UK April charts: God of War takes No.1, Nintendo Labo has slow start

Don't have a horse in this race, but seeing all you "wah, Nintendo stop making games for people other than me WAAAAAAAH" "real, high class, hardcore gamers" out there wishing for a product's failure that does no harm to anyone and might have nice uses for classrooms and kids' creativity because you feel personally threatened and insecure about it sort of makes me want to see Labo skyrocket in sales this holiday season. The "hardcore gamer" being bratty 24/7 whenever they feel threatened never fails to be obnoxious and pathetic.

EDIT: Changed "little bitch" with "bratty", as I agree I was undermining my own point with my own frustration.

How the hell is PUBG charting so high? Isn’t it just a code on cardboard?
PUBG does what labodon't.

Labo's gonna be a generation-long slow burn like Wii Fit, methinks. Sales will pick up the closer we get to the holiday season.
It's not going to be in and way, shape or form comparable to Wii Fit.

Sales of *everything* Nintendo first party will pick up close to the holiday season. Labo won't be in any way special or over-perform in that regard.

A dumpster
Yakuza 0 sales were abysmall in UK, it sold like 5K FW, so I don't understand what people are celebrating. Yakuza 6 dropped from the charts completely on week 2. It sold less than 10K and remains in a super niche segment.

It's incredible how some people are "DOOOOMing" games like Xenoblade 2, which sold more and best in the series. And Yakuza is "YES, OMG, WOW". Context is important. It's cool that franchise is growing, but there's nothing special, sales are super low.

At the same, we have just 2 days of sales for Labo, and it has a "slow start" and a "failure". Sure, Jan

I have no words.
Normally I wouldn’t say someone is pushing a narrative but you are

I feel like you could have stated this without calling people "little bitch." Your point is valid even if you want a product to succeed to spite other people :).

This is a monthly chart that has 2 days of LABO sales correct? It's hard to really get any indication of it's sales potential from that.

You're right. I'm going to edit that out. I just get so annoyed with fellow hobbyists getting upset that some games are trying to get more people into our hobby, like it's a bad thing. Thanks for keeping me honest.

I'm interested in Labo but not at the current price point. I'm really only interested because I have two younger brothers to be honest. Will pick it up some time but right now the price is just not there for me.

Y'know I thought Labo was some of the dumbest, most unappealing shit I've ever seen released on a console but assumed it would fly off shelves because I figured I was just out of touch or something. Guess I should trust my gut instinct more from now on.

Glad to see GoW dominate, but dearly wish Yakuza was a lot higher at the same time.

£48?! Fuck... I'd wince at the thought of paying that for any standard edition of a game. Especially considering the game's on Shopto at the same price but with a free BR of Blade Runner 2049 with it.

Think I'll wait for a price drop either way tbh.
Shopto deal is pretty good, I would have gone with them if I didn't have a promotion on my pre-order with Amazon.

I don't have any small children so Labo sales are pretty irrelevant to me. I am a bit surprised Fallout 4 is still selling that well though.

Unsurprisingly, God of War debuted at the top of the monthly charts for April, to very strong sales considering it released late in the month, on April 20th. As a comparison, sales for Sony Santa Monica’s title nearly reached in eight days what Horizon Zero Dawn or Monster Hunter World sold in one month in the UK. Sony announced yesterday that God of War has sold over 3.1m units worldwide in three day.
Okay, that's just crazy. GOW is already a monster and it looks like it will have monster legs too.

Expected LABO to be this slow in the UK, Mario Kart still being at no. 4 surprised me though.
Mario Kart 8 is the best game on Switch. No joke.

Popular toys get a huge boost at Christmas, unpopular toys remain on store shelves even during the frenziest hours of Black Friday.
That's if it even lasts on store shelves till Christmas. It's worth remembering that Labo is a big box that takes up a lot of shelf space. so I wonder if retailers will be okay with dedicating that much space to something that isn't selling well.

People still don't get what Labo is or who it's aimed at. "Gamer culture" lol
Yes, how dare a company make stuff I don't like! Everything must conform to what I want!
I don’t think anyone would have a problem if Labo were an entirely separate venture from the Switch, and no one buys or likes everything Nintendo puts out, so it’s not a case of pure selfishness.

People are understandably leery of Nintendo going down the flash in the pan, appealing to flighty non game players route again, since that led to the waggle crippled Wii era, with so many games both marrred by unnecessary motion controls and probably lost to time because those gimmicks have been abandoned, and the utter clusterfuck that was the WiiU.

While I personally have no issue with Labo existing (even if I do think it’s a fundamentally flawed idea for its target audience), none of us should be shocked at the genuine fear some have of Nintendo’s potential to follow these gimmicky products back down a dark path that led to some of the absolutely worst times in the companies history, both in terms of output as well as lost market share and money.

I really don't know who is still buying GTA5 lmao
How is anyone still struggling with this?

New people buy consoles each week. Most of them buy GTAV, along with that new system. It’s just the defacto ‘game everyone plays’ this gen.

You realise that Nintendo started out as a toy company right? It's actually a very clever idea that might not have been implemented as well as it could have. Only time will tell.
Of course I know their history as a toy company.
I honestly don’t think in time this will be a good idea. It’s cardboard, you can get cardboard for £2 at a storage place. Nintendo are selling it for how much?

Yet it's charting in every region. If you think it is just "expensive cardboard" that's up to you but people are still buying it. Sure it's not breaking records but who is to say what Nintendo's expectation was for it anyway.

For how long will it be charting though? Not everyone is gonna go out in droves to buy cardboard for their kids. Or grown people buying cardboard whatever.

People are free to buy expensive cardboard all they want I don’t care what people do with their hard earned money. I just don’t think there are a lot of people like that in the world.

I don’t know Nintendo’s expectations but they don’t expect bombas when they ship a product.

Well gamers keep buying expensive plastic all the time, so it should do fine.

God of War is honestly such a breath of fresh air. Not a fan of Dark Souls, so God of War has been the first high profile Sony game this gen to really deserve its marks for me and THEN some. Astonishing to me, when old style God of War was something I loathed.

Really hope it continues to do well in May. But I doubt that will be that much of an issue.
