I said it weeks ago, if the polls are to believed I stand by it, this country is not ready for a far left GOV, the problem I see for Labour and I see it echoed on here is a lot of members if Corbyn go want Labour to stay exactly where they are... my issue with that is that you are hoping that Corbyn is the issue..

that's a gamble

Jeremy Corbyn's Labour are not far-left, the British people are just thick as pig shit and don't even know what Communism is.

Corbyn says he's looking for a mixed economy of private and public ownership. That's not far-left.

Dispatches tonight is about children born into homelessness. Then Panorama later is looking into the cover up of war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan with the closure of the investigations without a single prosecution. That was another Tory scandal that has just been forgotten about amongst all the shit.

Most feel that the backbone of communications infrastructure is not something the government should have full control over. There is a fair amount of support for price-controlled or subsidised internet, but there is a fair amount of paranoia regarding full control and what another snoopers charter could mean in that case

It's not like the goverment didn't lay the whole phone network across the UK and agencies are sucking all data regardless. I doubt it would make one bit of difference since all companies have to comply with the law anyway and if you are that paranoid, I'm sure there will be ISPs to choose from. It's not like they are owning BT or anything, they just want openreach to lay fiber everywhere and offer free broadband, companies will piss and moan whatever happens, goverment is making us delivery fiber everywhere, boooo!, goverement is laying the fiber themselves, booooo! They fucked up over the last 40 years, step aside. Sure, it won't be without issues, I somehow doubt the cost will be the figure they supported and good luck getting companies to pay that covers upkeep etc. but hey if there is a middleground and all you have to pay is a cheap line rental fee, better than now if the whole country gets fibre cheaply

Depressing to think, but if Labour do somehow get in and get some plans going, the Tories are just going to privatise it all over again aren't they, after we all pay for it. Tories should be rooting for a Labour goverment, lol.

I think Labour need to find a country with a far left Gov and use that as an example, Sweden and Denmark are well run
Sweden and Denmark arent far left though

Denmark is firmly center left (the Social Democrats are in power right now) while Sweden is run by an increasingly centrist party (which is also why the far right keeps growing in the polls)

A woman I know lives on 2 slices of toast a day. She spends what she can on giving her daughter beens on toast etc and a school uniform. This country is fucked.

While its obviously not the only reason people are desensitised to this kind of thing, I do think shit like Jeremy Kyle and the more recent poverty porn tv phenomenon have a lot to answer for.

Denmark is Center Left but immigrant hating by the way, the Overton Window has moved waaaay to the right there regarding migration. Far right only collapsed because their voters are satisfied enough that they moved back to the left. Sweden is going to crack down on migration after next election there, I predict.

I had several women come to see me because they had no milk for their babies and no money to buy it. It still makes me sick to this day. Imagine your 0 year old is crying because they are starving and you have literally nothing to give them.

But hey, fuck it, let's get Brexit done.

Scotland's first Baby Box was delivered on the 15 August 2017 and since then over 80,000 boxes have been delivered – with uptake now at 96 per cent.

Scotland's Baby Box aims to help tackle deprivation, improve health and support parents. We're proud to introduce it in Scotland. The box includes:

  • Scratch mittens
  • Short-sleeved vests
  • Long-sleeved vests
  • Long-sleeved sleepsuits
  • Cotton hat
  • Socks
  • All-in-one day suit
  • Jersey trousers
  • Long-sleeved sleepsuits
  • Fleece jacket with hood
  • Mattress
  • Mattress protector
  • Fitted sheet
  • Cellular blanket
  • Baby wrap
  • Hooded bath towel
  • Digital ear thermometer
  • Bath sponge
  • Bath and room baby thermometer
  • Teething ring soother
  • Baby books
  • PlayTalkRead play mat
  • Emery boards
  • Bib
  • Muslin cloth squares

Didn't the Tories try to say the babybox was unsafe or some crap?

I think it was just a dispute over the lack of evidence that it can help reduce cot death. At the end of the day

The Scottish government said the boxes meet all the relevant safety standards and that they "help tackle deprivation, improve health and support parents".

From doing a little research I think there's been a few NHS hospitals in England that have trialed giving out something (most likely the box part).

I'm slightly amazed tech people would be skeptical about Labour's broadband plan on the basis of privacy and freedom... when the Tories only just shelved a plan for what is effectively a wanking licence.

I mean the early internet had an extremely strong libertarian tilt to it, and most of my colleagues are GenX and still tend to carry those values when it comes to tech issues. Worth noting they all hate Brexit/Bojo and are... more left-leaning than right, but I suspect are more likely to go LibDem anyway.

I wouldn't vote for it personally but I don't believe that an effective monopoly like OpenReach is doing any good either, so I'm fairly ambivalent on the whole thing, but it's been a big subject of derision in an otherwise apolitical environment the last week.

Yep. It's "look at that scum, cut their money!" bait. Kinda interesting it started getting a big push when the coalition was cutting everything.

I think I read a study into this, and it suggested that it became a thing because of Tony Blair and the language he used to use.

Uh, theres a reason why it's called antisemitism IN THE LABOUR PARTY.

Because that's the only racism that either exists or matters in brexit Britain.

All other racisms (including rounding up British west Indians and sending them "back where they cam from") are lesser and are frankly not worth discussing.

Interesting tweet.
Seems like the tories won't win their huge landslide if what labour candidates are noticing at the door is true

He goes on to explain in other tweets that there has not been that much movement in terms of the parties standings based on what has been noticed on the ground

That can't be right, I was told he was great for people

Tony Blair was king of the ASBOs. There was a definite managing behavior style to Blair's leadership, act a certain way and we'll make sure you are alright. Supposedly the subtext of the movie "The World's End" was this new style of politics. Middle-class loved it too, decorum over justice.

Hah, in England the Tories know the market will provide a solutio - why waste taxpayer's cash on scrounging mums! We give marketing reps for Bounty access to the maternity wards so they can sing up the sleep-deprived mums to whatever mailing lists they like under the guise that they're NHS approved. In return they get a box with a few nappies, wetwipes and stuff, plus a ton of money-saving vouchers for all your favourite brands! Do the SNP give you 40% off your next purchase of pampers newborn ultrasoft, the most absorbent and comfortable nappy that 9 out of 10 babies prefer?
It's the Outer Worlds of post-natal care!
Apparently they've modernised since my kids were born and now there's even an app that totally isn't there to harvest your data to sell to pampers and Huggies. Download it now from Bounty.com

Here's Laura Kuenssberg reporting that story. Oh, what's this, she doesn't give any details and combined it with a story bad for Labour and only linked the Labour piece?

She is truly fucking appalling and not even trying to hide it anymore.

To be fair to Kuenssberg, of whom I'm not a huge fan, she retweeted this just two tweets before:
