Just a few reminders:

- This thread isn't a venting ground for OT threads
- This thread isn't a Twitter feed or a live TV comment feed, so either give some context for what you're posting about or don't fuckin' do it

Anyway, here's the thread title context, brought to you by sprsk (no points for guessing which recent news story this is referencing)

My favorites:

For understanding policy and political science in the US:
  • The Weeds (Vox) - more focused on policy than drama, very informative, they have a 'white paper of the week' segment where they go over new poli-sci research. Not as dry as you'd expect though (my overall favorite).
The Supreme Court:
  • Amicus (Slate) - Dahlia Lithwick is a great court reporter and has fantastic guests on to talk about the supreme court (often guests that are directly involved with relevant cases), though her guests are usually from the left so sometimes you come away a little overoptimistic -- still incredibly informative though.
For fantastic interviews:
  • Ezra Klein Show (Vox) - deep dives into big ideas, important subjects. Ezra has one of the best interview styles in the business and he makes sure each minute is packed full of valuable insight.
Peek into the criminal justice system:
  • Stay Tuned with Preet - former US attorney Preet Bahara knows his stuff and has great guests on to talk about the law and criminal justice system
National Security:
  • The Lawfare Podcast - centered around national security but branching off into all sorts of areas, each episode offers a serious discussion about a given topic
Debates:
  • Intelligence Squared Debates - literally Oxford style debates, 2v2 in 3 stages. Great way to be informed of both sides of an argument over any given topic.
Economics:
  • Slate Money - business, finance, macroeconomics, monetary policy, regulations -- very informative and somehow they make all this stuff entertaining
  • Planet Money (NPR) - shorter, more produced, not quite as in the weeds
General political discussion podcasts:
  • Political Gabfest (Slate) - John Dickerson of CBS This Morning, Emily Bazlon of NYT, David Plotz (formerly at Slate) each bring their own bit of expertise for a well rounded discussion
  • Pod Save America (Crooked Media) - former aides to Obama provide an entertaining and uncommonly insider look into politics
Daily podcasts for your Alexa Flash Briefing:
  • Up First (NPR) - brief overview of today's stories
  • The Daily (NYT) - similar, but they usually have a deeper dive into a particular story that isn't necessarily breaking news
From across the isle:
  • The Daily Standard (The Weekly Standard) - if you want to expose yourself to conservatives, this is gonna be the most reasonable, least annoying one. But they're still conservatives.
  • If you can't stand a whole podcast of conservatives, KCRW's Left Right & Center is what it sounds like and is pretty good but Rich Lowry is more Trumpy than the people at The Weekly Standard.
Series podcasts (these explore specific topics like documentaries):
  • Slow Burn (Slate) - each season explores a major scandal so you can get a sense of how it felt as it was happening -- the first season is about Nixon and Watergate, the second season is about Clinton's Monica Lewinski scandal
  • More Perfect (Radiolab) - exploring the history of the Supreme Court -- super, SUPER fascinating.
  • The Wilderness (Crooked Media) - a series exploring how the Democratic Party can save itself and the country.
  • The RFK Tapes - similar to Slow Burn, goes back to look at Robert F Kennedy's assassination
  • What Trump Can Teach Us About Con Law - a series that uses recent Trump news as a jumping off point to teach constitutional law, hosted by constitutional law professor Elizabeth Joh and the guy that does 99% Invisible (another good podcast but less political)

Final primary: Louisiana, November 6th
THEN THE ULTIMATE HELLCYCLE BEGINS

Also I was working on an OT in case y'all screwed it up. Here's what I had:

The game begins as three boys from the small Manhattan village disobey their Elder's instructions and trespass into a local Russia, where a kompromorat is said to be kept. One of the boys stumbles and falls into the hotel room, where he finds a kompromorat embedded in a stone. Guided by a twitter voice, he pulls the kompromorat free, inadvertently unleashing the alt-right in the surrounding countryside of the village. The villagers interpret the kompromorat's removal as a bad omen and banish Hillary Clinton from the White House forever.[15] A traveling knight named Robert Mueller III recognizes the kompromorat as the legendary Obstruction of Justice and encourages the tangerine to re-energize it by visiting the eight Violations of the US Code.[16]

