That's a great price for Axiom. Been wanting to try the game out forever. Will definitely bite.

Is Battle Chef Brigade worth the price of entry? Or should I try Celeste instead? (I know they're unrelated but I have $50 store credit.)

For Battle Chef Brigade - if I was holding off on buying it at $20, I'm definitely not buying it at $18. Shame, as it's on my wishlist.

Shit... RER1 and 2 at that price. Not super into horror games, but I have been curious about it. I might bite on this.

Sigh, still waiting for a sale on Yooka-Laylee... at least 25% if not half off.

Will pick up Battle Chef.

I was greatly disappointed. Promising start, hampered by a bunch of useless weapons, poor endboss fights, and an overly convoluted story.

I recognize I'm in the minority in my opinion.

I went in expecting something that could just scratch that Metroid itch and I came out with a new personal favorite. It's really good.

Hmm okay, thanks. I'll pick between that or Resident Evil.

How does the performance of the Resident Evil games compare to the other consoles FPS wise? Tempted by thise prices, but if I'm missing out on 60 fps I might not pull the trigger.

Almost picked up Battle Chef Brigade last night to satisfy the lack of Food Wars until April. It isn't much of a discount, but it's better than nothing!

I thought Axiom Verge was poor as well. I'll quote my Steam review for anyone on the fence.

I really, really wanted to like this game. I love Metroidvania titles, but sadly by the end of this game, I actually hated it.

The first of Axiom Verge's problems is that while it has all you would expect from a Metroidvania game, it feels like it does everything it does only because that's what a Metroidvania does. By comparison, in something like Super Metroid or the more recent Hollow Knight, each location or screen justifies its existence with a unique challenge or sense of purpose. So while those maps are filled with shafts, corridors and rooms, each is unique and purposefully designed enough to confer a real sense of adventure and discovery. Axiom Verge is also full of shafts, corridors and rooms, but most fail to carve out an identity. As you backtrack in the best Metroidvania games, it's a fun journey back through places previously explored, but in Axiom Verge, it's just a trudge.

The game has numerous procedurally generated secret areas, but sadly these highlight the map design's shortcomings. I was braced for something that came with the hallmarks of procedurally generated areas - the repetition, comparative lack of identity and so on. Yet they feel no different to the game's other locations to traipse through. And not because of any particularly impressive procedural work, but simply because the bulk of the game's main locations feel so lacking in gameplay spark themselves.

This isn't uniform - locations like Kur impress more than any other area in the game, and it's a shame there isn't more like it. Another area which tries something more different is Edin, but sadly that brings me to the game's major flaw.

Up until you reach Edin, the game is a solid but unspectacular Metroid alike. However, two things happen once you reach Edin. The first is that several incredibly annoying enemy archetypes become the predominant form of adversary in the game. It turns the last few zones of the game into an agonising crawl. It completely drains any fun out of the game. You can eventually find one of three weapons which deals with these enemy types more easily. However, these weapons can only be found in "hard" secret areas, of which only one will spawn per save file. In my case, the area was located essentially a few steps from the final boss door and was of no use whatsoever to me by that point.

The second thing which happens in Edin is what I can only describe as the most awful boss fight I've ever seen in a video game. The bosses are mostly ok up until this point. Easy and bullet spongy, but at least involving and visually impressive. However the boss of Edin will haunt my gaming nightmares forever, and was so hideously frustrating I almost put the game down and never returned to it. The subsequent bosses aren't a lot better.

It's a shame and I appreciate the huge undertaking this project must be for a lone developer, but I just didn't like this game at all by the end of it. It looks stunning, and had it ended 1/3 earlier I might be writing a tentative recommendation here. Instead, I really can't.

Ah dang. Such a good deal for Axiom Verge. I have a birthday coming up and asked for the Multiverse Edition, so if I don't pick that up I'll definitely go for the eShop deal.

Update: Ended up dialing back on getting Axiom Verge. Even though it wasn't on sale, I went with SteamWorld Dig 2, and eventually Steam World Dig. 2/28

Oh sick, Battle Chef Bri-- 10%?!? What game are we playing here?

I have no problem paying the original price, let alone 10% off... But with a measly 10% they might as well have not discounted it at all.

lol I think it's done more for visibility than much else. It's not exactly traceable if you don't specifically search for it(or its genre) if it's not on sale.

RER 1 or 2? Looking to play at night in bed with headphones and be spookified.

I'd highly recommend both as they're shining examples of the RE4 formula done right.

RER2 is much more consistently great, while RER1 has some lows, but with some really high highs.

Also: Both perform excellently and look great on Switch, especially in portable. Probably the best ports on the system really.

Really tempted to get Resident Evil Revelations/Revelations 2 -- $17.49 CAD each. However, way too many Switch games to play right now.

Get axiom verge peeps if interested, you will support the devs sick son that way.

He donates/uses nearly most of the profit for improvement for his son's life.

Which boss was that? None of the bosses in Axiom Verge ever came close to being that level of frustration.

Throw me into the "Axiom Verge is worth playing" camp. It has it's flaws but I can recommend it.

Those on the fence or wonder which Revelations game to get. 2 is a more fleshed out game but both are great. At this price I would just get both. RER 1 was crazy on the 3ds when it first was released and truly a Capcom masterpiece given the hardware they were working with.

Axiom Verge is a great game and given that is is done by one man and that he uses it to help his sons medical condition the price is absolutely worth it. Before the uptick in "Metroidvania" style games there was only Axiom Verge and Guacamelee. So if on the fence the price is worth the support alone.

Unlocked framerate. It really never hits 60 unless your in a building and nothing is going on. It floats in the low 40s. I like unlocked framerates (I can notice it feeling above 30 and I largely prefer that) so this was good for me but if you're sensitive to unlocked framerates you will not like this.
