As someone living in London I can see where this idea we are all champagne swilling socialists working in the City comes from. There's a hell of a lot of working class labour voters down here, it isn't people who live in London who fucked over northern towns.
He's making the same basic mistake pundits in america make when talking about trumps 'working class' base. He misses off one very important qualifier.
It's a white working class base. Working class minorities votes to remain.
Pundits hate talking about that because it opens up the questions of race and xenophobia and intolerance, and then that leads you to wondering whether a third of the population are just racist which of COURSE is nonsense and untrue.

It also makes the mistake that the white working class in the UK support Trump in the same numbers they voted leave. They don't.
You can't just take this notion of who a Trump supporter is and transplant it here. It's just stupid.
Working class white people largely voted to remain also. The brexit divide largely splits by Age not by Class.
So while you are largely right about Trump's base it still can't be transplanted onto the Brexit situation here.
Even if there was some massive support for Trump amongst the UK white working class (which there isn't), that's not a good reason to abandon your principles.

Chuka won by a huge majority in 2017 with Lib Dems in third, so I don't know if him running as the LD candidate would pull enough Labour voters over to them to win.

I'm still wondering why the LD would accept them. Once you've let those self-serving clowns in, it's obvious they'll immediately start to scheme to reach positions of power and take control of the party without contributing anything.
He's always had a high opinion of himself considering I can't think of anything he's done that hasn't been a disaster.

Remember six months ago when Centrist Dads everywhere were crying out for a party exactly like the CUKs (according to the Westminster commentariat and some creative push-polling).

I don't know about automatic but it should be easier for local people to do something about it than possibly wait 5 years to get something done.
That's if they can hold on to their seats while having changed parties twice between the elections. I strongly doubt any of them will still be an MP after the next GE, and the LD would do well to try to put someone of their own in these constituencies. Past performance is not an indication of future success, especially for those.
The next GE is 0-3 years away.
6 MPs for 0-3 years is a lot of potential power to turn down on a set of principles the Lib Dems aren't exactly known for.

Sorry, my sentence was inelegant and the sentiment mangled. I wasn't trying to say the Lib Dems have no principles, but rather that their principles were not opposed to (and in fact are largely in favour of and built around) incorporating the malcontents and careerists from other parties.

Didn't he announce it before he asked for a meeting, he hasn't beaten around the Bush since Trump became President but has always said he would discuss the issues.
It's a weird one because I don't believe anyone thought the meeting could last more than a couple of seconds given what Corbyn believes and the way trump reacted to Democrats a few weeks ago.
