I understand Sega point in japan, as drug laws are very strict there and this just shows Sega condemn the use of drugs. But in the west dosent make any sense to cancel the game. And if you think Sega should delay or cancel the release just because 1 actor consumed drugs in his private life, do me a favor, grab ur entire music collection and burn it.

As stated in the original thread, this is the only game this year that interests me after KH3.
I need to play it.

At worst the Western release is cancelled forever.
At best we're looking at a massive delay for them to re-record his lines and put a new model in. I mean they did it for 4 on it's re-release.

See you guys in 9 years!

It really shouldn't take that long to hire a new actor, re-record lines, scan his face, plunk the new dialogue and face into the game, tweak the facial animation and lip sync, and debug. It's just one character. The mocap animation wouldn't even need to be changed. Maybe a delay of a few months? Six, tops? This shouldn't even be a 2020 game when they're only changing one guy's face and voice acting.

Haha that's just a joke because they didn't change it until the remaster in 2019 for Yakuza 4 (original JP release was 2010) but obviously he wasn't convicted until much later - 2016 I believe.

I hope you're right, my friend. I really wanted to play this game. :(

I think Sega (Japan and America) knows we want the game. A LOT of work has gone into making it an excellent western product. But they value certain rules in their culture, and it's very disrespectful for us to say "whatever it's coke, just release the game in the west".

You're going to have to be patient. We're gonna have to wait. The game is likely going to see a bit of a delay. But there's very little chance that the game gets outright cancelled after they've invested this much into it.

They can't be this fucking backwards. I was looking to jump in after enjoying Yakuza 0 but not having time to dive into the whole series. This was a great title to pick up after that. One of my most anticipated games of 2019.

Signed. Fucking ridiculous what is done to someone who does some cocaine (not that it's totally good), versus say, the Rurouni Kenshin mangaka who got slapped on the wrist for child porn.

Only if Sega agrees to release it unaltered with Pierre's likeness and voice kept in

I don't care how bad others want this game, I won't support Japan's bullshit trying to wipe a man from existence for failing a drug test. Fuck off

Yeah this is going to be the next game I spend my money on. I really want this game

Just found out from the other thread that they changed the name for the western release, don't see why that was necessary

Not to be a downer, but, do we know the game is good?

The various opinions I've read say this is among the best Yakuza Studio productions.

I've personnally played the japanese demo which includes the entire first chapter of the game. I skipped the dialogue since I don't speak Japanese and didn't want to spoil any scene, but I can at least testify the gameplay is really good. I imagine the demo isn't available anymore, which is a shame. I'm glad I still have it.

It's good. :)

Yeah, impressions from importers have been exceedingly positive. I've repeatedly seen the opinion that's its alongside the best, or the best story in the franchise.

And like, we've played the demo, it's a joy to play.

OK, good to know! I love this studio, but, just wanted to make sure before making any kind of commitment :)

With all the threads where the games are being boycotted we also have a thread asking for a game to be released. It's wild times!

you're worrying too much guys. They have invested a lot of money on this even including translations in different languages, it WILL get released soon enough, in the meantime just play something else.

Forget about the Western release, I'm not going to support this game if Sega is going to do the lead actor dirty just because he did some coke. That isn't right. Where's the petition supporting him and his inclusion in the game? Such bullshit.

Not impressed with the petition, particularly because there's no language on how while we don't necessarily condone the use of cocaine, we don't generally believe in the extreme social reprecussions, and we don't appreciate shouldering the burden of another country's standards. I don't just support Judgement because I want to play it; I actively reject stigmitizing drug use in this way and punishing fans internationally for it. Also, "whether" and "publicly" spelled wrong.

This is where I'm at.
I won't support the game if Pierre Taki is removed and replaced. The petition should be for the game to release in it's original state, with translations included. None of this wipe a man off the face of the Earth for failing a drug test nonsense.

I think there is some merit in keeping the petition more broad just to show that we care about the game coming altogether. I would say your first point is worth consideration though and the typos should be fixed if it is possible for Zephyriel to edit.

I'm not trying to be a nitpick, but these petitions always seem to have errors and it could come across as a rush job to someone in high places reading it.

If they plan on censoring Taki's involvement in order to release it here, I'd rather they cancel it. Won't support it.

I personally hate the dodgy combat, same as Yakuza 6, but it has at least improved since Kiwami 2. The stalking sections are not what I'd call fun, the investigative parts are pretty similar to the Batman Arkham games, not all that involving and little room for error. You get unlimited time to search a small narrow area for clues, but only certain prerequisite items are considered relevant to progress the plot.(Obra Dinn and Crimes & Punishment has set the bar high when it comes to detective games for me). The interrogation of witnesses and suspects is a bit less punishing than a game like L.A. Noire but not as involving I feel. The return of different combat styles is welcoming, and once you get enough upgrades, the controls and combat starts to feel as fast and slick as in Yakuza 0 which is good. One thing I hate though is if I want Yagami to run, or even jog, then I need to press the X button to make him run and tilt the analogue stick forward all the way and he'll sprint. It's a bit of a clusterfuck in combat because I also use the X button for dashing as well as a toggle for running and walking. Hopefully, it'll control differently in the localized version.

All in all I like it more than the previous two Yakuza titles so far.

While I don't think they will outright cancel the game in the West, I still signed. It's the least I could do.
