Klobuchar is a complete non-starter anyway for her total wuss "I wouldn't have killed the voting requirements for the judiciary and I wouldn't want to kill the filibuster in general" bullshit stance.

If you're not willing to kill the filibuster to shove a bunch of important shit through in the two years that you have (ideally) the executive and both branches of Congress, get the fuck outta here.

It really is Kamala who is going to win this thing unless Biden can play spoiler. She's the only one running who seems to have some concept of where the party is going and what it wants.

NBC News: Lawmakers reach deal to avert shutdown with fence funding but no money for border wall
The White House didn't comment on the agreement and Trump said at the rally, "We probably have some good news but who knows."
The details of the deal, according to multiple sources, were as follows:
  • $1.375 billion for border barrier enhancements like steel slats and other "existing technologies," but no concrete wall
  • The money would fund about 55 miles of new barrier
  • Geographic restrictions on where the new fencing could built, likely limited to the Rio Grand Valley sector of the border
  • DHS would receive $1.7 billion in new funding for border security that could include technology at ports of entry, additional customs officers and humanitarian aid
  • No cap on the number of beds for enforcing immigration laws in the country's interior
  • Funding for approximately 40,520 detention beds for detained immigrants
Top Democratic negotiators Rep. Nita Lowey of New York and Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont met behind closed doors with their Republican counterparts, Rep. Kay Granger of Texas and Shelby.

Trump is avoiding hearing about the deal in order to say on television he doesn't know anything about the deal. Okie dokie. What I don't get is why he drew attention to the fact twice tonight. Dementia? Pre-emptively showing contempt?

The Daily Show gave Klobuchar staffing more attention than Maddow did, and showed she gave the same exact rehearsed answer yesterday to George Stephanapolous.
I think I'll take an obviously canned whatever response to scandals this cycle vs last time where Hillary, after two years, seemed completely bewildered and unprepared every time she was asked about it. Like still blows my mind how they just seemed completely uninterested in coming up with anything

Coverage in 2020 isn't going to be any better than it was in 2016.
probably also ain't gonna help if people go into circular firing squads over dumb shit on social media again, like how a now Facebook ex-friend just called Harris "black Hillary" because she went on the Breakfast Club and said she inhaled about a minute after explicitly calling for legalization

Mark Meadows @RepMarkMeadows

This conference agreement is hardly a serious attempt to secure our border or stop the flow of illegal immigration. It kicks the can down the road yet again, failing to address the critical priorities outlined by Border Patrol Chiefs.

Congress is not doing its job.

Bob Moore @BobMooreNews

El Paso County Coliseum officials tell me about 6,000 people watched the @realDonaldTrump rally on screens outside, on top of the 7,000 inside. So total of about 13,000.

God I hope there was a bunch of NM license plates on the South Side tonight cause that's a depressingly large number.

That shit is definitely going to happen again.

(I have very little actual hope for the future.)

I think what her angle might be here is that almost everyone else is running on the "how do you do fellow socialists" platform to the point where they are going to drown each other out. If Biden doesn't run I don't think there's really anyone who is taking the "yes I'm the moderate, let's all work together and shake hands", but yeah gunning for like second at best seems sort of like a weird strategy. I guess maybe Booker is doing that too but I can't tell if he's intentionally doing that or if he's really actually trying to move left just doing it badly

It seems kind of notable that he's doing what's ostensibly a campaign rally in Texas.

I'm seeing some talk of "can Beto flip as Senator/Prez candidate" while just THREATENING the lone GOP EV Battery is enough of a win, really.

Yeah, they're really gonna try to push the "infanticide, late term abortion, and post-birth abortion" message all of 2020. Especially after VA and NYC.

Its the pair-of-fours that they've been dealt now. ALL IN.

Will the voters learn the lesson here? Signs point to no.

Voters (relatively) rebeled against shit-head ignoring of referendums recently and state-level GOP fuckery in general and they have a Dem congresscritter for now. We'll see.

fun fact - if the Democratic nominee in 2020 flipped Texas (and every state closer than it came along), the biggest state the GOP would win would be Indiana

Bernie still hasn't officially announced either

Tbh I have no idea what'll happen if he doesn't actually go through with it. I think it shakes things up a bit more than Biden not running

Beto's running for the VP spot at this point if he does jump in.

The question is whether having Beto in the race helps Bernie by splitting the "normal" Democratic vote or hurts him by stealing away young voters. Nobody actually seems very excited about having a moderate though.

— Maddow has always clearly been kind and friendly to Klobuchar. She's the only reason any of us actually know who she is to begin with. No excuse for Rach not to go hard, though.

— I think her instinct to wait out the controversy around her staff abuse is the correct one, if not the one we want. It just doesn't move the needle against her like it would for others because her image has been so pristine and friendly.

— all that said, right now her main play is VP to soften up a Biden or Bernie or Sherrod run. If Warren, Gillibrand, or Harris advances, she's out.

Yeah, his complaint is the same as mine - all these people getting (deservingly) called out for their shit, meanwhile the guy in the fucking White Hose is rarely to never taken to task for his shit, at least not on the same level of all these people who don't have a fraction of his power.

Are...are we not supposed to hold people to standards because one shit bag refuses to adhere to them?

We're supposed to hold everybody to standards or nobody. The current behavior is that "responsible" politicians get hounded for days if they misspeak but Republicans can be overt Nazis and it's not news because that's just how they are.

I want to be mad about the stupid compromise deal that seems to get nothing for the Democrats, but

Hannity is shitting on the deal, as are other Republicans

Once President Coulter comes out against it this deal is as good as dead anyway

Right, which is my point. Republicans have no standards, and can get away with anything because they've successfully demonized democrats so throughly that their base would rather vote for a child rapist than a democrat, because the democrat is the greater evil. Just because people let trump get away with everything doesn't mean we get to get away with everything. Trump bragged about being able to kill someone on 5th avenue and still win, and he still won. Hillary called racists deplorable, and they never let that one go.

What...is your point?

The media has fundamentally abdicated their role in our democracy by choosing to ignore and normalize great evil. Thats the point.

I guess my point is that I understand what's going on, and most people just want to whine about how they can't get away with things other people do. Oh well.

Gary O'Donoghue @BBCBlindGazza

This is the shameful moment when my cameraman Ron Skeans was attacked by @realdDonaldTrump supporter in El Paso - after the President repeatedly goaded the crowd over supposed media bias. Happily Ron is fine #TrumpElPaso

Trump's racist or stupid comments are noted.

His base doesn't care though, so there's nothing to sustain a story.

Instead the story ends up being the bajillionth piece on how Trump voters are unwavering.
