ZzzzzzZzzzZzz...
For some time I'd been thinking that Beto had missed his chance to announce with max hype, but the ludicrous social and media reactions alike today have shown me the thirst is still
extremely real.

I actually managed to stay away from my PC for a few hours this evening, then came back and saw the THQ 8chan thread bumped and, oh. Sigh. Can we Seal Team Six their server host's building or something? Apparently the doxxing, swatting, revenge porn, baiting people to kill themselves, child porn, ISIS recruitment, and other horrors of humanity weren't enough to get people to pay attention, but maybe this will.

I dont know a guy saying 'sub to pie' before doing fps video of murder seems pretty shut and dry to me as to what circles he ran in. People using those examples as 'watch out it may be fake!' are fairly clueless.
Mess it up? How? Making a distinction between "trolling" and sincerity is meaningless. He was influenced by these people, full stop. He mentions PDP right before fucking killing people, it doesn't get more open and shut than that.

They're talking about the manifesto. If you read it it's pretty clear a lot of it is trolling and needs to be read carefully. For example, he states Candace Owens, a black woman, is who radicalized him, but that she was too extreme for him. He also wrote a very trolly answer about video games. There is a good chance the intent of the manifesto was to embarrass journalists who are not familiar with internet memes/trolling.

So the lesson is what, we dismiss any possible intent?

No. It's very clear the guy is a nazi. There's evidence of that everywhere. However, we also know he's a member of 8chan, which a community that the mainstream media knows little to nothing about. So they need to take care with their reporting so they can view everything with the right amount of scrutiny. As this guy says:

Also this guy

So.Cal.
Wilbur Ross should not be in any position of power, he has no idea what the fuck is going on.
Seriously! All these old fuckers!

Because it's not even that she did or said anything special. It's that these guys have NO business leading this country! Listen to Ross, he sounds like an old man in a nursing home that was just woken up by the nurse to take his pills. I AM NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING. Then there's fucking Mark Meadows trying suck up to this administration by basically saying "I'm a fucking idiot and I don't know anything". Seriously, does his think that pointing out his own ignorance helps his cause whatsoever? This is what we're up against, and this is why they are frightened by her, because she's young, vibrant and honestly seems to care more about this stuff than they do.

I've seen this in companies - people who run it like shit because they don't care because it makes no difference to them personally to improve things. And even if they cared, they're too old and tired to want to go through that whole process.

He was a channer so he was probably a pedophile along with being a white supremacist.

Not sure we need to pour over a manifesto about what is already obvious from his choice of websites.

Republicans are no doubt thrilled over the terrorist attacks in Christchurch. Not only because Muslims were murdered for existing, but because this gives them something to point to and say, "SEE? Gun control doesn't work. Look at New Zealand!" even though that's New Zealand's 2 simultaneous mass shootings to the US's 387265zillion and we could drastically reduce these numbers with gun control but no one cares about statistics.

Fuckers.

I think he's just trying to fuck with the process as much as possible. He's trying to be extremely annoying and be a persistent nitpicker in order to distract, obfuscate, and deflect. It's [partially] an act.

"It's thick with irony and meta text"

...

It is. He puts the stupid Navy Seal copypasta in there at one point.

Most of it is straightforward but you can tell that he knew he would be confusing people who aren't Extremely Online with some of the things he included.

I do think one thing the right wing will latch onto is his claim to have been a communist as a youth and China being his favorite country.

Beyond depressing.

YT, FB, Twitter and the chans are breeding sites for these kind of people. The chans won't change, but the other three need to step up, and start banning these groups.

Governments have gotten pretty good about shutting down websites where terrorists congregate, and they've certainly taken direct action against "radical clerics" who practice stochastic terrorism by distributing videos intended to inspire attacks.

At this point, we need to take the threat posed by white supremacists and other dead-enders every bit as seriously. Shut down their websites altogether, prosecute incitement, and generally make it difficult for these bastards to operate. We've allowed them to congregate in plain sight for years, and they're no longer afraid; this isn't skinheads meeting in somebody's basement and distributing leaflets anymore.

Officials in NZ say that none of the suspects were on any watch lists, which should be a shock to absolutely on one.

You know, I'd be curious to get info from US intel officials on these things. The official government line for over a decade has been that right-wing terrorism is a greater threat than radical islam, but how much infrastructure exists to back up the concern? That vs things like the databases on air travel and immigration, etc.

Too many people concerned with the idea that there's a meaningful distinction between ironic shitposting in the manifesto and being able to identify them because you're 'extremely online.' It's cold comfort to talk to a victimized group genuinely concerned about the issue and say 'no don't worry the shooter was just joking talking about x, y, z.' People need to realize the ironic meme shit doesn't actually translate outside of the internet most of the times and whatever narrative angry people online want to spin about some parts that might be taken as ironic never plays out to the significantly larger portion of the world that doesn't actually frequent twitter or other social media. The obvious shit like Spyro will get dropped over Pewdiepie and Owens specifically because the lines of comparison on rhetoric exist in one form or another. Getting mad about regular media not cutting irony the right way helps no one and misses the point that a person who just killed nearly 50 people will be given 0 benefit of the doubt if he attributes the actions to someone or something.

Pretty much.

That clip was damning and put on full display that both Ross and Meadows are either louts that know nothing of the responsibilities and weight of their positions, or are devious in their rebuttal of arguing complete ineptitude the moment they are called out for attempting to betray the norms and standards to protect the rule of law and the people they serve.

Fuckers.
More key I feel is that an Australian went to a country with much more relaxed gun control to carry this out.

The people peddling this evil will continue with disingenuous bullshit no matter what. This guy will become a new legend and meme in the online spaces he radicalized in.

People will still say the democrats were wrong to also condemn Islamophobia.

@NatashaBertrand
New: Mueller may not be done with Manafort yet. Court documents and pre-sentence hearings that dealt with the breach of his plea deal suggest that prosecutors might have more ammunition to go after him on matters that go "to the heart" of the Russia probe. Mueller Might Not Be Done With Manafort Over Kilimnik Ties - The Atlantic …

For example: The August 2, 2016 meeting, where Manafort gave polling data to Kilimnik, was only revealed by accident. "The fact that...it was only revealed inadvertently, reinforces the idea that Mueller is saving it for something else," says @Mimirocah1. https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...t-be-done-manafort-over-kilimnik-ties/584995/

Just reading some of the tweets defending PewDiePie on Twitter, and predictably there are a number of right-wing types claiming he had nothing to do with it and that only the person who did it is responsible. The "logic" of right-wingers on this is just so transparent that it is infuriating that anyone gives it the time of day. When a radical Islamic individual attacks and kills people, those on the right blame an entire religion and culture for it and there are calls for prominent Muslim figures to "DO SOMETHING!!!" When it is a white supremacist who murders a bunch of people, those on the right say "Terrible tragedy, but you can only blame the person who did it." They act as if the motivations are entirely inexplicable and outside influences do not exist.
