Yeah brexit is the tip of the iceberg here. There's nobody to stop them selling the NHS. Nobody to stop them giving tax cuts to the rich at the expense of the poor. They can literally do what they want for the next 5 years. And I'd be very surprised if they even stood a chance of being voted out 5 years from now since they'll blame all of it on the EU and people will buy it
Plus the shitrags and bbc will just be their propaganda outlet

People on here talking about fearing Jeremy Corbyn as a reason why Labour lost have completely missed the point — acquiesce to the demands of different leadership and you’ll never win. The war is with the media.

Well, this is awfully disappointing, but not exactly surprising what with all the polls basically saying this was going to happen. Fully expect Trump will be re-elected too.

so why does labour have corbyn, can't they elect somebody more likeable?
Because of their members voting system. Labour's membership is made up of the very left, Momentumites. And they'll vote in another Corbyn.

We all know Labour needs another Tony Blair, they have to veer more towards the right to have a chance at success again. But obviously without the war crimes this time.

Left of the Labour party I hope stay on. The policies are there, but with someone without the bags of smears. Hopefully there'll be a resurgence. People in this country are thick as fucking shite, see chuds who pop into this thread. Fickle and dense. Another 5 years and the tenuous "labour left us with no money!" excuse will fade even more. Still hoping for a hung parliament but maybe once all the old cunts are dead there's a glimmer of hope

Really goes to show how much we live in our bubbles. None of my friends of family would dream of voting Tory. The online spaces I patronise are the same. People on here think I'm right-wing ffs. And yet clearly most of the country feels completely differently.
I'm a Conservative voter but I try and read a wide variety of sources for news to avoid this problem. I post and read here, on 4chan, The Telegraph, The Guardian, FT, The Times, and The Independent. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this site and that's fine by me, but engaging and reading a wide range of opinions, often times going out of my "comfort zone" has certainly helped my world view and opened my eyes to issues I may have glossed over before.

i really think the story of this election, if the tories are on 46% like the exit poll suggests, is a right wing backlash to people trying to disrupt the result of the referendum either because they didn’t like it or thought they would be advantaged by it....defended by a leader that was completely inadequate to the task of resisting it
Yeah. A lot of people aren't massively engaged in politics and just see the big, bold headlines that shape the narrative.

A lot of Brexit was about bringing down the "London Establishment". When that same Establishment is seen as doing everything it can to prevent it, you can be sure people will rally behind BoJo and his promises to Get Brexit Done.

When Aberdeen is your saving grace you know things are fucked 😅

It's not that bad up here, hope you get the job!
Aberdeen is the only place I've ever been when I've legitimately seen a full bar fight over someone playing a song on a jukebox.

I'll have you guess which song it was. Hint it was a hit 80's song by a female American soul singer.

The polls were not lying when they said he was historically unpopular, to a degree where he was setting a record for net unpopularity relative to the other major party leader despite Boris being underwater.

Labour's gains in 2017 were despite him due to May's unpopularity, not because of him. The wrong lessons were taken away from that election.

Well, I wasn't going to check originally cause I had a bad feeling, but I guess it's better to get it out of the way now than wake up to it.

Let's just hope the world doesn't follow this up with Trump term 2.

The UK may be worse off than the US. At least the US had the popular vote not go to their clown and is trying to impeach him. Your clown just potentially got a full majority.

Thank god I live in Canada. While the conservative wave came in, we were able to weather it with a Liberal minority.

Just think how she went from trusted Corbyn ally to outcast because she was seen as too Remain.

Same with Starmer.

I can see the backlash and Momentum need to drop the militants and focus on the remain focused majority of their support and back these sort of people to take over Labour.
