With which part?

Protecting "his brand" with an unneeded apology that casts blame at Twitch? It's just acting in his self interests to further his career. Twitch can promote whoever they want on whatever page they want on their platform, to be honest.

As to who to blame, it's people abusing the platform to stream inappropriate content. The person streaming must have had related content in the past, was flagged by an algorithm because they were getting a ton of views in short time, and simply gamed the system to get pushed to the front of the recommendations. The same thing happened with Artifact awhile back. The only option is to manually approve and continuously monitor each and every stream.

Twitch didn't put porn on his page on purpose, ruining their reputation, as a petty spiteful insult. Ninja's statement is about as interesting and thoughtful as any piece of pandering corporate PR. This entire thing is nothing for everyone involved.

Correct

Thank god there's someone actually reasonable here.

You could have this thing happen in literally any other streaming platform, Twitch can't control what every single user is doing, they can only react after they've done it.

Actually such a thing is unprecedented. It never happened on anyone's channel on any platform ever, and I don't think it ever would.

He shouldn't even have to apologize, this is all on Twitch.

Hopefully Ninja can get something done about it because Twitch still using his channel and brand for promotion without his consent is a bit dodgy in and of itself, but to accidentally have pornography display on his defunct channel which boasted a large child audience? That's a pretty bad mistake to have made. I know that part isn't Twitch's fault but they're implicating him in their mistake and that makes it really not cool.

Where is the problem exactly? He thinks Twitch shouldn't promote other content on Twitch on an account on Twitch? Just because it's the first time Twitch did it doesn't mean it's wrong. And that porn account was obviously made by mistake due to the algorithm and not done manually to screw him over.

He's trying to make nothing into something because he's pissed Twitch is using his channel to promote other channels when it's completely within their rights (as with every other streaming service).

Offcourse they cant control what every user is doing. This is a result of doing what they doing with the page.
Problem is. Its happening on Ninja his channel where he isnt having a say with Twitch posting the recommended stuff and and now resulting what has been shown

They promoted his stream on other channels in the past, so I don't really have a problem with them using his old link to promote other Fortnite streams.

Is this based on something more than Ninja leaving or is just a feeling? Because is early to say things like that...
I think it's more of a metaphorical collapse but they definitely keep getting flack for their baffeling decisions. Stuff like that weird email that guy got the other day, no bans for streamers using the N-word, and now this. They definitely are not doing themselves any favors lately.

Wait, so Ninja is apologizing for a thing someone else did?

I get why Twitch is on damage control after losing a huge name, but between this and that earlier event where they sent an e-mail so openly hostile that a bunch of people (myself included) thought that it was more likely to be a doctored screenshot, I'm amazed at how poorly they seem to run themselves.
A lot of kids follow his Twitch channel, Twitch promoted porn through his brand, possibly to kids. He's sorry it happen and wants Twitch to stop using his channel like that.

He's built a child-friendly brand, he's rightfully pissed that Twitch's algorithm is recommending porn channels, even if it wasn't deliberate.

How is that hard to understand?

Hell, I don't even like the guy but it is weird how they use only his channel to promote other channels. Why not do it with every streamer who is offline and isn't hosting somebody? It's petty.

Why do you think this is the first time they've done this? Because his brand is so big and recognizable so they took advantage of it. And then there's a moment when people see porn when they look for Ninja. How do you think he feels when that's associated with your brand, especially when he's tried to become family friendly?

Ninja should be mad that something like that can happen in the first place especially since he's unwillingly involved.

You don't have control on what gets recommend to your fanbase on any platform not just twitch.

It doesn't mention the list is recommended by Ninja. it's safe to assume any recommended content on any website is recommended by the website itself unless indicated otherwise.

That's not the point. They can promote whoever they want. The problem is that it looks like Ninja is promoting these streams

It's implied to anyone who is going to that page, which is associated with Ninja, and that is the entire reason they're doing it instead of the behavior you get going to https://www.twitch.tv/ajsdfdsfsd

It appears in the custom user-controlled part of the page not a dedicated recommend section like you see on youtube or something

The way he's denigrating porn seems pretty offensive to sex workers. With all his other language "incidents", it's not painting a pretty picture of Ninja.

