, the trailer didn't say much.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend - Totally ready to have my heart ripped out and stamped on to some absolutely smashing tunes.
Making a Murderer - It's not like I won't watch the followup after being that infuriated after the first one.
Wanderlust - I'll watch Toni Colette in anything. Luckily this looks good.
Bodyguard - Jed Mercurio is one hell of a writer, and the premise is intriguing. That it has gotten good reviews and been an absolute smash hit in the UK does not lessen the hype.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina - Look if I'm going to be a human sacrifice it's going to be to Sally Draper.
Deutschland 86 - The first trailer looked messy as hell, but then again the first season was an enjoyable hot mess.
Tell Me a Story - Speaking of messes. I can't believe this show is real. Bless CBS AA for this.

Might Watch:
The Haunting of Hill House - It looks fine, but eh it's not my genre of choice.
The Romanoffs - I'm going to need reviews for this one. I'm not sold on the premise, and well it being on Amazon and Matthew Weiner getting #metoo'd puts a massive damper on any excitement I had.
Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj - The non fiction Netflix stuff (esp. the comedy/variety ones) have been a mixed bag. Curious as to how this one will turn out.

Dear sweet merciful god/devil/higher being let Sally Draper hurry up with that human sacrifice so that I go before this airs:
The Alec Baldwin Show

Definites: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a show that always delights, and Doctor Who, which hopefully gains new life.
Maybes: Un Extraño Enemigo and Distrito Salvaje, which both sound interesting and with a lighter load than usual this time of year I might find the time.
Already watched: Bodyguard, which infuriated me more than any show this year and burned much of the goodwill earned from Line of Duty.

Didn't realize there is going to be a Blindspot Season 4. Don't think I even finished season 3.

Where's The Blacklist? Is that coming later?

About halfway with Maniac, loving it so far, My brother recommended Norsemen to me, so I might give that a shot as well. The new Castlevania for sure, the first few episodes were really good so I'm curious to see if they can keep it up.

I watched the first 5 minutes of Norsemen last night just to see and it was awesome. I was pleasantly surprised it was in English. Definitely looking forward to watching more.

Will continue watching:

The Good Place
The Man in the High Castle (finally!)
The Walking Dead
The Flash

Okay, that's a lot of trashy CW shows (and The Walking Dead, lol...). I clearly have a problem...

May check out if I'm in the mood:

Huh not too much I'm interested in this month sadly. I'm kind of tired of the Netflix Marvel shows but I'll probably check out Daredevil. Somewhat interested in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina too.

Running shows:
TWD
Stan Against Evil
Daredevil S3 - I might wait until early next year to watch this.

New stuff:
Camping - The characters look obnoxious, but this is par for the course with Konner & Dunham. I didn't know that The Comeback producer was involved.
Into the Dark
The Haunting of Hill House - I'll watch anything by Mike Flanagan.

Not too sure apart from some returning shows. I'm culling more than anything and catching up. Will keep an eye out for what people are hyping and recommending. Nothing new taking my fancy yet.

I watched the first episode, and I almost fell asleep. I hope it gets better. I like Portlandia, but this is almost too mellow.

With you. And to me Armisen's performance in everything is the same. With him it always seems like he's in a sketch.

Ditto. Seemed so forced. Maybe I'll watch one more.

Definitely watch the second episode. You guys haven't seen what the show is yet.

In for the return of CW DC. Namely Legends, Flash, and Arrow. Supergirl is boring to me, and Black Lightning was a little too on the nose at certain points which made me feel uncomfortable. Flash is treading thin ice with me.

Doctor Who

The Walking Dead (at least the premiere)

Daredevil Season 3

Harvey Birdman

Castlevania

Sabrina

Reviews for the first two episodes of The Romanoffs:
Gonna be the best new show of the fall!

IndieWire: Matthew Weiner's Amazon Show Is Shallow, Self-Indulgent, and Far Removed From 'Mad Men'
While the production team has done fine work, from the elegant costuming to lush real-world locations, these episodes don't deserve their length, especially with Weiner's uninspired framings and tepid pacing.
Collider: Matthew Weiner's Amazon Anthology Makes a Case for the Bolsheviks
While there are moments that are genuinely great, and the whole series has a wonderful cinematic quality that can often be dreamy, there is too much that feels less considered, especially regarding the "plight" of its leading men which feels stale even if you generously consider it satire. Ultimately, while the finales for both hours feel targeted to be female-driven and uplifting, neither are earned. Whether that pattern continues throughout the other episodes remains to be seen, but for now — not to get all Bolshevik about it, but — maybe we really don't need The Romanoffs.

You were saying?

Ok so to be fair to it, some reviewers are more positive (but not without caveats):

Vulture (Zoller Seitz): The Romanoffs Follows Privilege All the Way Down
If the first episodes are representative, The Romanoffs is looser and more relaxed than Mad Men in ways that both please and frustrate. The women tend to be beleaguered and sometimes abused; the men weak, petty, and conniving; the sets and costumes sumptuous; and the music (a mix of classical and pop) very effective, if on-the-nose in a way that Mad Men rarely was.

THR: 'The Romanoffs': TV Review
'Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner returns to TV with a star-studded Amazon anthology series full of wild creative ambition and messy missteps.

Variety: TV Review: 'The Romanoffs'
Even when "The Romanoffs" doesn't always click into place, it can still be hypnotizing to watch its gears work to get there.

Rolling Stone (Sepinwall): A Royally Complicated Return
In his much-anticipated (and somewhat fraught) TV comeback, 'Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner achieves moments of brilliance amid unchecked sprawl

Matt Weiner finally getting mixed reviews? Where were these critics during the last couple of boring seasons of Mad Men?

edit: So much stuff to watch this month since CW is back.

I'll be busy, busy, busy. I can't wait to watch Wayward Sisters Legacies. (Too soon?)
