The "opt in" was him keeping his Twitch contract. Now others might profit off his success - and he's still rich. Seems like a win-win to everyone.

Not surprised if he just deletes his Twitch channel and makes big public thing about it so Twitch can't go and try take it over for further use. This is Twitch trying to hijack his brand and reach which is quite big breach of trust. Thing would be totally different had Twitch coordinated these promotion efforts with Ninja instead of repurposing his channel without questions asked.

I think it completely makes sense to advertise other Fortnite streamers when people come looking for a Fortnite streamer that is no longer active. That url is probably used quite a bit so they didn't want to just leave it leading to nothing.

it does, and the fight over competitive search terms has been waged already and it is fine to advertise competitors when someone is searching for a business. But this isn't just someone looking for Ninja, it is someone going to the page associated with Ninja, and they aren't just advertising other channels -- they've written a message saying hey check out these other streams, with no indication that the message is from twitch or an advertisement. If you go to that page it looks like Ninja left and dedicated his page to other streamers. It's not a space in which twitch normally recommends other streams

Because it's a recipe for disaster, as today showed. Twitch doesn't do it for ANYONE else, but people see that their stream can show up on Ninja's page and that's when the porn labeled as "Fortnite" shows up.

It's not Ninja's page anymore. If he was this worried about the children, he should have kept his Twitch contract.

Does it? There's a header at the top of the page in HUGE letters that informs people that he no longer streams on the platform.

And if you look further you can still see that you're on his profile page as you can see his logo and name. And you're still on his URL.

Couldn't Ninja have left his channel up and running with a shot of the Mixer logo and an address, or something?

Why in the world would Twitch allow that?

Given how any other streamers offline profile does not promote other streamers and Ninja was one of their top stars............. I HIGHLY doubt it was anything but intentional

His page loads the Fortnite section on his page, that's it, most people looking for Ninja did so because of Fortnite.

I'm kind of amazed that Twitch didn't just redirect the ninja url to the fortnite main page.

wait so your position is that it should be acceptable to say keep your contract or we will defame you? that's extortion

I'm kind of amazed that Twitch didn't just redirect the ninja url to the fortnite main page.

that would have been the sensible approach (which twitch is not known for)

I said it in the other thread, but will here too. PewDiePie left Twitch to stream elsewhere years ago, Twitch didn't even end his partnership, his channel is identical to the day he left. They nuked all the content on Ninja's and use it as a recommended page, under his brand, that promoted porn. He has every right to be annoyed.

Twitch did everything to his channel after he left. Ninja had no say. I think the only thing he did was put the chat on emotes only to avoid trolling but Twitch came in after and their stuff.

Then why no other stream on whole platform, small or big, do this? Why only his channel has been basically hijacked by Twitch to promote other streamers without talking to owner of used channel first?

I wont be surprised if other streamers come out against this by Twitch. You just don't plug other streams on other channels without asking for okay first.

I dunno, it looks pretty clear to me that Twitch is saying Ninja left and they give some other people to watch instead.

I'm on Ninja's side on this one.

Incredibly petty for twitch to do that. I'm sure there's something in the ToS that protects twitch but I really didn't expect that a deactivated channel could be used to promote other stuff. His icon and name being used for that. It's not a system on twitch to recommend similar stuff, it's them manually setting this up just for one guy.
It's their site. Not his. He's not there any more (at no fault of Twitch (other than they should have paid big bucks to keep him if they really wanted)). He's not endorsing other streams or shown as recommending any. Simply "popular Fortnite channels".

They could shut the profile page down (which probs is against their TOS) but this is a business, that link will be getting lots of clicks. They have every damn right to promote their own site. Shutting it down would be pushing more people to competitors rather than their own site and getting other streams more views.

As I said, really petty and disgusting

Because he's bigger than the rest. Also, his success might lift other streamers up. Ninja not liking that shouldn't be taken into account.

Looks like Twitch tried to take some petty revenge and it ended up backfiring. This can definitely hurt Ninja's brand if kids go looking for his channel and see porn.

Not a great a look for Twitch.

Ninja was the biggest streamers even by views before he started focusing more on his brand. Even then he still had the biggest number of subs which is why MS got him for Mixer.

As for the other question you don't need to. No algorithm is fine tuned to perfection, and even google with their HUGE database feeding into their algorithm to learn, it's still not perfect by any mean. Getting pissed that an algorithm is not working 100% is stupid, and I really don't understand why he's trying to put it in a way like Twitch is trying to fuck him over on purpose.

Not to me. If his channel is somewhere else then it's safe to assume whatever on that page isn't his channel, no?
He wasn't even in the top 10 for subs when he left. Unless you mean followers.

That's fine, but remove dude's branding and image. That's the issue. You're using him to promote yourself when he's severed ties and tried to be amicable about it. I mean he doesn't even have to leave the old content up. Twitch is 100% in the wrong.

Isn't it obvious why? No other channel had his reach. Nobody else made such a huge deal outta switching platforms. That seems to be their reasoning, and it's not bad, if you ask me.

His channel was also plugged on other streams without their permission too.

This obviously wasnt on purpose. Also, without Twitch, Ninja wouldnt be popular at all. He really has to be thankful to have been on top in the Fortnite category when the game exploded.

I saw some people claiming that Fortnite is popular thanks to Ninja, which is wrong and hilarious on several levels, considering he was just another streamer back then.

Twitch has to delete those porn streams way faster tho, they are slacking and then stuff like this happens.

It's stupid. It's still Ninjas channel. Doesn't mater that he doesn't use it. It's still his account. Twitch shouldn't be able to do that. His account should be handled the same as any other.

It was and it outraged every streamer on platform, backslash was very loud and very swift. Twitch took those ads out of ad roll in like 24 hours. Along with statement and apology for doing it.

In Twitch streamer culture you just don't do this shit.

Sure they're allowed to do it, they have the right. I just don't think they should've done it. It's incredibly petty to single out a user and do that.

If it was a automated system that did that for everyone that left the plataform, sure. And the fact that his icon and name are being used makes it worse.

Feels like Ninja should at least be entitled to have his account completely closed if he asks for it even if it wipes all of his vods.
Also Twitch should probably try to clean up their act besides trying to capitalize on one of their streamer leaving.