I'm all on board for Mixer taking over as the dominant streaming platform out there. I hope Microsoft makes some more moves and gets a few more high profile streamers locked up.

They are blatantly using his channel to advertise other channels. They don't do this on other channels and e.g. when they ran Ninja branded ads as part of ad roll on channels Twitch got huge backslash from streamers as their channels were used to promote Ninja without asking them first. That is big no no in Twitch streamer culture.

They changed Ninja's page to "The streamer you're looking for is in another castle." a few days after he switched to Mixer, it looks petty, but they may have also changed it because they had a lot of questions being asked about what was going on with Ninja. Also, Twitch isn't going anywhere as long as Twitch Prime is a thing. Nobody even comes close to competing with what Twitch Prime offers right now. If Microsoft ever decided to give a free sub every month for those that have Xbox Gold that would be a start.

Yep, it's pretty clear they're trying to capitalize on his popularity for as long as possible. I wonder if MS get involved at this point. They did "hire him" so to speak.

Because none of them is this big? And again even the biggest streaming website YouTube fucks up many times. I just checked and the porn channel doesn't appear anywhere so they already fixed the mistake. Does he get pissed every time Youtube recommend a nut job streaming Fortnite for his audience?
Doesnt make it right.
He doesn't own all of Twitch. He only control his channel. What gets recommended on the side isn't his right to control and never was. Same goes for every other website.

Ninja is a Millionaire. Why do we have to care about him wanting to pull the ladder up, not liking that his success might lift others up as well?

I feel like people are being purposefully obtuse here. Anybody that has built a brand wants to control the content that is associated with it. Ninjas page now links to other streams( something that isn't done anywhere else)

By doing this it's linking the ninja brand to whatever twitch desires. There should be an opt in/ opt out option for this. As we see peoplejust streamed porn because they knew it would be promoted as a top fortnite stream and therefore be on ninjas page

What? Kids watch his channel. He was in no way taking swipes at sex workers. He just doesn't want people using his brand to promote other things especially porn since again... so many kids watch his channel.

The "opt in" was him keeping his Twitch contract. Now others might profit off his success - and he's still rich. Seems like a win-win to everyone.

As for your Youtube hypothetical, how the hell would I know?

I think it completely makes sense to advertise other Fortnite streamers when people come looking for a Fortnite streamer that is no longer active. That url is probably used quite a bit so they didn't want to just leave it leading to nothing.

I'm on Ninja's side on this one.

Incredibly petty for twitch to do that. I'm sure there's something in the ToS that protects twitch but I really didn't expect that a deactivated channel could be used to promote other stuff. His icon and name being used for that. It's not a system on twitch to recommend similar stuff, it's them manually setting this up just for one guy.

Twitch has always cross promoted. e.g.You can watch a clip of one channel and at the end of the video Twitch may rec a similar video of another channel.

This is such a ridiculous reach.

Ninja's audience is by and large kids.

Obviously he's going to be upset to see graphic adult content associated with his brand.

As if you would flip this on Ninja being down on sex workers, what's your deal?

All Twitch did was change Ninja's page to load the Fortnite section on Twitch, which sorts by the most viewed streamers in that section. The channel was streaming porn under the Fortnite tag.

Because it's a recipe for disaster, as today showed. Twitch doesn't do it for ANYONE else, but people see that their stream can show up on Ninja's page and that's when the porn labeled as "Fortnite" shows up.

Ninja was the biggest streamers even by views before he started focusing more on his brand. Even then he still had the biggest number of subs which is why MS got him for Mixer.

As for the other question you don't need to. No algorithm is fine tuned to perfection, and even google with their HUGE database feeding into their algorithm to learn, it's still not perfect by any mean. Getting pissed that an algorithm is not working 100% is stupid, and I really don't understand why he's trying to put it in a way like Twitch is trying to fuck him over on purpose.

Not to me. If his channel is somewhere else then it's safe to assume whatever on that page isn't his channel, no?
