The stock market is not the economy, however the economy is starting to weigh down the stock market. For example, Caterpillar had bad earnings yesterday and also announced they would be increasing tractor prices next year due to aluminum tariffs. In addition, the trade war is causing uncertainty and also contributing to the stock slide.
The non-listed smaller companies have already been knocked down or out, sadly.
