To be fair, China's numbers are probably bullshit, but it's not like we wouldn't end up on the top anyway
If you look on a micro scale, everybody's numbers are bullshit.

It's going to take years for us to really see the scope of this. In a year, we're going to look back and find out that way more people were dying than average in many places, and the only conclusion will be that it is related to the pandemic (but uncounted in the "official" statistics we're giving now, because we didn't know they were positive and/or couldn't be sure why they died).

Stay safe and stay home, US-ERA. Damn, to think that it is probably going to get way worse the coming week/coming two weeks. Hope it ends well, but kinda doubt it considering your, well, "leadership". But please take care of each other at least.

Germany's death numbers are extremely suspicious. AFAIK, they are not counting the elderly or people with previous illnesses. Or people who die at home. They only count people who die in hospitals. That's why they are so low.

A study that just came out claims it's just the heavy testing allowing the detection of more mild or asymptomatic cases which drags down the fatality rate compared to other countries that haven't detected as many minor cases. Other than that Germany isn't as far into the disease lifecycle as Italy and Spain. They're expecting the same rates over the long run.

I seriously think we're going to hit 3 million, a true 1% of the entire country.

The frightening "shadow number" will be deaths associated with lack of treatment. If you get "just" pneumonia, and the ventilators are all in use, that's not going to count as part of the COVID-19 death rate. Same for car accident victims that come and there are no more ICUs available.

Trust me, our family works in the funeral business and your assumption could not be more wrong. German efficiency and thoroughness might be a myth in many other sectors these days, but these numbers are most likely accurate. There is no central agency that could hide or falsify them anyway. That data is all collected on a very local level.

Individual-1 will be pointing his finger away from himself like a BEAST if he waddles out to a "briefing" today.

It'll be evil.

It'll be enraging.

It'll be pointless in the face of this.

And if people fall for it, it'll work.

Well, hopefully early detection and, above all, action helps them not reach the numbers we're getting here in Spain.

He might be happy at being #1. He's sufficiently clueless that I wouldn't put it past him to at least joke about it.

Per capital number is a better way of you're going to show these types of 'rankings'. There's 350 million people here so of course the numbers will be higher. Also, obviously China's numbers are probably severely underreported based off various sources

Wow, some seem very happy about this. Meanwhile you can catch hell for being critical of some other countries.

"We're going to win. We're going to win so much. We're going to win at trade, we're going to win at the border. We're going to win so much, you're going to be so sick and tired of winning, you're going to come to me and go 'Please, please, we can't win anymore.' You've heard this one. You'll say 'Please, Mr. President, we beg you sir, we don't want to win anymore. It's too much. It's not fair to everybody else.'" Trump said. "And I'm going to say 'I'm sorry, but we're going to keep winning, winning, winning, We're going to make America great again."

United States of America is #1

I definitely don't need to read any further than this and I can safely log off for the rest of the day.

There are some seriously scary times ahead and I wish America would come together to fight together instead of the crappy piecemeal state by state plan.

"This pandemic is a serious situation and as such deserves a serious level of discussion. Please refrain from posting unsubstantiated information from unverified or disreputable sources, baseless conspiracy theories, or low-effort fear-mongering."

Seems like we need this disclaimer in every Corona thread

Are people in the United States charged for treatment of Covid-19 as well? Or are they offering free treatment to help people?

It's actually the other way round, they count everything, what is your source lol?

Corona deaths in Germany:
• Everyone who dies because of Corona
• Everyone who has pre-existing conditions and dies with Corona
• Everyone who died and is suspected to have been infected by Corona, tested post mortem
