September marks the start of the new fall TV season and also marks the beginning of the end for no less than 8 series - the most final season premieres I've ever seen in one month! It's the beginning of the end I tell ya...

~ Recent Highlights ~

Baskets

Chip Baskets has always dreamed of being a classically trained clown. After flunking out of French clown college he returns home to Bakersfield, California, where he moves in with his mother, Christine, bickers with his twin brother, Dale, longs for his sophisticated Parisian ex-wife, and continues to pursue his professional clowning dream, with the assistance of his friend/assistant/insurance adjuster, Martha.

Claws

At the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon in Central Florida, five diverse, hardworking manicurists try to make ends meet in a staid economy while managing perilous personal lives awash in drama. Amidst all the silk wraps, pedicures and polish treatments, salon owner Desna, who lives with and cares for her mentally ill twin brother, leads a staff that includes best friend Jennifer, now sober and raising two kids from a previous relationship; enigmatic Ann, who provides security for the salon; mild-mannered preppy and ex-convict Polly; and Virginia, who becomes easily bored and impatient with her job. Also hanging around the salon are shady redneck Roller; ambulance coach Bryce, Jennifer's husband who is also newly sober; and Uncle Daddy, a dangerous, deeply Catholic and actively bisexual crime boss.

Jett

"Whoever says crime doesn't pay is doing it wrong." Such is the slogan of world-class thief Daisy "Jett" Kowalski. Fresh out of prison, Jett's retirement plans don't last very long when powerful crime lord Charlie Baudelaire offers her one "final" task in Cuba. The scheme not only reunites Jett with a former flame but sets off a chain of unexpected events that endangers everyone she cares for and pits her against ruthless criminals determined to exploit her skills for their own ends.

Perpetual Grace, LTD

Mysterious young grifter James attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown and his wife, Lillian, who both turn out to be far more dangerous than anticipated.

Pose

Set in the 1980s, `Pose' is a dance musical that explores the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the downtown social and literary scene. Blanca forms a `house', a self-selected family that provides support to LGBTQ youth who have been rejected by their birth families. Damon is a dancer who joins Blanca's house. Together, they compete in the balls -- where house members challenge each other in various categories and are judged on their outfits, attitude, or dance skills -- against Blanca's former house mother, Elektra.

A Confession - ITV (Sep 2)

In 2011, after a night out with friends, 22-year-old Sian O'Callaghan disappeared. When her worried boyfriend reports her missing, Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher begins to place together her last movements.

Believing Sian may still be alive, Fulcher initiates an urgent full-scale search operation and edges closer to a chief suspect, local taxi driver Christopher Halliwell. However, once under arrest, what Halliwell has to say steers the investigation in a completely unforeseen direction, leaving Fulcher on the precipice of a life changing choice between protocol and justice.

'A Confession' raises important questions on how we want our police to behave - should Fulcher be praised as a courageous officer fighting for the life of a missing woman or punished for riding roughshod over the law?

With DI Rachel Carey drafted in to investigate in what could be a career-defining case, she must discover if there is more to the shocking evidence than first meets the eye. Rachel will soon learn that the truth is merely a matter of perspective - before deciding what hers is.

With an adamant Shaun battling with his tormented past in order to clear his name once and for all, The Capture looks at a troubling world of misinformation, fake news, and the extraordinary technological capabilities of the intelligence services. American Horror Story - Keeping expectations low!

Undone - Looks pretty cool.

Marianne looks interesting.

Maybe The Politician, but I can watch so many Ryan Murphy shows before I overdose. Probably next year.

Going to watch Mr. Mercedes early next year because I watched Season 2 in the first half of the year.

I'll watch all the FX stuff, Mr. Mercedes, The Deuce, The Politician and a few others but it's really a fairly light month.

Now October when all the CW stuff comes back...that shit will be crazy.

Thanks for making the topic, as detailed and well presented as usual.

How about adding The Dark Crystal and Carnival Row? I know they both launched August 30th, however I'm sure more people will be watching them in September than bingeing their entire seasons in a day or two, and there are a bunch of other recent shows mentioned here which launched as far back as mid-June or earlier.

As for the new September releases, not much interesting there. Marianne looks most interesting. AHS 1984 too.

I have The Terror, Succession and Preacher all piling up, ready to watch towards the end of the month. There should be 7 or 8 of each ready to view by then.

I only add shows that have fully aired to the highlights section, so I like to give streaming shows a full month after they premiere before listing them. They'll be in next month's section though for sure!

I've rarely hated a commercial as bad as I hated that. It's like this season of SHIELD was already garbage and having to catch snippets of the ad for Stumptown when I was skipping through its commercials breaks made it an even worse viewing experience.