During his journey, the tangerine is joined by the Paul Manafort and the Santa Monica Fascist. Throughout their travels, the trio is pursued by the Deep State. The Emperor of the Deep State and his subordinates are being manipulated by (((Soros))), an ancient sorcerer who hopes to create a "new, peaceful world".[17] Due to the deteroriation of the neoliberal establishment, (((Soros))) is in need of a suitable candidate to possess. After placing the entire kingdom of Mainstream Media under a trance, he abducts two candidates: Doug Jones, now enslaved, and a young New York woman named Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; he eventually chooses to possess Doug Jones.[18]

The Deep State succeeds in convicting on eight of the Violations of the US Code. However, Paul Manafort betrays the tangerine and his henchmen, selling all that he knows to the Deep State. Now the tangerine stands alone with the Santa Monica Fascist against the nefarious forces of (((Soros))).

I wonder how long it takes Trump to tweet about Manafort. You know it's eating him up.

Do we have any stats on how quickly each OT has gotten to 20k?

We should get a ranking going.

She's a Democrat in Missouri and has been pretty progressive despite her constituency.

If you mean "socialist" as in "I want to seize the means of production," then hell no she isn't, and neither are most of the people in America who use the word to mean social democracy. But she, like the rest of the Democratic Party, supports social democracy - increased taxation on the rich to fund safety nets.

But let's stop being cute. You really mean that she didn't kiss a certain ring.

She took a lie detector and passed and there are notes from her therapist detailing the incident in 2012.

2017 OT1 - 10/25/2017 to 11/21/2017 - 27 days
2017 OT2 - 11/21/2017 to 12/19/2017 - 28 days
2017 OT3 - 12/19/2017 to 1/21/2018 - 33 days
2018 OT1 - 1/21/2018 to 2/18/2018 - 28 days
2018 OT2 - 2/18/2018 to 3/16/2018 - 26 days
2018 OT3 - 3/16/2018 to 4/14/2018 - 29 days
2018 OT4 - 4/14/2018 to 5/25/2018 - 41 days
2018 OT5 - 5/25/2018 to 6/25/2018 - 31 days
2018 OT6 - 6/25/2018 to 7/23/2018 - 28 days
2018 OT7 - 7/23/2018 to 8/22/2018 - 30 days
2018 OT8 - 8/22/2018 to 9/16/2018 - 25 days

So 2018 OT8 and 2018 OT2 were the two fastest-moving
2017 OT3 and by far 2018 OT4 were the slowest moving. 2017 OT3 makes sense due to Christmas/New Year's, curious what was going on in late spring that let it run so long.

Brave woman.

I can't wait for sexist pieces of shit to start trying to destroy her.

She engaged Debra Katz, a Washington lawyer known for her work on sexual harassment cases. On the advice of Katz, who believed Ford would be attacked as a liar if she came forward, Ford took a polygraph test administered by a former FBI agent in early August. The results, which Katz provided to The Post, concluded that Ford was being truthful when she said a statement summarizing her allegations was accurate.

This lady is going to be thrown into the meat grinder when she didn't want to involve herself in this. Feel really bad for her but she is choosing to confront it now so best of luck to her. :(

She is a hero. Her story and her coming forward publicly will encourage others to come forward. I assume this wasn't a one off occurance.

Usually there's a pattern of behavior. She may not be the only one.

Also — this gives permission for none of the red state Dems to vote for him.

Yep. If this story withstands the scrutiny and GOP Senators choose to vote him in before the midterms can we expect a bit of a backlash against GOP Senators? Enough to propel Dems into control of the Senate? God forbid if more women come out and the GOP still pushes him through.
