Just general anti-intellectualism. Or "alternate" intellectualism. It's why all those rationalist white supremacists also love phrenology and talk about imaginary nutritional and energy science all the time.
Yeah. Same impulse as all those weird alternative investment/gold scams you see on the right, too. It's been a while since I read Rick Perlstein's Before the Storm, but IIRC, even in the sixties there was tons of stuff like this in Richard Viguerie's direct mailers, which is where modern conservatism descends from as much as anywhere.

I missed this gem:

---

Possibly unanswerable question: Do anti-vaxxers think getting a vaccine can give you autism no matter what the age? Was pondering this hearing about unvaccinated teenagers who want to defy their parents.

I'm sick of this climate change fight.

Your choices are now
A) Painful economic changes and social changes but we survive.
B) Death of our society and perhaps species. Which also means are economy is dead.

Pick one.

Money will always win, meaning that human society will be forever altered for the worse given the greed of less than about 3000 people.

B.

People will never take the immediate economic hit. Same with single payer. Median tax burden where I'm from is somewhere north of 40%, and that's after employee SS taxes. It needs to be incremental or people will riot.

Can someone explain the appeal of being anti-vaccine? Is there some hidden ulterior motive that i'm missing? Because it's almost always conservative people and republicans seem to be encouraging the behavior.

My experience has been the opposite, where I've seen nutjobs that buy crystals on Etsy trying to get my state (Mississippi) to relax our vax laws (we're the first state I believe to not allow any personal exemption from vaccinations, one of the few good stats about MS lol). In general, conservatives here aren't as anti-science (or at least, anti-medicine) as you'd think though because of how rural we are and our strong community college system, which ultimately means one of the most common jobs in any given town in MS is being a registered nurse at a local clinic (being an RN only needs an Associate's degree, and the pay is really good for MS).

What is even the point of talking to people if they admit the video they are discussing is doctored and literally edited in a project veritas manner and continue to use it as some proof?

ERA is a fucking mess, we're at a point where a small group of people are literally disregarding facts just to create their own ridiculous narrative and constantly shitting up any type of thread that is about Democrats.

And the worst part is people see these political interactions and think this is some type of microcosm of the political landscape at large, when in reality it's a feud between a couple of socialists and people who are democrats.

It's a fucking joke.

Shimon Prokupecz @ShimonPro

Note the line from the special counsels office about the "executive branch."

"His deceit, which is a fundamental component of the crimes of conviction and relevant conduct, extended to...members of the executive branch of the United States government."

LOL at his redacting the Senator's name but then copypasting a speech verbatim from the Congressional Record.

That one should be easy to decode.

Durbin.

https://www.durbin.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/durbin-statement-on-crisis-in-ukraine

It's odd that they redacted this. It's Durbin's speech (which is available online) and the other senators under the second redaction were the co-sponsors: James Inhofe, Barbara Boxer, Bob Casey, and Bob Menendez.

Yep. He was making a speech demanding the release of Yulia Tyshomenko, the former Ukrainian prime minister who at that time had been jailed. She later became the opposition leader and ran in the 2014 election, when Manafort and co. mounted a campaign to smear her. People here have said that their tactics against her were a dress rehearsal for the campaign against Hillary.

It's conspiracy theory stuff. The rabbit hole is deep. If you want more I would only suggest to google it. Just don't believe the lies.

I forgot about her running again in 2014. Good point. So this is likely just a bit of background/contextual evidence re: Manafort's crimes.

Fun fact: guy currently polling first in Ukraine for the election is an actor who played the president on TV.

Yeah.

I wish the media was as adamant at calling out the economic illiteracy of dudes like Ted Cruz for supporting shit like returning to the gold standard. It seriously doesn't get any dumber than that

One thing I found notable: Prosecutors point out in their conclusion that Manafort's sentences in EDVA (guidelines range 235 to 293 months) and in DC (210 to 262 mos) could run consecutively, and they preserve the right to argue for it. Over 46 years in prison still on the table. pic.twitter.com/EyJLv5iFCa

Renato Mariotti @renato_mariotti

3/ Mueller suggested to the judge that she has the power to order that her sentence runs consecutive to the sentence Manafort receives in the Virginia case. There's no serious question that he will receive a lengthy sentence and could die in prison.

One of These Women Could Be Our Next President

hZ0HYO6.png

We asked these presidential hopefuls about their plans and policies, but what surprised us the most was when we asked them what questions they are asked that a man running for the highest office would never face. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is tired of the doubters who wonder whether a woman could win. "I've never heard anyone ask, 'Can a man win?'" she says. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), an Iraq War veteran, gets: "Are you tough enough? Can you handle the heat?" Please. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) is asked how she manages to campaign and parent at the same time. "I have one daughter, and I've been asked that about a hundred times," she says. "All parents balance things, but dads don't always get asked that." Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) is grilled, too, about how she balances family and work. "The truth is," she says, "women have been working since the beginning of time, and we do it well. We can balance our family needs and the work we need to do." Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) says she likes to turn the tables when people only ask her about so-called women's issues: "My response is usually 'I am so glad you would like to talk about women's issues, so let's talk about the economy.'"

Talk they will; the presidential primary debates begin in June. And when these women—a veteran, a former college professor, two ex-prosecutors, and several mothers—take the stage, we'll be looking at the most representative and diverse candidate pool in history, one that reflects America's population more accurately than ever before. It's momentous, it's exhilarating, and it's about time.

It looks like Durbin's resolution was shown to Yanukovich and they worked with GOP leadership to squash it.

It's a fucking joke.

People are operating from a post hoc position that everyone outside of their circle of political cronies is operating out of sheer bad faith/greed/capitalism/immorality, and if they fell for bad info, it's because their opponents are already bad enough people that it would not be surprising to think the worst of them.

They refuse to believe that people think their ideas are stupid, might have other ideas about how to achieve the same goals, or might just be genuinely ignorant or accidentally screwed up on something.

Durbin a Russian stooge?

No, it was likely his resolution that Manafort was lobbying against.