I hope it completely flops.

I'll probably check out Titans S2 but may actually quit it, as the first season was only so decent, and this seem to only add on more superheroes. And I might check out an episode of Wu-Tang and Undone, while I'll definitely get around to the latest seasons of Fresh Off The Boat and The Good Place, but I'll have to catch up with these shows first.

The thing is, I haven't been able to finish a single show this year. I might be off from long-form story-telling these months since I've begun reading books and that takes up some of my spare time.

I did check out 30 minutes of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance yesterday and that was really good. I'm also halfway through Runaways S2, The Boys and only got five episodes left of Doom Patrol.

Finally, a lax month.

The only new show that I am actually anticipating is Evil.

And I might give Warigami(I mean how could you not) and Stumptown(didn't even know this was getting adapted) a shot.

Will Watch:
The Deuce - It's not the best show David Simon has made, but it's still better than like 90% of other shows out there.

Might Watch:
The Capture - It has a bunch of people in it I like, gonna wait for reviews though.
Top Boy - Kinda overlooked Top Boy back when it aired, might make up for it depending on reception.
Unbelievable - The premise makes for a tough watch, so will depend on if I am up for it.
Criminal - It's gonna come down to exectution. The format of it is very intriguing but a good show needs more than just a neat premise/format.

Will probably end up watching despite it looking like garbage because dear lord I have issues when it comes to spy fiction:
The Spy

Oh wow, this is a much lighter month than I expected. Blessed be the TV gods.

Props on the thread.

A lighter month for me, compared to August. Mostly looking forward to Superstore and The Good Place returning.

Curious about Undone on Amazon and Wu-Tang on Hulu.

Most of the new network shows look ehh to me. Might check out Sunnyside or a couple others based on reviews.

Always Sunny. Not seeing much else that catches my interest on there.

The Deuce, Always Sunny, The Good Place, Terrace House, The Politican (always in for the first season of a Ryan Murphy project) and Evil (not at all sold on previews but I trust the Kings).

So excited for the final season of The Good Place. My favorite show on air these currently and will likely end up as one of my all-time favorites. Will check out Disenchantment again too. Not sure what else. Lots of football to watch now!

This is the first time in over 10 years that I haven't even bothered to watch the trailers for this fall's broadcast network crop (which I usually do as soon as they drop during the upfronts). There hasn't been a good new broadcast drama in ages and if there are any good new comedies, I'm sure I'll find out about them from people here (and critics).

I went online to watch them like I normally do in May or whenever and after like a minute of the first one, I was just like "I don't care anymore." 😂 Like you said if there's something good, I'll hear about it.

Took advantage of the free preview and watched Cobra Kai Season 1. Really entertaining series, good pacing and nails the right tone while showing a different perspective of the Johnny character. Also liked most of the kid characters.

Season 2 is also very good. I highly recommend it. Without spoiling anything, the last episode of S2 is absolutely crazy!

I can't wait for season 3.

Obviously gonna be watching The Good Place too, and Law & Order (because I'm a stupid bitch)

I hope Manifest gets canceled before the second season airs. Fuck that show.

Parens = maybe.

Friday, 6
(The Spy – Netflix)
Trailer was interesting, Cohen in a dramatic piece could be cool.

Monday, 9
The Deuce - HBO - 9/8c - Final Season
Highlight of the month. I expect to be wrecked.

Thursday, 12
Mr Inbetween - FX - 10/9c
Season 1 was a surprise. Looking forward to this.

Friday, 13
(Undone – Amazon)
Rotoscoped Rosa Salazar? Sure, why not.

Room 104 - HBO - 11/10c
Always a good, weird, fun time with this one.

Friday, 20
Disenchantment - Netflix
Been too long, this ramped up nicely in the first half and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Monday, 23
9-1-1 - Fox - 8/7c
The best dumb show on TV returns. Can't wait to see what they do to Chimney this season.

(Prodigal Son - Fox - 9/8c)
Dunno. Premise seems interesting?

Tuesday, 24
The Conners - ABC - 8/7c
This was great without Roseanne (and good riddance), looking forward to more.

Wednesday, 25
Cake - FXX - 10:30/9:30c
Looks like something that would be on Adult Swim. Intrigued.

Sunday, 29
The Simpsons - Fox - 8/7c
Bless the Harts - Fox - 8:30/7:30c
Bob's Burgers - Fox - 9/8c
Family Guy - Fox - 9:30/8:30c
Still look forward to Fox's Sunday animation block multiple decades later.

How are folks liking Righteous Gemstones? I like Danny McBride in these sort of things, but I don't think this is as funny as Vice Principals.
