Surfinn is right. If you believe Ms. Tyson's account, which I think everyone here does, you really can't buy Fairfax's claim about confusion. Someone sobbing while you hold her head down is pretty much the antithesis of consent. If he was ~~~confused~~~ about that, he's either a sociopath, a moron who shouldn't be in office anyway, or, most likely, a liar.
Was just about to post in full agreement with Surfinn but then I saw your post and fuck it I'll just agree with this. Surfinn , thank you for your posts on this and in other threads throughout this forum. You are a such a strong ally of women that I was actually surprised when I looked at your profile and saw you're a guy. Wish there were a lot more men like you out there.

This is the correct response.

Kamala it is.

Thanks for this, I appreciate it. Sexism/justice for sexual assault/harassment victims are two issues I'm very passionate about and it gets me into heated discussions pretty frequently.

I never presented consent as an option. I presented the options that Fairfax is lying or that he's a moron who doesn't understand how consent works.
My entirely argument was that he is lying. There is no one in his position of power who is ignorant to consent. They know, they just don't fucking care.

If you were presenting an argument that he was lying and actually knew he didn't have consent (according to her account), we never would have had this discussion.

My entire argument was that he was either lying or is a dumb man who thought he was getting consent because he never heard no even though that's not consent.

Not to speak for Kaitos, but I think they are arguing that some dudes think that you need an ACTUAL VERBAL "NO" for consent to be revoked even if the person in question is clearly physically resistant because some dudes are a goddam mess.

And yes, I have had to jump in and correct a few dudes that I have conversed with on this.

Yikes, Northam’s an ignorant racist cunt but I’d frankly like the Lt. Gov to resign over him if only one goes because yeesh. Disgusting prick.

Or both, I guess.

I don't think this dog actually hunts, either.

Crying and resisting is pretty much a universal sign of "I don't want to PLEASE NO." I don't think there's anyone who can't read that non-verbal cue. That's almost a fallacious argument to make.

He is a fucking former prosecutor who used to take on cases dealing with sexual assault

This photo illlustrates how overwhelming the chaos is right now at Virginia’s Capitol. St. Sen. Louise Lucas taking a moment as reporters surround her looking for comment on the latest disclosure that AG Herring wore blackface once in college @nbcwashington

I actually didn't know this.

Sorry, I was merely trying to explain that some men -- incorrectly -- think that you need a verbal no to express consent. I didn't realize he had a history of prosecuting sexual assault cases. I take back what I said then.

I know everything sucks right now but I will admit I laughed when I read the thread and saw the AG’s letter

Of fucking course he wore blackface, what else can go wrong

It's like the 2nd sentence in his statement he released in response to the allegation.

So now we are left with:

He's a fucking liar who knew what he was doing and didn't care.

Uh huh, and he's still a dude who bought into that "focus on yourself, don't bother paying attention to your sexual partner" tip that is part of our cultural fabric.

But I don't think this is even worth arguing about because either way, he's a sociopath who needs to step down.

I didn't actually read the first paragraph on his background because I didn't think it was particularly relevant to the event in question. Which I now see I should have done.

He knew exactly what he was doing.

There are no men without abnormal mental issues who think that forcing someone against their will (while sobbing and trying to get away) to perform sex acts on them is permission.

It's time to stop making excuses for them.

So what now? Keep blackface dude and depress 2019 turnout, or allow VA to become the next NC?
I mean, I have to think if we stumbled into a GOP governor and they started going full NC, the voters would correct that mistake in... nine months.

And we're going to have the new, favorable maps regardless.

No.

This take fails to understand the sheer amount of societal and cultural history that makes men think it's cool to basically ignore their sexual partners body language in the first place. I wouldn't be shocked if dude never bothered to even look at her as he did what he did because he had no concept of her well-being as a person or sexual partner at that point.

So nah, I am not going to say that you have it all figured out. This is not to say that you aren't right in Fairfax's case, but you have a limited understanding of just what dudes learn about the importance of not using their sexual partners like a blow-up doll.

Damn all this Virginia news is disappointing, didn't that state just shift blue? Seems like their doing there best to waste all that progress and get wiped next election

How about you fucking read my posts before you jump in.

And I'm sorry, when did I say anything about societal and cultural history not being a factor in the way men treat women? Did I ever dismiss this? Was it even brought into the conversation?

What the fuck are you talking about?

I meant permission in that they have permission from the person they're involved with that it's OK. Not permission to actually do it regardless of what the other person things. Socially and culturally, men just assumed they could do whatever they wanted and didn't give a shit what women thought. This outlook still exists.

So I don't know what you're on about.

TBF, what Northam did is worse (Med School vs. High School and the later wasn't with a KKK dude) and Northam's response was WAY worse ("I did it oh wait just kidding!"). I think its fair for Northam to resign and Herring not to. But did Herring just remember he did blackface after he made that call? Or is a photo about to come out?

He called on Northam to step down though.

So...
You're right he did, just realistically of three, I don't see him stepping down. I don't see a scenario democratic office holders in Virginia let the Governor spot fall to a Republican.

With that said, I can appreciate his letter over what's going on for the other two. As far as at least acknowledging being a former(or current who knows) piece of shit, was better than others I've seen.
