Conservatives ARE committing suicides higher than average rates. Hello opioid crisis! I would love if "that's so conservative" becomes the new way to describe something as trash. It would tarnish their shitty word the way they ruined liberal.

I made the 'hold my beer' reference to Trump trying to one up the UK craziness yesterday. I see the one upman ship has continued and the UK are trying to top yesterdays meeting. Even with the pending partial shutdown, I think the UK will be hard to beat right now.

NYT: Michael Cohen, Trump's Ex-Lawyer Who Implicated Him in Hush-Money Scandal, Faces Sentencing
Michael D. Cohen, the former lawyer for President Trump, is to be sentenced on Wednesday morning for his role in a hush-money scandal that could threaten Mr. Trump's presidency by implicating him in a scheme to buy the silence of two women who said they had affairs with him.
The sentencing, at 11 a.m. in federal court in Manhattan, will cap a startling fall for Mr. Cohen, 52, who had once hoped to work by Mr. Trump's side in the White House but ended up a central figure in the inquiry into payments to a porn star and a former Playboy model before the 2016 election.

New York Attorney Gen.-elect Letitia James says she plans to launch sweeping investigations into President Trump, his family and "anyone" in his circle who may have violated the law. https://nbcnews.to/2EpIvpz
8:06 AM - Dec 12, 2018
James outlined some of the probes she intends to pursue with regard to the president, his businesses and his family members. They include:

  • Any illegalities involving Trump's real estate holdings in New York, highlighting the October New York Times investigation into the president's finances.
  • The June 2016 Trump Tower meeting with a Russian official.
  • Examine government subsidies Trump received, which were also the subject of Times investigative work.
  • Whether he is in violation of the emoluments clause in the U.S. Constitution through his New York businesses.
  • Continue to probe the Trump Foundation.

Press Secretary Sanders said Trump insults female reporters to treat them equally
At Politico's "Women Rule" event on Tuesday, reporter Eliana Johnson asked Sanders if the president's sometimes demeaning language towards women was ok.

"As a professional woman, do you think that's appropriate?" Johnson asked, referring to times that Trump had called individual female reporters "stupid" or a "total loser."

In response, Sanders said that Trump "has had an equal number of contentious conversations with your male colleagues."

"Women wanted to be treated equally, and we have a president that certainly does that," Sanders said.

"He is not going to hold back, and the people of this country elected him in large part because he is a fighter."

John, pls.

CNN Politics @CNNPolitics

GOP Sen. John Kennedy says he thinks there will be a government shutdown over border wall funding. "President Trump does not look to me like he was bluffing" and Nancy Pelosi isn't going to "agree to anything because she's worried about her speakership," he says

Yesterday:

Sahil Kapur @sahilkapur

"The president is not bluffing" on his threat to shut down the government over the wall, says @SenJohnKennedy. "If I were playing poker with him and saw his behavior — if I didn't have the cards, I'd fold."

Sahil Kapur @sahilkapur

.@SenJohnKennedy says a shutdown would be "the fault of all of us."

"I don't want to see government shut down," he says. "Life's hard but it's harder when you're stupid."

this is something i've wondered about.

why are the media outlets giving airtime to these people that lie?

its not a "both sides" thing. these people are not saying anything real and are trying to say feelins = facts. it would be the same thing as giving "flat earthers" a voice in anytime nasa is being interviewed .

its dangerous.

He speaks from experience.

He was literally going to run for governor of Louisiana but made his mind up to not run because the day prior wapo or similar ranked him as the most quotable senator and he didn't want to lose the spotlight.

Which, as a side effect, is excellent because the current democratic governor of Louisiana Edwards is excellent.

Edit: Was Politico

And I listened to that npr interview on the way in. The entire thing was a waste of time because she was just correcting his falsehoods the entire time. He should not have been on.

While I hate the term "fake news", it's clear why it's caught on so much. The media has been a sideshow and they continually give voice to these knucklehead pundits who they know is full of shit. They give light to the worst elements continually and even with trump and all his evilness, they continue to do it.

They're actually given constant privilege and protection by these tech companies, more than they should, but they simply have to be victims, in their mind.

They get no satisfaction from being "good Christians", they can only get off by acting in their own personal Passion play.

WaPo: Brett Kavanaugh's accuser presents SI's 'Inspiration of the Year' award to a Larry Nassar victim

Rachael Denhollander, who sent a message that was heard by hundreds of other women when she refused to remain silent about the sexual abuse of former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State doctor Larry Nassar, was presented with Sports Illustrated's "Inspiration of the Year" award, introduced by a controversial woman who chose to speak up about abuse she allegedly suffered.
"In stepping forward, you took a huge risk and you galvanized future generations to come forward even when the odds are seemingly stacked against them," said Dr. Christine Blasey Ford in a video. Ford alleged during Senate confirmation hearings on the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh that she was sexually assaulted by him more than 30 years ago. "The lasting lesson is that we all have the power to create real change and we cannot allow ourselves to be defined by the acts of others."

I really hope the judge throws Flynn in the slammer. You don't get to treason and then community service your way out because you had some info on some Russians.

If Flynn's plea deal is what gave them the evidence to take down Trump I disagree. You have to make it appealing for future investigations as well so that witnesses will want to take plea deals so the investigators can bring in the big fish.

Sanders' remarks came while speaking at Politico's "Women Rule" event on Tuesday with reporter Eliana Johnson about what she wanted her legacy to be.
"I hope that it will be that I showed up every day and I did the very best job that I could to put forward the president's message," as well as "to do the best job that I could to answer questions," Sanders said.
"To be transparent and honest throughout that process and do everything I could to make America a little better that day than it was the day before," she continued.
Sanders said earlier this year that it "bothers" her that people think she misleads the media.

Because they feel like they need to represent the popular views even if they're wrong, because people with wrong views still bring ad revenue.

I was with you, @morningmika, right up to the "butt boy" comment. Try "toadie" or "lackey" or "stool pigeon" or "ass kisser," or "traitor," but maybe don't equate homosexuality with Mike Pompeo carrying water for the murderous regime in Saudi Arabia.

"feelings = reality" is a foundation of the conservative movement, though. it is a both-sides thing. the things being offered to the average republican voter are stuff like "treat nonwhite people like dangerous threats," "keep science and academic rigor out of government decision making," "relish in the fantasy of being a billionaire one day while dying due to lack of health care," etc. Unless they are prepared to try to avoid having conservative guests at all, or to explicitly admit that there's no rational reason remaining to be a republican, they're gonna be stuck having crazy people on, because the base is there for the crazy, not the paul ryan style economic snake oil.

republicans spent generations working the refs by calling anything that isn't regurgitating republican propaganda biased against them and now media lets their BS fly unchallenged.

Can't wait for Fox personalities to bitch about how Beto's not going on Fox enough compared to other networks because he's only going on there twice a year for interviews and 3 for the others. Meanwhile Trump is now Fox exclusive.

APNewsBreak: Julian Castro moves toward 2020 White House run

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Former Obama housing chief Julian Castro says he's taking a step toward a possible White House campaign in 2020 by forming a presidential exploratory committee. The Texas Democrat tells The Associated Press that he will announce a decision Jan. 12.
The move Wednesday gives the 44-year-old former San Antonio mayor an early start to what's shaping up as a crowded Democratic field without a clear front-runner to challenge President Donald Trump.
Castro indicated in an AP interview that his mind was all but made up.
"I know where I'm leaning, for sure," said Castro, who has said for weeks that it was likely he would seek the nomination.
An exploratory committee usually is a formality before a candidate launches a presidential campaign. It legally allows potential candidates to begin raising money.
